Hemidakota Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 LINK: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/49847930-76/heber-barton-camp-girl.html.cspFirst, my condolence to the Barton family for this tragic lost of their daughter. Being it was a church camp (LDS Church camp), I now wondering what the church will be responsible for this tragic lost of life or not. Noting the lack of content in the story, I guess we have to wait. Quote
Gwen Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 i think you have to wait and find out the cause of death. some things just happen, it would have happened anywhere they were, camp just happened to be the place. other things obviously are location/incident specific. the church is only responsible if there was some action on the leaders part that was irresponsible. i would hope in the end no matter the "fault" the church will be there for them at a time like this.i think this will probably have some weight on how things are handled she had just visited a lake with a group of girls and her mother and was hiking up hill back to camp.as sad as the loss of any young life is i do see some good that can come from the mother being there. i think as hard as it would be to receive a call that your child died while at camp the mother was there and knows exactly what was and wasn't done. there can be some peace from that haunting question of what happened and was enough done that could really destroy a family. however, on the other hand i hope the mother does not carry guilt for not doing something "more" if there was nothing more that could have been done.i just can't imagine what the family must be going through. Just_A_Guy Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Some commenter at KSL is saying that the girl had some medical episodes on a family trip a week or two ago. Obviously, anonymous comments aren't the be-all-end-all; but a pre-existing medical condition would make a lot of sense here. Quote

Perhaps an undiagnosed heart defect or something, like what happened with John Ritter. How tragic for the family. Quote
Dove Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 Hemidakota, I tried to look up the article using the link you provided, but the computer wouldn't let me do it. Could you re print the link, please? Quote

julian Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) O really?? did she died in boot camp because she was dehydrated? Why didn't they have enough water? This is really sad whenever I saw this story in some bootcamp directories. Edited June 11, 2011 by julian Quote
seeking_peace Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Boot camp? It was Girls' Camp. Girls' Camp is al about fun and fellowship. Quote
Backroads Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Girls camp is hardly going to be tough. Frankly, anyone who gets THAT sick on a simple little hike is either completely out of shape, not drinking enough water, has a pre-existing condition, or a combination of some of those. Comparing this to "boot camp" is moronic. On thisi story, my heart is breaking. How sad would that be! Quote
Jennarator Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 My sister has two girls at girls camp right now. (In AZ where it's really hot.) Condolences to the family. Quote
slamjet Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Ok... this story is over a year old. Why dig it up again? And as usual, it's the person with one single post to their name to find it. Quote
