(Goes to Steve's desk)Steve: I'm looking at this actress here (shows browser image). She was in Vertigo and a bunch of other movies, and I'm trying to remember her name.Vort: (Looks at image of actress and sees popup text that says, "Kim Novak in Vertigo") Uh, Kim Novak?Steve: Yeah, that's her! You're on it, Vort! And thus my legend lives on. Quote
Dravin Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) I have to confess I love it when stuff like that happens. For my brief stint in the mission office everyone was convinced I was an MS Office genius, the source of my knowledge? F1. It's amazing how many people can sit there and watch you look through the documentation and be impressed at how much you 'know'. Edited August 3, 2012 by Dravin Quote

beefche Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Today, my cow-orker got a phone call about a fax we never received. Sally said, "Can you scan it and email to me?" So, caller scanned and emailed the document to Sally. Sally replied to the email to say that we had received the document. Sally then got another scan from the caller. This time, the caller scanned a piece of paper that had a handwritten message: "Thank you, Sally! I appreciate your help." I don't think it was in crayon, but I could be wrong on that..... Quote

NightSG Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Today, my cow-orker got a phone call about a fax we never received. Sally said, "Can you scan it and email to me?"Reminds me of working tech support. User got some long error message, so I asked him to email it to me next time it popped up.Silly me, I expected text, not a truecolor TIFF over dialup, at fullscreen resolution. Quote
EarlJibbs Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 I am super smart and know a ton of useless and important information... as long as I have the internet. I was on a scout camp this week and didnt have cell service. It was fine until I wanted to prove someone wrong about several items... but I couldnt! Not without my large brain the internet :) I must admit though, I am very good at findign what I need. Is that a skill I can put on a resume? Or do I simply put that I am as smart as billions of people put together? Quote

bcguy Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 I like the last diagram :) I worked for a big electronics mfg once as a break fix pc tech. I once got a call of a cd was stuck in computer. When I got there, I asked the woman was the problem was. She said "well when I went to insert the cd, it went into this slot and then found out, that was not the slot the cd should have been inserted into". What she did was push the cd in where there was just enough room between the top of the cdrom unit, and the top bezzel it slid into. :) Quote

bcguy Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 now there are inept people when it comes to pc help, then there are those who you pull a prank on and watch them in fustration. In collage, we were taking IT for administrator. one of the students, her name was Victoria. She was perhaps the perfect person to pull the "change the keyboard" prank on. She was away, so I switched the mouse and keypad with mine. She got back and started to move the mouse. I watched her mouse moment and followed it. Then half way across the screen, I moved the mouse in the opposite direction. After a while, she grew increasingly frustrated and shaked her hands in the air. Us guys watched in amusement when she opened ms word and started to type and her words were becoming jumbled. She let out a ARGGGG and us guys said "we pulled a prank on you we switched your keyboard and mouse" ohh she was not happy and she just gave us that death stare Quote
annewandering Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 Obligatory (xkcd: Tech Support Cheat Sheet):This is so totally beyond true! Was just showing the chart to my husband. He saId he looks at the computer, when its not working right, and is afraid to push any button for fear of messing up the entire thing. The thing that makes us look so bright is we see it as a hmmmmm ok lets find a nice button to push. lol ok not quite but close! Quote
pam Posted August 4, 2012 Report Posted August 4, 2012 I knew it. Now I'm not sure how to take that. Quote

In today's world it doesn't really matter if you don't know something, what matters is if you know where to find the correct answer quickly. Quote
