Bini Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I'm wanting to see Surrogates this weekend. I've liked most of Bruce Willis' movies and hopefully won't be disappointed by this one. If I don't see this I may opt to see Love Happens. I'm guessing it'll be a chick-flick but I've been known to be a sucker for those too :ÞAnyway, has anyone recently seen anything at the cinema worth seeing? Or movies you'd recommend renting? I have a nice three day weekend ahead of me :] Quote
pam Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I rarely go to the movies but I do want to see "The Invention of Lying" with Ricky Gervais when it comes out next month. I absolutely just love that guy. Quote
aruth5000 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 i don't go to the movie much unless my family drags me along. One movie i do want to see but it wont be till next year is Like Dandelion Dust. Read the book last year and loved it I couldn't put it down. Quote
jameslentz Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 kind of looking forward to "Where the Wild Things Are" Quote
pam Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Is that a sequel to "Where the Red Fern Grows?" Quote
jameslentz Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 just realized you were asking about things to watch this weekend...LOL!! Quote
Bini Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Actually, I've heard some good reviews on "Where The Wild Things Are" and so I've kind of sort of been wanting to check that out. I've had a few friends say to go see "Fame" but not sure if that's something I really want to see.. =/ Quote
Maureen Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 If District 9 is still playing in your area, I highly recommend it. M. Quote

beefche Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I'm hoping to go see "9" tomorrow. Not dying to see it, but I sooo want to go to the movies just to enjoy the big screen and popcorn. Tim Burton's movies are always interesting, if not a little kooky. Quote
Bini Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 ^ Yes that was good. I did see that one a while back. Quote
Snow Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 If District 9 is still playing in your area, I highly recommend it.M.Agreed. I saw in in So. Utah while visiting Zions a few weeks ago. Quote
Guest Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 I saw 9 yesterday. I didn't like it. I thought it was a, huh? But then, I'm not a big fan of Tim Burton's wierd characterizations. District 9 is rated-R. Movies I saw recently: Time Traveller's wife. Not too great. But that's probably because I loved the book. My husband thought it was cool. Shorts. Loved it! My kids loved it. I was even surprised that my 6-year-old understood the movie even with it going forward and backward in time like crazy. GI Joe. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! I never saw the GI Joe cartoons or comics or action figures. G-Force. It was okay. Kids enjoyed it enough. Quote
ADoyle90815 Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 Besides "Where the Wild Things Are," I'm looking forward to the new Alice in Wonderland movie with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. As far as movies I've seen recently, I liked "Julie and Julia" and "September Issue" which is a documentary about Vogue magazine. Quote
Bini Posted September 27, 2009 Author Report Posted September 27, 2009 I've heard rumours of "Alice in Wonderland" the new one. It sounds very interesting! For sure I'll be seeing this one ;] Quote
Maureen Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 ...District 9 is rated-R....In Canada, District 9 is rated 14A which means:14A Suitable for viewing by persons 14 years of age and older. Persons under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. May contain: violence, coarse language and/or sexually suggestive scenes.Sometimes ratings can be too limiting. Does this mean that LDS in Canada have more choices in movie going than the LDS in the States?M. Quote

I saw it a couple of weeks ago, I really enjoyed it.Going to the movies/cinema is nice, but nothing beats going to the theatre. And I don't mean the mini ones, they are just not the same. Unfortunately I only get go about twice a year - the last play I saw was blood brothers, it really was good. Quote
Guest Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 I knew that there were different ratings in different countries. You've brought up an interesting topic.. I don't put stock on the movie ratings as much as the actual content. Like Hitchcock (Will Smith as a punk super hero) for example, it was PG-13 but we walked out on that one. I let the kids (ages 6 and 8) watch Transformers and Star Trek even if they were PG-13. I felt they could handle them okay. I didn't take them to KingKong though. I didn't think they could handle that one - so we waited for the DVD so we can "edit out" the bloody parts. So yeah, for me, the rating doesn't really decide if it's appropriate enough. It just gives me a quick general guideline.Bini, it was funny when we went to the Philippines and watched a movie. They bleep out curse words there (at least they did in Cebu). But, I guess they didn't know the f-word is a curse word? They kept those in! Some PG-13 movies have f-words in them now. Quote

Bini Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Update :]Finally went to the cinema but we didn't see Surrogates. Instead we saw Cloudy With Chance of Meatballs in 3D and it was great! I think hubby and I were the only adults in there.. But it was totally worth seeing! I recommend 3D for those that are interested in watching it. It's rated PG for brief mild language: the word "hell" was used once. Otherwise, there isn't any violence - not even fantasy violence.I don't put stock on the movie ratings as much as the actual content. Someone told me that movies can remain PG13 if it contains three or less f-bombs. Exceeding this and not limited to, would graduate the movie to a higher rating. And I'm talking about here in the US and not PI. But still, that's a bit amusing with the Cebu censorship Quote
will227457 Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 district 9 was OK....not my thing I would suggest this one Inglourious Basterds cool movie Quote
Winnie G Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Saw Surrogates this weekend liked it thought it would be more suspenseful that was the only disappointment, other then that it was good. We did see Cloudy this the chance of Meatballs in 3D when it came out loved it. My 2 cents Canadian ratings is I look the US ratings before I go that goes for videos too. Quote
Bini Posted September 30, 2009 Author Report Posted September 30, 2009 district 9 was OK....not my thingI would suggest this one Inglourious Basterdscool movieI enjoyed District 9 but the shaky camera for the first half of the movie is my only complaint. Otherwise it was pretty good. Not as good as Star Trek though. Not even close. Quote
