Backroads Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I recently heard a rumor about as much of a third of the young women heading out on missions area returning early. Is there any truth to this? Quote
Dravin Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I'd take such a rumor with a large pillar of salt. If the Missionary Department releases numbers then I'd take it seriously. It's just one of those cases where confirmation bias is a very real problem in trying to get any sort of sense from the board. Quote
Misshalfway Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I don't know if its true or not. But it wouldn't surprise me if people got "swept away" by the new policy and perhaps rushed a decision that needed more preparation. Quote
pam Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I've not heard this and I'm involved in several facebook pages for admins that even members of the church missionary dept are a part of and they have not mentioned anything. Quote
carlimac Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 My son has a friend who decided to come home early from her mission ( 9 months or so early) to get married. She was honorably released- no problem. She's the only one I've heard of out of the new wave. I had two female cousins who came home early like 20-25 yrs ago but that was for medical reasons. I know just as many young men who have come home early. Quote

If one enters into the mission field and their head isn't in the game (such as contemplating their relationship with a boyfriend/girlfriend they left behind) it could very well result in an early return home. Guest Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Girls don't have the priesthood responsibility to serve a mission, though, so a sister missionary coming home early to get married isn't at all the same thing as an elder coming home early to get married. I've heard of more guys coming home, but no girls. Then again, I only know one female missionary and she's in fire! Quote
Guest Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Anecdotal, of course, but out of the 4 missionaries we have sent recently, 2 came home early due to medical reasons. Both were in US missions. The other 2 went out a few months ago, one to Brazil, the other somewhere in Africa and they're still healthy. I thought that was quite surprising... P.S. Only the one in Brazil is female. Quote

Bini Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 She was actually engaged before she left.Yeh, probably not the best setup for serving a mission. Quote
classylady Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 None of the sister missionaries from my ward have come home early. Quote
pam Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 I know 4 sister missionaries out right now. They are still out. I know 7 Elders that went out in the last 6 months. One came home for medical reasons. Quote
SpiritDragon Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Well I understand there are a lot of eligible young men returned missionaries that would not complain if a few more sisters were around :) Quote

mirkwood Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 I know of two and a third considering it. The rest seem happy to serve. Quote

slamjet Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 This thread is just screaming for a massageinistic post from someone! Quote
Guest Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 I like a good massage, but I don't know what that has to do with your meme. Quote
slamjet Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Neither do I, but it's almost the end of the day, I still have church meetings tonight and I'm hungry. So I'm a bit punchy right now Quote
