beefche Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 I don't understand that sentiment. If you are an American citizen, the whoever is elected as president IS your president. You may not have voted for him. You may not like his politics. You may disagree with him on every aspect of policies, actions, beliefs, etc. But in a democratic and Constitutional society, he is your president. If you don't like how a president is elected and can't support him (and I do not mean agree with everything he advocates/does), then do something to change the laws. When someone says "not my president," what, exactly, does he/she mean? As I see it, as long as you live in America, he IS your president. Quote
cjmaldrich Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Since it's obvious who this is addressed to... I said he's not my president YET. Not currently. Not for another month and a week But yeah, I agree. If you don't want the president to be considered your president then maybe it's time to move to another country... Or something... Quote
pam Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Wait..are you my ex husband? When the going got rough he moved. lol Quote

Don't know you from Adam or Eve or whomever. I've heard this from people at work, on the news, in my family. It's something that has bothered me. I've heard it more now than I have before. But, I've heard it used again Pres. Clinton, Pres. Bush, and now president-elect Obama. Quote
Elphaba Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Bush was never my president. Elphaba Quote

BenRaines Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 I am still waiting for Alec Baldwin and Kim Bassinger to move out of the country. They said if Bush were elected president they were moving out of the country. Shows they are just blowhards who don't have a real conviction or they would have moved. Ben Raines Quote

applepansy Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 · Hidden Hidden I agree. The elected President is our President. However, I wish Clinton had never become President. His actions and lies hurt a lot of young people. "If the president doesn't think its _____ then it must not be _____ and we can do it too." Just my opinion.

NeuroTypical Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 I heard Rush Limbaugh talk about how Obama was going to be his president in a little while. I also heard Rush fall in lockstep behind Pres. Clinton on the day of the Oklahoma City bombing - he said "I stand with my president". Think about it - if you say it about Obama, you're more extreme than Rush. LM Quote
Moksha Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Clinton never was and never will be mine......:p:p Were you out of the country at that time? BTW, Planet Utah does not count as an official answer. Quote
JcDean78 Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 I wont claim Obama. I dont claim Bush either. In fact I think we all need to move to Utah and leave the union. I look at Obama's election and the recent nationalization under Bush as a sign of the times. If Obama or Bush were actually constrained like they are supposed to be under the Consitution then that would be different, but we are no longer living in a Republic and it is only going to get worse with Obama. I honestly see both of them as modern day Gadianton robbers, especially Obama. Any person that works so hard against the work of Christ with such a vast group of support must be part of them. Quote
austro-libertarian Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I would say that Obama will be the President of the United States of America. But to say he is your or our President implies more ownership, and you may not (want to) claim him as your President. I know some will disagree with this however. But technically he is the President of the country and "our" for some is too much association with someone they did not vote for. Saying that you should move out of the country if you do not want to call him your President (and assuming that is what you have to do to live in the country) makes the assumption that the US justly (or rightly) owns arbitrary geographical boundaries; or better yet, that it owns you (also implied through imminent domain and taxation). Call it a technicality or semantics, but it makes a world of difference.Perhaps the analogy of the Satan being the prince of this world (John 14:30) is apposite: He is not our prince. Or, a less proper analogy would be Jesus Christ as the just and rightful Lord over this earth, although some do not claim Him as their Lord. He is, however, the Lord. Quote

Never have lived in Utah....live in Planet Missouri....I said that to mess with Elphaba when she reads this later on.......and he still isn't my president..... Quote
