I need to move somewhere else. I have been smitten with Colorado Springs, Colorado since about 2006....not so sure now. I live in Panama City, Florida and my family is the very first family to settle in this area. My (5) generations Grandfather was a land surveyor and surveyed NW Fl with Andrew Jackson and decided to move the clan from the North Carolina area in 1824. Free land i guess...

Any suggestions? I hate the humidity in Florida and am fairly opposed to living with Yankees.

Thanks, Bytor

Come to Utah, Bytor. Decent economy and relatively sane government - should be some good opportunities for a financial planner (isn't that what you do?).

Yes..I do work as a financial planner. My fear is culture shock. So much church., ( too many mormons ).... that said my youngest son will likely attend BYU before his mission. Definitely a consideration.

Are you thinking more country or more city?

I love the Ozarks, it is beautiful, in fact hubby and I are thinking of going for a drive thru them this weekend.

I also love San Diego. Beach, zoo, lots of cultures, very exciting place, but also a whole lot of people. After a while there I tend to get claustraphobic.

The civil war has been over for quite some time. I didn't know this rebels/yankees animosity still existed. I don't know what those of us in the NW/PNW are, either. :)

People in the west are not yankees so anywhere here should work. Colorado has the legal recreational marajuana now so you might consider that. If you dont want to be so close to Utah theres a lot of nice places in Idaho. A lot of people like Boise for some reason. Its close to rec areas and is not heavily LDS. Plenty but not heavily. You know you might just like being around lots of LDS people. I loved it in SL. It was really great. If you are not conservative it might drive you nuts though, unless you are slow to anger. :).

Now this could be taken two ways.

I'm in Aurora, Colorado. Despite this city being famous in the movie shooting a couple of months ago, I really like it here. I work in downtown Denver. I also really enjoy the area around Colorado Springs too! Garden of the Gods is awesome, and they also have a train going up a 14,000+ mountain. That was great. Lots of stuff to do.

Yes...the war between the states ended long ago...but, until your state has been invaded by Northerners, who incidentally refer to themselves as yankees, well...quite frustrating. Probably a bit like Californians moving in hordes to Utah and Colorado. Much of what you enjoy personally about the area changes....

Panama City is pretty small.....maybe 60,000. I would say that we want to live near a large Metro area...not directly in, but near. San Diego is a fantasy.....pricey?

I thought y'all called it the War of Northern Aggression.

The San Diego area is wonderful and too many people know it. It is very pricey. Has a nice bunch of LDS people there. :) We used to go to church in Alpine, a little town near there, up the mountain a little bit. You might check that out. It is extremely nice. :) Not the Alpine in northern Cal. although that is a lovely area but very snowy in the winter.

What smote you and what made you not so sure?

We've been in Colo Spgs for a decade now. Our kids were born in this end of CO, and I'm happy here. Lots of military. Easy to find an established stake and ward, with whatever size ward boundaries you wish. About once every 3-5 years is a winter not for the faint of heart, otherwise quite doable.

Danger: You will see marijuana dispensaries. If you live outside of the city, you may drive past a grower or two and not know it. Although such things really aren't part of my usual daily experience. You gotta go further north and get involved in Denver/Boulder politics to have such things intrude.

As a resident of the south I feel your pain in regards to the humidity...hate it, hate it, hate it!!! And yes, I agree about living with yankees.

I would love to live in Oklahoma...don't really know why other than I'm a Sooner fan.

I know that I could not stand harsh winters because our winters are so mild. I need to become a snowbird...north in the summer, south in the winter :)

Y'all come on over to Texas: great economy, low housing prices in general and little humidity unless you're near the coast.

Not as many Yankees as in Florida (and I've lived in both) though we do have some.

And yes Vort, it was the war of Northern Aggression.

I from the NW and I don't find the Humidity an issue.

The biggest problem I have here in Florida is how every business keeps their buildings as cold as walk in freezers. Everytime my wife and I go out to eat or go see a movie we have to bring coats with us or we freeze. It's borders on insanity. I've been to many hot humid areas and I'm not sure what people are thinking down here.

I also miss the mountains. It's so flat here.

Other then that, I bet you have some amazing sunsets on your side, we have stunning sunrises here. I also love the clouds here. Clouds are pretty bland in the NW, here each cloud has so many shades, they are beautiful.

Visited the springs many times and attended church at the Northgate ward...really loved it. Pikes Peak, the people are very friendly, the water is delicious the air is clean...still one of my fav's.

We looked hard at Dallas...until my father in law moved to El Paso. I have an opportunity in Houston to stay with the firm that I work with...but, no mountains.

I fell in love with Colorado Springs as well when I would visit with my friend's family each Thanksgiving while at BYU. I told Dravin that part of our pre-nuptial agreement included moving to CS at some point in our life.
