Is it tacky to bring your own snacks to the movie theater?

Can't you go 2 hours without a snack? -
16 years ago I was living in Wisconsin and in January went to visit friends that had just moved to Orlando, FL that year. After a week there of 70 degree weather, visitng theme parks, going to the beach, etc I fly home. its 78 degree's when I get on the plane in FL and -30 (thats minus 30) when I get off of it. I called up a realtor friend of mine and put the house up for sale that week (although the house didn;t sell til summer). Lived in FL for 7 years then my career brought me to Texas - where winters, while much better than Wisconsin, are still chilly - going down to 28 tonight and I've lost all my tolerance for cold. 28 feels like -30 to me after 16 years in the south. Oh and according to the old timers, it does snow in Orlando about once every 30 years - of course its gone the next day. Orlando is the only place I know that when it gets cold people wear shorts and a jacket.

"Right to Work" state = "Right to get fired for no reason at all" state

File for unemployement today. If your boss has a boss, talk with them and tell them what happened. Otherwise call the state labor board and/or an attorney.

There are service dogs who are trined to detect seizures in their 'people' before they happen, perhaps on some unconcience level you were doing that.

Hmm, totally non-scriptorial and not an LDS belief.

I agree, due to mankinds Agency which is paramont to Gods plan, he is not really (nor should He be) a "hands-on" God. Without agency, there would be no reason for this earthly existance.

'Rain Man' has been a missionary his whole life

The Church has stated that those unaccountable do not need to be baptised - no matter what their actual age is. We had a man in the ward I was baptised into that functioned at about a 5 year olds level, the Church stated since he is not accountable and never would be there was no need for access. -

Then perhaps they should promote the story, cause I ain't seeing any movie just for special effects. and frankly what's been said about the story on this thread isn't motivating me either.

From the commercials the movie has appeared to me to be just a vehicle for showcasing special effect's -- and the commercials have not intetrested me in the least. If there really is a story, perhaps they should advertise what it is, it might generate more interest than just the male 15-35 demographic. Just watched the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" last night on DVD: a very poor imitation of the original and while I am both a "tree hugger type" and a SciFi fan myself I really think message movies are lame and this was one of the biggest message movies of the last decade.

Wonderful -- NOT!I think I'll take one calling at a time
-
OK, just thought I'd give an update. I was sustained Sunday - nobody opposing, I was there for the meetings before Church and after Church and spent a total of 10 hours at Church or doing Church work, once I get organized and know what I am doing it'll drop down to about 6 hours I think For all you complaining about 3 hours of meetings - you could have it worse. One thing I had to do was get someones new phone number for the directory and he was a bit skiddesh when I walked up to him after Sacrament meeting (after being called and sustained) hopefully that won't become normal. Spent a lot of time with the outgoing exec secretary, getting filled in on things and asking questions, oh and the Bishop is out of town next week, so had to do 2 weeks worth of planning, but we will only have 1 short meeting next Sunday

I guess most days don't start in my family

I'll straighten it out every morning, but to actually make it? once a week is fine

The question is: Do you consider that income? I don't think I would, but then I don't have an HSA - I always thought those were use it or lose it. My thought is like yours, I don't pay tithing on the companies share of health costs, or SS or medicare, etc. Now if I left the company and took the money out - then yes to me it would be income. I don't think the Lord is too worried about technicalites, else He would have been more specific. make a decision you're comfortable with as to whether its income or not and then don't worry about it.

They would not hand a child an envelope for you. I am sure they must have had a lesson on tithing. Seriously, if you are scrambling for food, then you need to make an appointment with the Bishop, there is help available. Talk to your Ward Exec Secretary to make an appointment and if you don't know who that is, just ask someone (member of the Bishopric, Releif Society President, etc) There are blessings received from Tithing but not all are temporal blessings for the here and now, it may be that the Bishop will ask you to pay tithing and then will help you out with food or bills - that is what our fast offerings go towards, heping the needy and most people I know have had to have help from time to time, just lay out to the Bishop what your financial situation is.
-
You're right, if he stuck around a bit it would be more conveinant to make appointments and that is my plan. We also have an email for the exec sec that is published in the bulliten every week - they got g-mail accounts for the Bishop, clerk and secretary -- not sure how much its used currently, but that may be an idea for many wards.

A couple of thoughts:Perhaps he's diabetic or has some other medical condition and needs to regulate his blood sugar -- my wife is and if she doesn't keep regular eating times, her blood sugar gets out of wack. Also, shouldn't you know at least a week ahead of time if you need to talk to the Bishop? I really can't think of something that would be so big of an emergency that you either: 1.) didn't know it was coming up or 2.) couldn't wait a week unless somebody died, or you found out about a serious sin that would have effect on one or more ward members -- and in either of those cases I bet you could be worked in that day.
-
Our last one did. In fact after my meeting with the Stake to get the calling, in sacrament meeting one of the speakers said "When Bro so and so (currect Exec Sec) called about the talk..." and my wife just smiles at me, she knows how much I dislike calling people to ask them to do things (which I told them before I accepted) guess I'll get over that.
-
I'm going to try, the Bishop made sure that I knew this call was from the Lord and whether fortunatly or unfortunatly, I got what I take as a very firm confirmation from the Lord also -- I don't know why, I guess the Lord has a sense of humor or really wants to teach me something, cause I feel very inadequate rght now -- and I know he makes weak things strong and qualifies who he calls, -- but boy do I feel inadequate right now.But on the bright side I've always wanted learn how to be more organized and now I'll have to.
