jerome1232 Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Anyway, I found I was much more fascinated by the GURPS system of leveling up individual skills and attributes based on usage rather than the hack and slash grind to level up and mysteriously become better at everything - especially things you're character's never done. I also like the added realism of not increasing HP. I mean when your character gets stabbed through heart while sleeping he should die, not laugh it off as the dagger only did 12 HP damage against the Level X character with 73 HP. But that's just me, I did enjoy D&D as well, just once I experienced GURPS there was no going back really. I haven't played GURPS in a decade either though, so there you have it.That sort of stuff I felt is accounted for. HP is just a virtual representation (that is easy to use) of how much better your character has gotten and what once would've taken him in the heart and killed him, he now has the awareness and the ability to inch it over so it misses the heart and only hurts him badly. In most rule sets there's something called a coupe de grace that allows you to instantly kill a helpless character, since you know they are helpless and the hp is meaningless in that situation. Mortal blows are still mortal, you are just much more deft at combat and don't eat fireballs to the face anymore. Edited January 7, 2016 by jerome1232 Quote
Crypto Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 I recently moved and my collection of dice is on a POD somewhere. I'd have to rely on you to roll for me, but I'd love to play. Haven't done so in too darn long. You could always use an online roller, and take a screenshot.Type in your start menu snip, it comes with windows. (I'm assuming windows here) Quote

Haven't done so in too darn long. If you have Microsoft Excel, then you can use the RAND feature to roll for you. Click on a cell and type "=RAND()" in order to get a string of numbers. Go to the next cell and type "[cell with the RAND command] * 100" to get the string as something other than decimals. That last box divided by 5 will give you the same results as rolling a d20, while that last box divided by 25 will give you the same results as rolling a d4. Under the circumstances, I'll accept a d20 roll instead of 3d6 for stats, providing that you remember that 2s, 19s, and 20s don't count. Quote

Guys, if I can't play, can you at least name a character MG for me? Quote
Ironhold Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 So are we doing this thing?I'll give everyone who wants to play a chance to create characters. Once they have their character ready, they'll announce it to my with a post giving the name of their character and a general description. Once I feel I have enough people together for a proper campaign, we'll begin. Quote

Ironhold Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 Depending upon the make and model of keyboard you're using, your keyboard may have a button that says "PrtSc". This button takes screen caps as well; you just have to open up Paint or another image processor and paste the photo in order to save it. Quote

Guest Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Ug. I hate it when people promote blogs. By the way, have you visited mine yet? Says the guy with his blog address in his sig. Quote
SpiritDragon Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 I must say it sounds like a good time, and I'd like to join - but I'm not up to date with your rules and don't check in often enough so I'd likely slow everyone down. Out of curiosity what would a generic character sheet need on it? ST, DX, INT, CONS, WIS, CHR - HPDo you use saving throws for magic defense? What are the various race and class advantages/disadvantages? Yeah... I'm too far behind already. Crypto 1 Quote
Guest Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 I have to say, this sounds very interesting and I'm looking forward to tagging along... Quote

Ironhold Posted January 9, 2016 Author Report Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) I'll play. I think I will be a half drow half troll. And the backstory that would justify such a character is...? Edit - remember, the rules & whatnot that would allow such things have to be in a book whose name can be mentioned on the forums. Those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, count yourself lucky. Edited January 9, 2016 by Ironhold mirkwood 1 Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 We used to play with the following abilities on Dungeons and Dragons characters: StrengthIntelligenceWisdomConstitutionCharismaComeliness Comeliness was the physical attractiveness of the character. A low comeliness attribute could cause initial negative feelings toward the character but with interaction a decent charisma score would overcome the low comeliness score. I used to like to play Fighter class characters but I think now I prefer a Paladin. Quote

SpiritDragon Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) ********Edited to fit my understanding of what is being asked of us******** I'm a chaotic neutral half elf raised by my human father in a small village in the woods until the age of 12 when he was killed by a plague (disease). I got by by learning a thing or two about sneaking around with nimble fingers if you know what I mean. Using the character generator I found here I created a character with the following:Player SDName John DirksleyRace Half ElfAlignment (chaotic neutral) - Do you want our alignment?Strength 14 Dexterity 14 Constitution 11 Intelligence 16 Wisdom 18 Charisma 13 Money 190 Any how after my father's untimely death I picked up a few more languages as I was chased from place to place (avoiding capture, or escaping from time to time). I can have a remake if needed. Edited January 10, 2016 by SpiritDragon Quote
mirkwood Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 Ok, so be clear on what you want from us as players. Stats, class, race, alignment...after that what? Quote
jerome1232 Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 I would love to play a true neutral half-elf druid, a hunter that lives off of the land. The philosophical type of true neutral that sees good, evil, chaos and law as parts of a whole that must be balanced. He is an explorer who wants to see all he can in the world, and beyond. His goal is to become a powerful druid and explore all of the planes. Quote
