ldsfamily8 Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 I am a convert of 5 years. I have tried for 4 years to get a temple recommend. The bishop at the time when I joined the church was going to give me my recommend at the one year mark. Then just as we setup the meeting he was released. The new bishop has said another 6 months for that last 4 years, each time giving a different reason or no reason at all. I have done everything the bishop has asked, and still he refuses to give me one. He told me that it would be on him at judgement, if he let me go not feeling I am ready to understand the sacredness of the temple. This I find odd because if I go to the temple not ready, thats on me. I feel that is between me and Heavenly Father. I can honestly ansewer yes to everyone of the temple recommend questions. I serve diligantly in my calling, attend church regularly, and pay my tithing, teach the gosple in my home, ect. I have felt so torn about this. I have prayed, fasted, and studied the scriptures looking for answers. I want to be sealed to my wife and children. This is the goal I have set and seam to not be able to achive. I feel like I'm hitting my head on a brick wall. My wife said to drive to the temple to go to the grounds just to feel the spirit of the temple. I was prompted to pray many times to pray while at the temple. The feeling was overwhelming that, that was the place I needed to be. So I am trying to do what he said, but feel in that time I will be refused again. Any suggestions? Thank You. Quote

If you don't agree with your Bishop and feel you have done everything he has asked, then you can go up the ladder and meet with your Stake President. Crypto, NightSG, Vort and 1 other 4 Quote
Pa Pa Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 The Bishop is a (the) common Judge in Israel, so I guess he has his reasons. Has he not told you why? Either way this is something better dealt with your Bishop and Stake Presidency, not on the Internet. You call though if you wish to continue it. Just_A_Guy and Jane_Doe 2 Quote
FunkyTown Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 If you feel he's being unfair, definitely talk to the Stake President. If you feel he's not, then maybe you need to make some changes in your life. NightSG 1 Quote

NeuroTypical Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 Why Can't I Go To The Temple...The new bishop has said another 6 months for that last 4 years, each time giving a different reason or no reason at all. I have done everything the bishop has asked, and still he refuses to give me one. He told me that it would be on him at judgement, if he let me go not feeling I am ready to understand the sacredness of the temple. This I find odd because if I go to the temple not ready, thats on me. Sounds like you answered your own question. Sounds like your bishop has been perfectly frank and candid about his reasoning about why he's not giving you a TR interview. Sounds like you just disagree with your bishop. Perhaps a better name for this thread should be "I disagree with my bishop - help me get to the temple"? Quote
NightSG Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 Sounds like you answered your own question. Sounds like your bishop has been perfectly frank and candid about his reasoning about why he's not giving you a TR interview. Sounds like you just disagree with your bishop. Not really; a different reason each time sounds like there's some underlying reason he doesn't want to spell out, so he's coming up with others to avoid having to confront that one. If there's something outside the exact recommend questions that the bishop feels is that much of a problem, he needs to get it on the table and deal with it. If the OP is able to answer all the questions appropriately, whatever else is in the way is the sort of thing that needs to be discussed in detail. Really, only the last couple of questions (misdeeds that need to be dealt with, and do you feel worthy) are vague enough to require any discussion; all the others are straight up yes/no, no shades of gray questions. NeuroTypical Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 I'm wondering, ldsfamily8, if in fact you do know the bishops reasons or you don't. Do you know why two bishops in a row now, feel you are not "ready to understand the sacredness of the temple"? NightSG is correct - if they haven't told you why they feel that way, they should spell it out. It's just that your visit here wouldn't be the first visit from someone who has all the facts, just disagrees with them. Quote
pkstpaul Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 5 years is way too long for a bishop to leave this unresolved. Any good bishop would have created a plan for going to the temple. NightSG 1 Quote
Maureen Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 ...Do you know why two bishops in a row now, feel you are not "ready to understand the sacredness of the temple"?... I think you need to re-read the OP's story. The 1st bishop was planning on giving him his TR at his one year mark. It is the 2nd bishop that has been stalling without giving the OP any legit reason. NightSG Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 Do you know why two bishops in a row now, feel you are not "ready to understand the sacredness of the temple"? The impression I got was that the first bishop didn't see any problem, but was released before the OP had reached the one year mark. Really, I'd be interested to hear what the different reasons the current bishop has given are; often when someone is dancing around an issue, they will skirt it pretty closely from time to time. Palerider Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 I refused to give a Sisrer Her Tempke Rec and she went to our Stake President. He called me and asked why I wouldn't give her one. I told him my reason why and the following Sunday he met with this Sister. They talked for awhile and after that meeting it was three months to the day I signed her Tempke Rec. NeuroTypical 1 Quote
