EQ_Guy Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Did anyone do anything special after they were Endowed... excluding being sealed? I mean do people often do anything special after it's over with, socially or anything? Quote
beefche Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I didn't. Personally, I wanted time alone to think about what I had experienced. I felt like I was drinking from a fire hydrant and needed some time alone to process my feelings and thoughts. Also, consider where the temple is for you. If you will have to drive a distance, it may not be a good idea to plan anything afterwards. Perhaps something simple like lunch or dinner afterwards. Quote
Hemidakota Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Not really but to return and absorbed the knowledge and customs in the endowment session. Then I went and learned everything about the Washing and Annointings. Quote
Wingnut Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 It was a two hour and fifteen minute drive for me to get to the temple, and I went with my parents. My siblings both stayed at home. We went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory on the way home, which at the time, was reserved for special occasions. (Before there were more of them closer to us.) Quote
Gwen Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 if you will be going to a temple with a beehive clothing next to it then i would try to schedule the endowment early enough to go there after. you have to have one set of garments before you go in but other than that you can purchase after (when you can actually try them on). when i went i didn't have the option of time, beehive clothing was going to be closed when i got out of the temple so i had to buy all before i went. well..... i had the wrong size..... just a little stressful. it was an 8 hour drive for us so we had to leave that night. i was just stuck so with everything else i was absorbing i had the wrong size underclothes (which for some can be an adjustment in the right size). anyway i don't want to start a debate on the garments just something i don't think is always thought about. if you travel try to schedule time where you can just spend some time in the beehive clothing. if you have to order everything before you go due to no clothing center nearby then i would suggest ordering a couple different sizes and styles, figure out what you like then you can order more. other than that thought i'd say go out to eat.... but then again i just like to go out and eat so anything is a great excuse for that. lol Quote
Hemidakota Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Talking with my friend who is a currently serving as a stake president, he asked what brought to a specific funeral. I stated, this wonderful brother served in the past in the San Diego temple and on many occasions I would see his cheery face in the initiatory room and talk briefly. Also spoke about how members would take the easier tasking at the Temple in doing endowments only. When my lovely companion and I attend the temple, we would ask the front desk, what is needed at that time. Believe or not, majority of it was spent doing initiatory. It is time consuming for any member but the rewards are far greater in completing the works for a greater amount of our brothers and sisters work beside baptism for the dead. Adding another penny to the pile here.... Quote
beefche Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Hemi, he's going for his own endowment. It's not likely he'll have time to do more than his own endowment on the first day. Quote
phatbac Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 When i went with my father we traveled like 6 hours to get there so for us it was an overnight trip. we tried an exotic resteraunt we didnt have available to us back home (Thai btw and it was very good) we also hadnt been to Wash. DC very much so we did some sight seeing as part of the trip. but everyone else is right it is a lot to take all in so you will want a lot of refelction time and meditation time. dont plan too much that very day because of all you do in the temple can be a lot for one person spiritually and emotionally and i dont know about anyone else but i was worn out afterwards. so it depends on you but if you are going home the same day then i would not plan anything bigger than a nice dinner afterwards. cjmaldrich Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 When I did my endowment, the temple was two hours away. My fiance at the time, my two best friends and their lady partners came along and we had dinner afterward. That's the best I could've asked for :) But anyone reading this who may be going through the temple soon, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't use the Celestial Room as a family reunion spot like it's your personal living room!!! !!! Reverence, please. Quote
ryanh Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I recall reading something about this very recently, but I can't put my finger on the article right now. I believe it suggested planning activities that would not interfere with the ability to keep in rememberance what just occurred. Sage advice IMO. The only thing I recall about the day I was endowed was the session, and the people I was with. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Quote
Moksha Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 It you can afford it, a trip to Tahiti would be a lot of fun afterward. Otherwise lunch at your local wholesome family restaurant would be nice. Quote
Bethie Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I just had my Endowment session last month (Dec.11th) at the Salt Lake Temple. I didn't want to do much afterward, other than absorb the sacred experience. But as we left the Temple that evening around 7pm, we walked out into the most beautiful scene of all the Christmas Lights of Temple Square, I felt Beauty inside me, and I saw the beauty outside of me. I was infused with Light and Beauty, when I walked out of the Temple, it was all around me too!I'll treasure it forever!!!God Bless. Quote
Dravin Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I think we went out to Dinner... I think... oh well, if we did go to dinner it obviously wasn't memorable. The Endowment Session though, that I remember. Quote

deseretgov Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Now that would have been amazing to have the Temple Square Christmas lights after an endowment. After my endowment my dad treated everyone to dinner in the temple(Idaho Falls) cafeteria. I don't really remember what we did after that. I remember the ride home and thinking about what had happened. I just remember thinking that it was the thing I was looking for. Our church just seemed so dry and "regular/plain." I loved the ceremony and dare I say "cultish" aspect. Sorry for saying cultish I just couldn't think of a better word to describe it. Quote
pam Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Congrats....Bethie, some of us here, if we knew, would have attended this wonderful moment with you. Maybe that's why she didn't mention it until after the fact. She was afraid of that very thing. haha Quote
Bethie Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) I would have loved if some of you had come to my Endowment session. Really!!! I should have mentioned it on here, but I forgot. Sorry! About 6 or 7 friends from my ward came. I asked my visiting teacher to be my escort and she was great. I'm going for the second time this Tues. with my ward's R.S. sisters. We will be going to Jordan River this time, I've been there to do baptisms for the dead and it's a beautiful Temple. I can't wait to go through it. I'm glad I went to the Salt Lake Temple first, though, since they have the live drama and most other Temples show a movie of it. I'm a little concerned since I don't really remember any of the signs and tokens and words I learned the first time. I pretty much just repeated word for word after the veil worker at my first session, I'm thinking my second time will be much the same. How long does it take for you to memorize everything? I do really good at visual memorization, but since you can't "take notes" in the Temple, that's not an option. note to Deseret gov: The word is not "cultish", but I would say "symbolic". It was all about symbols, and like you, I loved that about it! Edited January 6, 2010 by Bethie Quote
beefche Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 You'll always have people there to help you remember what you need to. Don't worry about it. And some people have gone for years and still can't remember. Again, when the time comes for the REAL need to know the right things, you'll know. Quote
eternalpromise516 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 OMGosh Bethie! i can't believe it's been over a year for you now! that's so freaking amazing!!! and btw, i finally was baptized too, back on June 20th congratulations my love! i'm so happy for you. i'm planning on going to Salt Lake City for my endowment too in 2.5-3 years...so all you SLC-area .netters better be ready, cause you're coming with me i'll buy Pam dinner even though i haven't been endowed yet, i would imagine the best thing to do is to remember the sacredness of the day and the beautiful blessings you've just received and experienced by keeping it simple if there is any post-endowment celebration. just make sure you have plenty of alone time to contimplate, and most importantly pray :) Quote
pam Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 lol I'm sure I'll still be a member of the site in 2.5 years. Quote

annamaureen Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Nothing super special... we ate in the temple cafeteria and then my fiance (now husband) went to get our marriage license. The endowment was the memorable part, not the rest of the day! Quote
Jbs2763 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 after i went thru...we just went up the street and got supper...then had the peaceful reflection time in Chicago traffic... talk about not being able to hold on to the moment Quote
