Churchmouse Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Since I joined the Marines at age seventeen someone has paid me to get up and come to work everyday. Starting tomorrow they will start paying me to stay home. I guess you know you're getting old when they pay you not to come to work. Quote

Churchmouse Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 I'm retiring, but not sitting around waiting to die. My wife and I are starting a "Pick Your Own" berry farm. Southern Hills Berry Farm. June...Strawberries, July...Blackberries, August...Cantaloupe, September...Vacation and October...Pumpkins. That should keep us busy. Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Nice!!! What I do enjoy with federal retirement, annually, we do receive a pay raise... Quote
pam Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Sounds like you'll be working even harder in retirement. Quote

Churchmouse Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 Maybe more physical labor, but less stress. Watching the deterioration of the public school system over the last twenty-five years has been disheartening. My 101 year old father lives with us. He is bedridden and requires twenty-four care. After our work there is over we plan to take a two week driving tour of England, Scotland and Ireland the following September. Quote
Churchmouse Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 I wish:):):) I don't own a lawn chair Quote

Churchmouse Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 You are retiring from teaching right?Yes. The last eleven at an alternative school for those that have been removed from their regular classrooms because of behavior. The rest was split between owning a tutoring center and teaching the mentally retarded. Quote
the Ogre Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 My dad retired from the Army in the 80s. Colonel; twenty-four years in. He then started another career. Twenty years there. Then he retired again. He got bored and went back to work as a linguist. He loves it. He's going to retire from there too he says in sixteen years making it another twenty year hitch. Only three jobs after he graduated from BYU. I'm jealous (plus his retirement is huge). Quote
Moksha Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Don't pensioners from the military retire at much younger ages? Quote
