How about this. Since there is nothing that can be done to progress after this life the second coming could come tonight. What I mean by that is if you were to die today or tonight your Second Coming is here. Don't procrastinate the day of your repentance.

A good book I use is by Gerald Lund called "The Coming of the Lord". It is an older book but has been reprinted in paper back and is available at LDS book stores. I have two loaner copies and one original volume in my library.

The scriptures give us the guide we need but Brother Lund gives quotes and discourses that help put it in perspective.

I agree we should not procrastinate and we should prepare. If ye are prepared ye shall not fear.

I feel the key is to stay close to the prophet, keep our testimonies tuned to the gospel and keep the commandments. The Lord has promised that no matter what happens we will be blessed and should not fear if we are doing these things.

I think I'm going to try and find that book. I have heard of it and have had it recommended to me before but have yet to read it.

It is fascinating how the religions of Abraham (Jews, Christians and Muslims) all have similar versions of what will happen.

Jews believe there will be a huge battle and the Jewish messiah will come and they will win -- conquering all the earth's people and from what I understand becoming a master class over these people.

Christians believe in a huge battle where most of Israel is destroyed but that Jsus comes and saves the day.

Muslims believe that Christians and Muslims unite to destroy the unbelievers (the anti-Christ will be powerful at this time) but then Jesus returns, tells the Christians to convert to Islam, half of the Christians refuse and go to war with Islam and, at some point Jesus kills the anti-Christ and his elite Jewish army and, depending on interpretation, all Jews (or just the bad ones) and pigs will be terminated.

Correct me if I am wrong in any of these since end-times prophesy is not necessry my main study.

Prophesies That Are In Progress

All things in commotion, hearts shall fail - D&C 88:88-91

88 And after your testimony cometh wrath and indignation upon the people.

89 For after your testimony cometh the testimony of earthquakes, that shall cause groanings in the midst of her, and men shall fall upon the ground and shall not be able to stand.

90 And also cometh the testimony of the voice of thunderings, and the voice of lightnings, and the voice of tempests, and the voice of the waves of the sea heaving themselves beyond their bounds.

91 And all things shall be in commotion; and surely, men's hearts shall fail them; for fear shall come upon all people.

Fulness of the gospel heard in own language - D&C 90:10-11

10 And then cometh the day when the arm of the Lord shall be revealed in power in convincing the nations, the heathen nations, the house of Joseph, of the gospel of their salvation.

11 For it shall come to pass in that day, that every man shall hear the fulness of the gospel in his own tongue, and in his own language, through those who are ordained unto this power, by the administration of the Comforter, shed forth upon them for the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Prophesies Yet To Be Fulfilled

Lamanites to blossom as a rose - D&C 49:24

24 But before the great day of the Lord shall come, Jacob shall flourish in the wilderness, and the Lamanites shall blossom as the rose.

Great hailstorm - D&C 29:16

16 And there shall be a great hailstorm sent forth to destroy the crops of the earth.

New Jerusalem To Be Built - 3 Nephi 23-25

23 And they shall assist my people, the remnant of Jacob, and also as many of the house of Israel as shall come, that they may build a city, which shall be called the New Jerusalem.

24 And then shall they assist my people that they may be gathered in, who are scattered upon all the face of the land, in unto the New Jerusalem.

25 And then shall the power of heaven come down among them; and I also will be in the midst.

Armaeddon - Mormon Doctrine - "War"

Modern warfare began with the American Civil War, and it has and will continue to increase in severity and wickedness until the final great struggle at Armageddon when our Lord will return to cleanse the earth and usher in the millennial reign of peace.

And my personal favorite: The rainbow prophesy - Joseph Smith - DHC, Vol. 6 p. 264; March 10, 1944

I have asked of the Lord concerning His coming; and while asking the Lord, He gave a sign and said, "In the days of Noah I set a bow in the heavens as a sign and token that in any year that the bow should be seen the Lord would not come; but there should be seed time and harvest during that year; but whenever you see the bow withdrawn, it shall be a token that there shall be famine, pestilence and great distress among the nations, and that the coming of the Messiah is not far distant."

Every Jan 1, I go about looking for a rainbow. I usually see one in this area around May or June - it's too cold for rain before that.

So, anyone seen a rainbow yet this year?
