I saw a beautiful tattoo the other day at a baseball game on a woman's shoulder and arm--it was the branch of a cherry tree and it was blossoming--the artwork was so, so pretty. I don't always like the look of every tattoo I see, but this one was really elegant. Whoever did the work was an amazing artist. The colors and shading were so realistic. I wanted to ask the girl about it, but we had to find our seats because the game was starting.

For those of you who don't have one and would never get one, if you were thinking hypothetically, what symbol would you WANT to tattoo on your body (what symbol would best represent YOU?)? I realize you'd never actually do it...we're just talking strictly hypothetical.

It would be some kind of an airplane. I recently lost my dad and he was an aviator. His life was all about planes. I guess it would kind of be to honor him.

Ignoring any religious prohibition against such for the moment, the fact is that I can't think of anything I'd like permanently put on my body. Actually even if it was just temporary, lets say 3 years I can't think of anything I'd want tattooed onto me. If I was forced to find something I probably could (I have a gun to your head, you are getting a tattoo), but otherwise I have in the past and probably will in the future not be able to think of any tattoos I'd really like to get.

Maybe a lack of a tattoo represents me better than a tattoo?

He said it was in the lower spine. I asked if it was in the area of a tramp stamp, which would be that general area. He clarified. End of story. I said no such thing as to suggest his wife is a tramp. Are you just in a bad mood today or do you normally fly off the handle about nothing? Because you're making a huge deal out of just that, nothing.

Actually, John I was a little offended when I first read the post. However, seeing your name next to it did surprise me, hence my response. After further thought I felt sure you did not mean that in a derogatory way, tho I did initially take it that way. Now I figured you probably have comments misinterpreted, like I do.

No hard feelings now.

I once saw a woman at the beach. She had what was probably a hummingbird on the outside of her thigh when much younger. After many years and apparently many pounds it looked like a fading vulture. LOL.

No tattoos here.

Ignoring any religion prohibition against such for the moment, I'll never get a tat because I'm cheap, I'm allergic to pain, and just don't find them attractive. Oh, and I don't like pain.

I'd probably do the Phoebe thing on Friends--she got one blue dot--it's the Earth as seen from the universe. That would be the extent I would get.

My son has one on his arm saying "Some gave a little, Some gave all. It has a picture of a rifle bayonet buried in the ground with a army helmet on it. It is to honor some men in his company who were killed in Iraq.

I am not a fan of tattoos but I just can't fault him for that one.

Religious prohibition aside, I also wouldn't get one. I change so much- I don't want reminders of what I have been on my body. There are other ways to show uniqueness that don't require so much pain.

Pain is right! I was told it was painful, but (much like with the labor of each of kids) had no idea how painful it was going to be...thankfully it was worth it to me. I wonder if anyone has ever had to quit part way through because they were in too much pain?--and then they never got their tattoo finished?

I had a teacher back in high school who said he met a guy who had been in the military in Alaska. Was getting an eagle on his chest. Because it took so much work and time it was to be done in two visits. After first visit he was transferred. Never finished it. Had half an eagle on his chest. LOL

I once served with a guy who got a tribal eagle across his ribs. He decided on that because some of the females in my unit were trying to talk him into either getting a tat or getting his nipples pierced, and he thought that a tattoo would be less painful. BOY was he wrong!!!! From what I understand, the ribs and the top of the foot are the most painful places to get inked.

I disagree. I have had both done and while the tattoo was discomforting the nipple piercings had my adrenaline so high from the pain i was running around topless, outside in Michigan in January to cool down. It was quicker but way more painful.

Yes, I have a Tattoo :) He's always ringing bells and shouting "Boss! Boss! The plane! The plane!" :D

Given that many threads have degenerated rapidly on this site when posters fail to practice good manners, I thank you for your kindness and level-headedness. :sunny:

Sorry, John Doe, but it doesn't take a bad day on my part to recognize your post as boorish! :sunny: I think the "thanks" ratio confirms that! I mean no ill-will. I just hope that we all model decorum . . . especially from the mods on down!!

As for tats -- I'm a needle-weenie. :sunny:

I am cringing just thinking about it.

I've been real close to getting a tattoo for a long time. But deep down I feel like it would be a mistake.

And regarding nipple piercings - yowzers - I had a girlfriend that had both hers done.. Me, not interested in such :Þ
