  1. As part of an EQ lesson, I researched that verse quite a bit and while I was very careful to state that this was my opinion and no one had to believe it, I gave pretty good proof that it meant that the sons of Levi would offer not an animal sacrifice but a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Unfortunatly that was a couple years ago and I doubt I can find my 'proofs'
  2. Never heard of a "release" blessing, but a blessing for someone near death is appropriate if they desire one.
  3. yeah, but at least we're in front of you
  4. It would have a purifying effect on the Church, getting rid of those not willing to "bear all things" for the gospelThe qualifier would be, do you believe the Prophet and Apostles speak Gods will or not? I think I could do it and with reluictance I think my current wife would go along.

  6. You're right, nothing gets me in a bad mood faster than people asking me if I'm in a bad mood.Worst pet peeves though involve drivers - stupid drivers like people making a right turn waiting until they can get into the far left lane rather than turning into the near lane and merging over when they can. I live near a 6 lane city road (3 lanes each way) that is one of the main N/S roads in my 'burb and this happens all the time. Also people driving slow enough that they just barely make it through a light but nobody behind them can - and I am talking way below the speed limit. And of course the ever popular person talking on the cell phone oblivoust to everything around them - one hand holding their cell phone to their ear and the other gesturing- like they can't talk without gesturing.
  7. Are you sure it started then? or it was just noticed then? You may want to talk to a doctor about it.
  8. We know what the scriptures say, did you have a question?
  9. This mortal existance is a probationary time for us so yes we are on trial, however that doesn't mean we have to turn off our intelligence when we read something called scripture.
  10. I jumped on a fireman sliding down a hill, cause thats how I roll
  11. The streets of SLC are not paved with gold, while there are plenty of Saints, there are also plenty of sinners. As someone said, being Mormon in Utah can be a cultural thing and not a conversion thing.
  12. and apparently can not even conceive that he is doing the exact same thing
  13. Take the money and run, but at least get a medical history first just in case you need it in the future.
  14. Rather than answer each individual question. I see his questions as excuses, so I will just make the comments, that Mormons are not trying to reach heaven, we're trying to reach the Celestial Kingdom which implies becoming like God, so the requirments are much higher. I have often thought someone should start "the Church of the Telestial Kingdom" - everyone would qualify. The 2nd point I'd like to bring up is the old saying "To him that is given more, more is required" When this person was baptised and later when he received his endowment he Covenanted with God to do certain things, sounds like he's not living up to his end of the Covenant. I once has a discussion like this with the Stake President and he told me that it would be better for a person like this if they had decided to not try to 'come back' to be released from his Covenants (through their resigning membership or through excommunication) than to be held to the Covenants by God when he died. I had never thought of it like that before.
  15. It could be or Joseph could have added it himself. I think some of what Joseph did while translating, he did so it would be familiar to the people reading it.
  16. While I think that certainly adds to it I don't think thats 100% the case -- It has already been proven that scibes have made additions that have gone on to become part of scripture Johanine comma, last line of the Lords prayer --who is to say the the early generations of documents didn't have similar changes/additions/subtractions made.
  17. When you start with your conclusion and work your way backwards, you can "prove" anything.
  18. Its really too bad laughs are not enabled on this thread cause you'd have gotten a bunch for the above post. You ask me to prove something was changed knowing full well my claim is we can't possibly know what/if something was changed because at best we have 4th generation documents, yet you make a baseless claim that nothing was changed knowing for a fact there are no originals to compare to.
  19. Ask open ended questions to get discussion going.
  20. It IS completly made up. there is not one original autograph to check against so while so called "experts" can make high and mighty claims til they're blue in the face, there is no way at all to prove any accuracy. At best the texts being used are 4th generation documents and most are later than that, but for my example lets assume every extant version is 4th generation, now if 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation documents were changed all those versions made off of the 4th generation documents would hold the same errors and all would agree with each other and all of your 'experts' can slap themselves on the back telling each other 'all is well' and come up with figures to give the 'great unwashed and ignorant masses' to "prove' their 'great' scholarship.
  21. And are you aware that since there are no original texts this is a completly made up number based on guesses and good wishes?
  22. Then you pay the price they ask.
  23. SteveMcluuf -- how about an update? Have you taken any of our suggestons? How did your wife take it? How are you doing? inquiring minds want to know
  24. This is your money you are getting back, you've already paid tithing on it. If the realtor were honest they would just lower their original fee rather than rebate you money. No tithing in my opinion We (the taxpayers) including you are paying for this. Again it would be double tithing in my opinion as you've already paid the taxes on this money the goverment is "giving" you [the government redistributes money it takes, it does not generate cash] Probably, treat it like a business, income minus expenses to generate that income = profit (or increase)in other words: rent minus advertising to get roommate minus their share of the utilities minus any other expenses incurred because you have a room mate = profit or increase my 2 cents worth
  25. Mark them any way you want to, just use a highlighter rather than a magic marker (marks-a-lot, sharpie, whatever you call them in your part of the country) I highlight verses that jump out at me when I read them. I know people that use colors by subject. My mother (non-LDS) would have killed me had I marked anything in the Bible growing up - they were sacred, not to be messed with. I like our (LDS) way much better -- they should be an old friend well worn with signs of use and study.
