Over43 Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Bourdain (The Lay Over and No Reservations) is a hoot. He's crass, a dork, and at the same time very human, it is some of (in my opinion) the best TV on TV. I like The Walking Dead, The Mentalist, Saturday morning English soccer on ESPN, The World Poker Tour on Root Sports, Finding Bigfoot on APL is the best comedy on TV, Hawaii Five-0 is not as good as the original but has action, and the Cubs on WGN on summer afternoons. Movies: the latest I thought were good have been Moneyball, Larry Crowne, and Johnny English Returns (or Reborn). I would mention The Descendants but that is rated R and I know I would never watch that. :) Quote
Over43 Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 If you can get Netflix, it is totally worth it to get the entire X-Files series, Buffy & Angel, Stargate Atlantis, and many others. I know Lost is unavailable for streaming video, and some others I'd like to see, but I think it's a matter of time before everything is available for streaming. The X-Files, one of the greatest series ever. Also Magnum PI is available on Netflix. Quote
annewandering Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 My favorite right now is Midsomer Murders. If you like supernatural try the British version of Being Human. Bones is just excellent. The Mentalist is always amusing. A short series on British tv was an offbeat Sherlock Holmes you might like for a change of pace. A new show I like that is improving as it goes is "Person of Interest' It has Ben from Lost in it. He has a great character to play. You can find the British shows on Netflix. Well worth the 8 dollars. Quote
Backroads Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 I recently discovered "Once Upon a Time". So cute with just the right hint of Lost-ness. We also tried "Game of Thrones" since I liked the books, but it's more than a bit smutty. Tis the nature of HBO, I suppose. Quote
Spartan117 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Firefly and Serenity. Quality show. Way ahead of it's time. Quote
Dravin Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 My favorite (non-rerun) shows as of late: Chopped Restaurant Impossible Restaurant Stakeout Grimm I have some regular go to shows to kill some time but I try not to let those four slip past me (having DVR helps). Quote
SanctitasDeo Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 If they have not already been suggested: Eureka (tv show) Doctor Who (tv show) Warehouse 13 (tv show) Quote
pam Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I haven't even heard of most of these tv shows that you are all talking about. Quote
Blackmarch Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I just pulled out star trek one the other day and watched it.... now i think i have to put it up there with star trek II wrath of khan as a favorite for it's story and the thinking it provokes (and it taking on borderline religious philosophy ) on the flipside i'm having a major sad in finding out half of my Babylon 5 dvds are ruined Quote
applepansy Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I'm sad they didn't continue Off the Map. I liked it. There is so little on TV worth watching. We've been watching Star Trek Enterprise on Netflix. Quote
Maureen Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 My son and I have been watching Ringer (with Sarah Michelle Gellar). The plot thickens with each episode, it's a juicy stew right now.M. Quote
Backroads Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I haven't watched "Eureka" in a while. We don't have tv, so all viewing is via internet-type stuff. Good show. And "Firefly" was brilliant. Then there was "Pushing Daisies". Brilliant show, should not have been cancelled. Quote
Over43 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) MI-5 is available on Netflix. Truly one of the great series ever filmed. Edited July 1, 2012 by Over43 Quote
rayhale Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 The show is a little old, but I would recommend watching Twin Peaks. It’s one of the best shows of all time. Quote
Windseeker Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I go the sci-fi route or the more educational ones... anyways shows that I've enjoyed;Star Trek (OS), TNG, DS9, VoyagerStargate SG-1Babylon 5 (first 4 seasons)GargoylesMunkThe Dresden FilesThe Vision of EscaflowneSmallvilleAbbott and CastilloAirwolfNo Farscape?I'm working my way thru that series now and enjoy it. I was a bit irritated at first with the main character John Crichton, he's a bit whiney, but I've realized I've been taking him too seriously and now I see the humor in this dramatic character. Coming from Star Trek its' refreshing to see different aliens that actually look like aliens instead of Star Trek where they are basically all humaniods with differently placed bumps on their head. I'm considering Battle Star Galactica but I'm not a fan of the female President. I think next on my list will be Star Gate. I enjoyed the first season of Walking Dead. Quote

I'll probably have to check it out tho.Stargate SG-1 is awesome. Quote
Over43 Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 A&E is running a new series called Longmire, it is about a modern day Wyoming sheriff. Good stuff. Quote
