Well-Being Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Dear members of LDS.net, We’re doing an online survey about the experiences of Christians, and we hope you can participate! If you participate, you’ll complete a survey online and be able to enter to win a $15 gift card, and we are giving out 35 gift cards. Christians are a very under-studied group, and we’d love to hear from members your group. You can participate if you are an adult, living in the United States, and identify as a Christian (all denominations are welcome!). The web site for the study is: http://tinyurl.com/ChristianStressStudy Please note that we want to be clear that the purpose of this research is NOT to portray Christians in any negative light, whatsoever! We are interested in the daily stress experienced by Christians and factors such as whether they feel they can be open about their faith at work. Very little research has examined the experiences of Christians in this regard. Please feel free to contact the study principal investigator, Dr. Mike Parent, directly at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns at all about this study. This study is being conducted by Dr. Mike Parent (Texas Tech University), Dr. Melanie Brewster (Teacher’s College), and Dr. Stephen Cook (Hardin-Simmons University). This study was approved by the Texas Tech Institutional Review Board, and posting this link was approved by your group moderator (Thank you!). Thank you! prisonchaplain Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 I took the survey. It seems to be a legitimate, university-based research project. Jane_Doe 1 Quote
unixknight Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 It doesn't take long at all. Worth the time, especially for opinionated folks like me... Quote
NeuroTypical Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Survey all taken. If you don't win the gift card, will you consider it an act of justice from a vengeful God? Disagree, Slightly Disagree, Slightly Agree,Agree. LiveTheGospel, Sunday21, zil and 1 other 4 Quote
prisonchaplain Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 If I don't win the card it's because of the secular school's prejudice and discrimination against Pentecostal-Assemblies of God-Evangelicals. Sunday21 and unixknight 2 Quote
Guest Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 (edited) I din't quite know how to handle the drug/alcohol questions. Quote Do you feel like you need to reduce your drug and alcohol use? That's a bit like Quote So, have you stopped beating your wife? I guess it really didn't even consider Mormons at all. One wonders why they chose to come to this site or how much they know about Mormons to include that in the survey and then come here asking us to participate. Edited August 26, 2016 by Guest Quote

When you take these tests remember there is a TON of gray. It's like a lie detector test that asks "Have you ever broken a law?" Well 99.9% of us have. Speeding, jay walking, etc. So don't take it too seriously. Quote
Traveler Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 Can someone take the test without the threat of receiving a "gift" card? Oh the stress!!! The Traveler LiveTheGospel 1 Quote
NeuroTypical Posted August 26, 2016 Report Posted August 26, 2016 Yes. You just don't give them your email address at the end of the survey. No email provided, no chance of winning the giftcard. In fact, for every person similarly stressed who does not provide their email, my chances of winning do not decrease! Hail stress! LiveTheGospel and Sunday21 2 Quote

The motivation behind such feeling is irrelevant to the study. Quote
bytebear Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 They need to distinguish between real life and online. Online I think can be brutal on attacks, but I don't consider that a real indication of christian/non-christian relations.. Quote

I think the questions are meant to be very general, about the culture we now live in. I think where the difference matters, they're fairly clear, like the questions that are specifically about the work/school environment, or with friends. Quote
Well-Being Posted September 6, 2016 Author Report Posted September 6, 2016 Thank you all for your participation and your feedback! We agree that not all of the questions may be optimal or applicable to all Christians. The survey is open to all denominations, so there may be some questions that do not feel applicable to you. Also, the measures have been used a lot in research before, so we need to use the same surveys to make sure our results are directly comparable to other studies. We will continue to consider your feedback as we continue in this line of work as well. Thank you! Quote
