pam Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 My old man used to bring these home for us kids to play with... My mom used to make Christmas wreaths out of these every year when I was growing up. Then she would spray paint them gold. Quote
volgadon Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Remember when grocery stores used an abacus? I do, and am not yet 30. Calculators weren't commonplace in Israel until the 90s. Quote

pam Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 (edited) Alzheimer's? My dad had Alzheimers when he died 3 years ago. So jokes about Alzheimers aren't funny to me. Edited August 26, 2012 by pam Quote
slamjet Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 My old man still has a few of these punch card storage cabinets he uses to store and organize his tools, nuts, bolts, pipe fittings, metal scrap, etc...I wouldn't mind having a few myself, except I have no place to put them. Quote
slamjet Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 I remember when my old man came home with one of these:My poor, poor dad. Stood there and tried and tried to tell me that I don't need to punch in =6 after I punched in 3+3. I couldn't get it through my 8 year old mind that it figured it out for me. But I do remember using this when I was quite young:Continuing...But I learned to ride a bike on one of these (Mine was green):My mom drove us around in this (hers was white):And when I got older, I learned to shave with this:And this was my first computer:But I got the computer and programming bug with one of these:Using this as data and software storage:It took what seemed like forever for a couple hundred lines of code to load up. But hey, it was a start. As my old man would say, "Those were the day's." Quote
slamjet Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 BLUE CHIPS!!!! I remember those! My mom collected them all the time and I helped stick them to the redemption form. Wow, that was ages ago. Quote
pam Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Remember when POGS were big? Remember slap-on bracelets? Somewhere I think I still have a huge collection of POGS. Quote

dahlia Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 Pam - I once worked for a company that had the rights to the Norman Rockwell art used for Top Value Stamp catalog covers. We licensed the art for calendar and figurine makers, etc. I got to work with Rockwell's son on the licenses, which was kinda cool to have that connection. Quote

morumon Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 I remember using punch cards, riding a schwinn style bike with banana seat and sissy bar, and several other things mentioned. I also remember Breakfast Squares. They were our family's staple food on long road trips. I actually liked them a lot and wish they were still made. (what they were made of though is probably a greater mystery than the age the of the universe )1970's GENERAL MILLS BREAKFAST SQUARES by poptartsbox, on Flickr Quote

mnn727 Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 (edited) Believe it or not but I went to a local store 3 weeks ago and their computers were down, they pulled out the old fashioned credit card machine and did it just like in the old days. Talk about a blast from the past -- haven't seen that done in 25 years at least. Edited August 28, 2012 by mnn727 Quote
Blackmarch Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 .. credit cards were carbon-copied?... at how a sharpened hooked to the end of another stick was the way to bring home the steak? Quote
skoshmom Posted August 27, 2012 Report Posted August 27, 2012 Ok, gonna age myself. Does anyone remember Kellogg's Danish-Go-Rounds? My younger sister and I were talking about them just the other day. They were kind of like Pop-Tarts, but were shaped like a danish roll I believe? Quote
