I understand what is trying to be communicated here. The intent behind what is being said is refreshing and good - but I do not like the methods employed. I have never been a champion of the notion that the end justifies the means.

It is hard for me to accept dark metaphors to imply something enlightening. For example I believe that stalking is a kind of abuse. Some terms like pride can be use in a good or evil setting. Like taking pride in other accomplishments as a show of support and friendship.

So I ask - how far is too far? When do our words and points over reach what we really are trying to communicate. - I will stop criticism here - let us seek out truth and goodness wherever we can find it. Especially if it is a lowly Samaritan or and injured neighbor on a dangerous path we must take in our everyday life journeys. The goal in life is not to accumulate noble ideas for a private library but to find the means to make noble ideas an example of reality in how we live.

Traveler if you knew Kathryn Skaggs you would hardly come up with the kind of opinion you may have taken regarding her blog.

That is too much. I appreciate that he looks uncomfortable, because he is humble enough to realize that being treated like a celebrity by his church is dangerous to the purpose of his position.

You might want to start another thread as to not hijack this one.

Pam I agree. Kathryn is awesome. If she has said "I follow the prophet" how many people would have read her blog. And "follow the prophet" just doesn't quite have the same meaning as someone who diligently searches out what, where, when, why and what he said.

But I also see the point Traveler is trying to make. And on further consideration I agree to some extent. We do need to be cautious in our words. In the case of Kathryn I feel she was appropriate in using the work stalking for her title and blog, but I was wrong to throw my hat in....sort of. It would be interesting to know how many people here actually went and read Kathryn's blog because of the title I used.

I read the blog - because you posted it and I wanted to see why you were impressed. It seemed somewhat of a paradox. As I read the post I found that I agreed with the intent of the post but to be honest I was bothered that the Lady Kathryn seemed to be a little ignorant of the stalker term. That little fact and my personal prejudices caused me to think the blog was intended to be more sensational than honest.

I've really never read a blog that is more honest than Kathryn. Did you read any of her other posts?

I'm with traveler on this one. It's just a random pet peeve of mine - barely worth mentioning. But it does impact me, especially when the horrible-activity-being-parodied-as-acceptable has touched me personally in some way.

Another example comes from Robert Fulghum, author of the book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A Beauty Bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one first--before we tried anything else. It would explode high in the air--explode softly--and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth--boxes of Crayolas. And we shouldn't go cheap either--not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the word with imagination instead of death. A child who touched one wouldn't have his hand blown off.

I know a few vets with PTSD. I've known battlefield trauma surgeons. I've met more than one person injured in war. I know the author's intent is to make a light-hearted point, but to me it crosses the line into light-mindedness.

Why do you refer to her as "Lady Kathryn"?

The applepansy link to "Kathryn's Blog" appears now to point to an apparently antiMormon blog, almost empty save for a link to an antiMormon video. Anyone know what's up with the blog link and/or Sister Skaggs?
