First, my wife and I watch Big Love, it does present a charecature of the Church, but then what do you expect from its creators being 2 former members who also happen to be gay. Having said that, we do enjoy the show (although the current season has turned dark IMHO), but like the poster above said its like saying that 90210 accuratly portrays life in America. I wouldn't worry about getting the missionaries over, invite her to activities, bring her to chuch, when she's ready for the missionaries, she'll ask.

Thats the elusive red and black banded snow snake, you realize its a federal crime to kill those as they are an extremly rare form of snake only active during the long cold nights of February. In fact I am forwarding your post to the Federal Department of Fish, Game and Wildlife who will no doubt have your home declared a protected environment and force you to move out until such time as the snake decides to leave on its own (if ever) please don't forget to pay your mortgage and the gas and electric bills during this period as you are required to maintain its current habitat. Also tossing in a couple of white rats every week would be a nice gesture on your part.

What to do when you question a book of scripture?
mnn727 replied to GreatFamily's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Sorry, but I have to ask: Did you have a testimony of the Gospel? or a testamony of the history of the Church? Anytime you have humans involved in anything, you'll have a mess. I think the main problem many people have with the history of the Church is that they beleive Prophets and Apostles should be perfect and they are not perfect, they make mistakes, they have opinions, at times they extrapolate things they should not, and they are not God's ventriliquest dummies. This was true in Biblical times and its still true today. something to think about -
A dog (pure mutt) and 3 cats - had 4 but my favorite died 3 days after Christmas, came home from work and he was stiff on the dining room floor -- unknown causes, I couldn't see spending $300 to try to find out, so we'll never know - he was only 7.

Also, have you been to your local LDS employment office? they can help you polish your resume, they can do practice interviews and help you with your interviewing skills. You said you transfer a lot, that doesn't look good on a resume, who wants to hire someone only to have them leave in a few years? Perhaps trying to target national or regional chains would be better for you. (Pep Boys, AAMCO, Midas, etc) it would show a longer history with 1 company and you no doubt could transfer with the company rather than looking for a new job after each move. I agree with Morningstar - get a blessing -- if nothing else it should give you comfort And if it helps, I started an entirly new career at age 42 (after being in the same industry for 26 years)-- been in it 11 years now and I love it, I could never image doing now what I used to do.

SO, just believing it makes it true? Well I believe he was in the Americas, so it must be trueAll kidding aside: all religion/belief is by Faith, there is no proof Christ existed at all outside of religous texts, even though both the Jews and the Romans were historically very good at record keeping. Even Josephus, whom many people will say proves Christ existed was accoriding to historians only 2 or 3 years old at the time of Christ's crucifiction, so his witness is even a 2nd hand witness.
-
OK, so I am trying to find out what signs you would accept that Christ came to the America's so the easiest way to find out would be to ask you what signs you accept that says Christ was in the Middle east when the Bible says He was?
-
What kinds of signs would you accept? Do you believe Christ was in the middle east during Biblical times?

Evidence enough to convince meMoroni 10: 3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things...and ponder it in your hearts. 4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will fmanifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

What to do when you question a book of scripture?

You must have missed the smilie. Seriously though, not everything has been revealed, this is one of them. If you really want to understand here and now, then go to God in prayer, cause any answers here on THIS subject is just speculation. And I understand the RCC's Divine Mysteries -- at least they admit there are some things we just don't know yet, rather than trying to come up with an answer for everything and ending up with the philosopies of men mingled with scripture. -
why do anything? for gosh sakes do not try to reason with him

Anything we say on this is just speculation - there is no understanding it completly this side of the grave as a complete understanding has not yet been revealed. Now go do your home teaching -

Why are we worrying about "what may be" when we don't even accomplish "what should be" Got your Home/Visit Teaching done? Hows your scripture study coming? Saying your personal and family prayers daily? FHE every week? Attend all your meetings? Attend the Temple regularily? No body here is ready for their own planet/universe so while its interesting speculating, lets take care of the basics so one day God can teach us what we need to do to get to the next level. -
Thats the classic definition, however I would challange you to ask 5 members of your congregation and see what they come up with on their own. Or what I did, I was on a Christian (non-LDS) message board frequented by people of many faiths and I asked them to define the "Trinity" Out of about 30 replies, not one was a duplicate. Its a confusing concept for most people.

Just because they lived before us, does not mean they were stupid. I bet even a caveman would know the difference, let alone someone God was teaching.----- To answer the OP's question, we know a little about Kolob and a little about what it means 'to inherit all things' -- everything else is speculation. I have never sat in any class that that taught anything about 'getting our own planet' and I've been in the church longer that you stated you were in the opening post. Most Mormons figure that when they are ready God will teach them what is necessary -- and for the advanced stuff for most of us thats not in this life. Learn of Christ, Follow Christ, try to emulate what He did, life your life the best you can, be good, serve others, when you are ready to learn more God will teach you. -

SO GreatFamily, you ever going to comment or answer the questions we asked? or were you just a drive by? -
EasyThe Father is God The Son is God The Holy Ghost is God Thus there are 3 beings that are called God Yet they are united as one in purpose and divinty Frankly, to me, its all semantics. As humans we are never going to be able to make God fit into our little labled boxes, so why do so many people try?
-
The problem is that if you ask 10 non-LDS Christians for a defination of Trinity you will get at least 4 or 5 different definations (even within the same denomination)

You don't have doubts about any other book of scripture? my gosh, I do all the time, but scripture is not inerrant, it was not written or even dictated by God, it was written by men, good inspired men hopefully, but they brought their own: culture, beliefs, prejudices and world view into their writtings. The trick is to not sweat the small stuff, but look to what you can learn from scripture that will bring you closer to God and don't worry whether its 100% historically or scientifically accurate. -
Was extremly cold here (for Texas) Sunday; 28F for a low and only 36F for a high - we were in the 70's the previous week
