Backroads Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 On Thursday is my in-laws' Christmas party. Everyone is supposed to bring a finger food. All Husband's siblings have hit the most obvious categories (veggies, sausages, dip, taquitos) and we can't think of anything to bring.(Husband wants nothing to do with meatballs)Any ideas? Quote
pam Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 What about a good cheeseball with crackers? Quote
Smudge Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Puff pastry cheese straws - roll out some ready made puff pastry. sprinkle grated cheese on half of it, fold in half, reroll out, sprinke cheese and repeat once more. Brush with either a milk or egg wash and top with some more grated cheese. Cut into strips - and place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake (can't tell you the temp because I am not sure what it is - I just go by what it says on the packaging)Sausage rolls - sausage meet wrapped in puff pastry and cooked for about 20 - mins until golden brown Quote
Smudge Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Sandwiches. cheese and pineapple chunks on cocktail sticks - very 80s but always popular Quote
Backroads Posted December 22, 2013 Author Report Posted December 22, 2013 What about a good cheeseball with crackers?I suggested this, but then realized my mother-in-law has probably already made a bajillion cheeseballs (and she's good at them).Eep! I just might do this! I saw this on Pinterest and then forgot about it! Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Spinach rolls. Spread cream cheese on flour tortillas, then lay down layers of salami and spinach. Roll up into a cylinder, then slice. (Plenty of variants of the recipe online) Quote
bytebear Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I do the mini quiches they sell at Costco. And meatballs are the bomb. I get the frozen packed of them from Costco, add a bunch of bbq sauce and other secret sauces, and crock pot it. Super easy to make, and ALWAYS the hit of the party. Quote
mirkwood Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Stuffed mushrooms. I cook up some sausage, mix it with cream cheese, pull the stem out of the mushroom and put the mixture in and cook on 350 for about 15-20 minutes. Quote
Suzie Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 And meatballs are the bomb. Meatballs should be prohibited by law. Quote
Dravin Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 If you're up for it you could make finger cucumber sandwiches, I know there will be veggies but it's kinda nice to have something light and refreshing at snacky parties. Quote
beefche Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Dravin and I like to go to Sam's club on Saturdays. One reason is for the free tastes they provide. Just last week we tried this one thing that was SO GOOD! It looked simple.Cut up a green pepper (we thought a poblano would be better for a little heat) into 1 inch square. Layer the green pepper, a mini-sausage, a small dollop of cream cheese, and wrap it with bacon. Put a tooth pick through it to keep together (and it's used to serve with). Cook in oven at 350 until bacon is browned.Gotta let it cool before serving as that cheese will burn your mouth. At Sam's, they used a large electric skillet with lid to cook it. Seriously, hands down the best thing I've ever tasted at a grocery store. Here's a recipe I found online that is similar:Bacon Tailgate Recipe: Sausage, Cheese Stuffed Bacon Wrapped Jalapeños Quote
pam Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 One thing I did once were Garlic Chicken Puffs. Easy to make and they were a hit. Quote
Smudge Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 You could do garlic mushrooms - cooked mushrooms in a garlicy breadcrumb crustOr stuffed cherry tomatoes Quote
pam Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 This thread is making me hungry because they all sound good. Quote

pam Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I understand that Eowyn does this wonderful Crown Wiener Roast. You should ask her for the recipe. Quote
Guest Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Meatballs are surprisingly good with sweet chili sauce. We just buy the bagged ones at Costco. They're Italian flavored, but it doesn't seem to get in the way. Quote

pam Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I happen to love meatballs. Especially ones that I make. It's a Lion House recipe. Quote
beefche Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I don't mess with the meatballs. I use those mini sausages, cover them in chili sauce (Heinz sells Chili Sauce), then put in about 1/4 cup of grape jelly. Put all of it in a crock pot and warm them up. Yum! Even my picky Dad likes them. Of course, he made a face when he asked for the recipe. Quote
Suzie Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Is that a crown? They looked like praying sausages to me. Quote
