Still_Small_Voice Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Here is a car they claim will be manufactured in Germany within a few years that will be getting over 105 miles to the gallon. It is called the Loremo. The Loremo sports a modest 2-cylinder, 20 horse power turbo diesel motor, has a top speed of 100 miles per hour and does 0 to 60 miles per hour in ten seconds. It can seat four but you probably would be getting around 85 miles per gallon or less if you had four adults in the car.Intro*-*Loremo - low resistance mobileLoremo AG: Sporty 157 mpg Diesel : TreeHugger Quote
WillowTheWhisp Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Sounds interesting. I hope they come here. We are certainly going to need much more economical vehicles. Quote
Gwen Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 i would like to see them look into something more economical that will cart around my family of 8 passengers. i guess we could always take 2 cars everywhere. Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 Sounds interesting. I hope they come here. We are certainly going to need much more economical vehicles.Your vehicles are already more economical then a lot of vehicle over here. Of course your gas is a lot more expensive as well.i would like to see them look into something more economical that will cart around my family of 8 passengers. i guess we could always take 2 cars everywhere. Unfortunately that may be the case. GM is closing one of it's truck/SUV plants down because of the recent downturn in sales due to low mileage numbers. There are Hybrid's available in larger vehicles, but they still need to be improved.Look for a new vehicle next year called the Volt. It is a "plug-in" hybrid. It will run 40 miles on an electric charge and has a small engine to charge the batteries. If your commute is less than 40 miles you won't need to buy gas. You can also plug it in to any electrical outlet to charge it. Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 I prefer to stick with a vehicle that has no ties to the major oil companies or OPEC. Least as possible... Quote
Truegrits Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Does not look like it would hold but four people? Quote
pam Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 This would certainly help save on gas. I love the Smart Car. It's adorable. Quote

Still_Small_Voice Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 I think the Smart Car is pathetic in my opinion. 50 miles per gallon! That is weak considering how small the car is. My old Geo Metro got around 41 miles per gallon if I didn't hammer the gas. Quote
Hemidakota Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Cars of the early 80s were achieving 50mpg...anyone remember the Diesel Rabbit? lol Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Does not look like it would hold but four people? It actually only seats 2, but they are coming out with a 4 seater.Cars of the early 80s were achieving 50mpg...anyone remember the Diesel Rabbit? lolBut the way that they measure MPG has changed in the past couple of years. The newer TDi diesels are getting incredible mileage (1000km/tank), but they cost a lot of money. The Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix get 47 MPG. They can make efficient vehicles, but up until now, no one wanted them. Quote
Gwen Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 i think we should all just go back to horse and buggy, that would be so cool. kids were allowed to drive them to so no license, imagine all the state money we could save if we cut all the dmv employees (but don't worry they wouldn't be out a job, cause they could go work for the private industry that would need ppl to help sell and care for all the horses and buggies that would be in demand) oh and the social ramifications as well, all the teens would have to start helping around the house with the horses and wouldn't have time to get in trouble, might learn a thing or two about life while they were at it. i think i'm onto something here, we can save the economy, the earth (would definately help the global warming thing), and all the troubled youth in one shot. Sure, and turn my 40 minute commute into a couple of hours??? Besides, do you want to be behind a horse in grid lock?? Imagine the smell Quote
utcowboy Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Hey now Canuck, I've got horses and they don't smell that bad. :) And Gwen, your wrong, they still get in trouble the just have a different way to do it. A horse can lead a teen into someplaces you can't get a car into.... I have two teen daughters and one teen son... you gotta watch em no matter what!! lol Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 Hey now Canuck, I've got horses and they don't smell that bad. :)I'm sure they don't. But when you get a few hundred of them on a stretch of road right behind one another, I can imagine the odor. Quote
Gwen Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 what!!!!?? i'm wrong? nah couldn't be. i can't believe yall don't like my idea. oh well on to solving the next world crisis. not sure i'll share it though, i'm not appreciated here. seriously though, when are they going to make car seats more practical? they take up more space than one seat in a car. thus you can't put two next to eachother. so these 4 passenger cars wouldn't hold 4 if you had 2 in car seats. so that means it's really only a 3.5 passanger. that would mean my family would need 4 cars for our family, one car seat/booster seat per car. but wait we only have 2 drivers.......... this math isn't working is it. spacing them out further won't help cause there's seems to be the opinion that one should stay in a booster seat till 80lbs, i know 12 yr olds that don't weigh 80lbs. sigh guess i'm not the only one that doesn't have all the answers to the world's problems. i'm glad i realized this before i went and plastered it all over the news, boy i'd feel silly. Guest Username-Removed Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 A lot of those Smart Cars are on the road in Utah. They are very popular and get about 70 mpg! Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted April 13, 2013 Author Report Posted April 13, 2013 I have read that this car does get a little over 105 miles to the gallon. However it takes 20 seconds to get to 60 miles per hour. It is also not available in the United States. I wonder which company is blocking this vehicle from being available in the United States? It is much more affordable than the Nissan Leaf costing about $13,000 less. Quote

Especially in Utah where the rule is: "See someone trying to merge into traffic, speed up." Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted April 13, 2013 Author Report Posted April 13, 2013 I have read they are implementing a three cylinder engine to give the car more power but it drops the miles per gallon to about 80. Still it is a car I think should be available in the United States. Quote
pam Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 Ugh..I just realized I posted on a thread that is 5 years old. Quote
Anddenex Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) Yep, looking forward to it being sold in the US. EDIT: The Nissan Leaf would be a competitor, well, just not as fancy looking. Edited April 13, 2013 by Anddenex Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted April 13, 2013 Author Report Posted April 13, 2013 Here is a video showing the model design. I do not know how two more people can fit in the back of the car. I think it would be a great commuter car.loremo - YouTube Quote
