Well, the date on the article is April 10th (yesterday), but it refers to the even happening on "Thursday" -- presumably the most recent Thursday (the 8th).

She took several days to report it - over a week in fact. I'm curious as to where police got all these "facts" from. I thought normal procedure was not to talk to the media about details of the case until it has gone to court.

This is an aful thing, even if it was a april fools prank...this should of never happened. YOu dont physically hurt someone as a prank....he used a stun gun on her come on...thats not a prank if he thought it was its a sickone.....I do remember yrs ago when I was at byu...we roommates did send some of the guys on a savanger hunt and we were hiding behind some bushes we wore our over coats and used our hair dryers as a gun...no stun guns...not handcuffs....and we used thread to tie the guys around the polls cant remember the name of the building..haha...but come on it was only thread...if this was a prank that this guy did...it was wrong....so will have to wait and see if it was a prank or not. Will probably never knowthe truth...There are alot of sick people out there...beware....some of them are in our Church.

BYU student arrested on assault charge

April 10th, 2010 @ 2:20pm

PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Brigham Young University student has been arrested on suspicion of using a stun gun on a woman and trying to handcuff her.

Stetson Hallam was booked Thursday night into the Utah County Jail on third-degree felony charges of aggravated assault and attempted kidnapping.

The 20-year-old BYU sophomore is accused of pinning the 19-year-old woman to the ground and trying to handcuff her after incapacitating her with a stun gun Tuesday at an apartment complex where both live.

Investigators say she bit down on his finger until he let her go and apologized, claiming it was all an April Fool's joke.

Police say he had pursued the woman romantically, but she had no interest in him. They also say he was the woman's home teacher in their LDS church ward.

You have to admit that claiming the assault, with a stun gun for whatever purpose, as an April Fool's prank is not something you hear everyday as a defense.

It proves what I've always suspected about the Mormons: They're evil! They all look (and act) just like Mr. and Mrs. Twit from The Twits, glue birds to trees and force the poor monkeys to stand on their heads. Better watch out for the Dreaded Shrinks! ;)

(I've been reading that book to my daughter these past few nights. She loves it!)

(P.S. For those not familiar with this great literary classic, Amazon.com: The Twits (9780142410394): Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake: Books)

Many times women are late in reporting this type of thing( and worse).

We would have a better justice system we did. But in the US getting the story out is as important (if not more is some peoples eyes) then getting it to court. Is it different in the UK?

a lot of stories don't make it into the media not sure this one would have gone past the local paper unless it was a slow news day or the girl had contacted them herself

When I was at BYU there was a “cleanup” day we did cleanup in Provo and white-washed the “Y”. In my ward there was a guy that was kind of a nut job and early morning when they came to wake him up he thought he would try a prank. He loaded a 12 gauge shotgun with a blank charge, opened his front door and fired the shotgun at point blank range into the wake up group. The charge blew a hole in the screen door and blew a guy off the porch. The blank blast was not fatal but tore the guy’s shirt and there was blood oozing. The guy that fired the blank thought he had put in a real cartridge in the shotgun by accident and that he had killed the other guy so he went into shock and passed out.

When the dust cleared the person firing the shotgun had to be rushed to the hospital in serious condition due to shock – the other guy quickly recovered once he discovered he was not dead. I guess you would say the prank backfired?
