I find this statistic shocking simply because most offices have filters.  And if you're accessing it at work, that is just plain messed up.

I would think if they view it on their phone, but while at work, they probably counted that as viewing at work.

The second bullet point???  I'm not sure.  I'd certainly like to think that our numbers would be at least somewhat better than society as a whole simply because there is a HUGE portion of society that doesn't believe it is wrong.  Not "Any different"?  I find that difficult to believe.  Where did that quote come from anyway?  There's no link, reference, or footnote.

I would like to think so too.  Apparently, from what I have been informed, pornography is rampant in my ward, and there is supposedly unexpectedly high usage among the sisters.  EDIT:  There is link below both bullets, the quote is from that same link.

I don't find it shocking at all.  I can only speak for my circles, but people I know don't view porn in the same light as Mormons.  To them it's just not a big deal.

I'm not sure if I follow your logic.  You're saying that because they don't consider it a big deal, they just don't see view pornography?  One would think that if you don't believe it is wrong, then the tendency would be to indulge in it.  Men are simply designed to respond to visual stimuli -- much more than females.  It would seem that unless there was someone saying,"hey you shouldn't do that", then they'd simply go along with instincts -- and societal norms, which I see as becoming more and more sexualized.

Are you saying that many men don't have that instinct simply because they're NOT told to avoid it?

Define "rampant".  To some, three or four out of 30 is "rampant".

I can second that.  Unless there is a true addiction involved, most other people don't seem to see it as a problem.  I've never understood why, but I suppose there's just not enough education from parents and society at large that it's wrong.  I mean, how many people out there claim to be Christian and yet don't seem to have any problem with pre-marital sexual relations.

I laugh when I think about people I know who have talked about how Mormons believe in a false Jesus and are not Christians, and then with the same mouth talk about engaging in porn viewing and other sexual activities with their boyfriend/girlfriend.  Seems like they don't know Jesus very well to me.

Honestly, I don't know, that's just how it was told to me.  I would imagine it means between 30-40%, possibly more, having an issue that needs to be overcome.

I'm not saying that at all.  I'm saying YOU find it shocking because it's taboo to you.   I don't find it shocking at all, because I'm around discussion of it all the time.

I remember my astronomy teacher at BYU always ended his lectures by saying, no matter what we were talking about, "Remember don't look at the sun."

Eh, don't feel bad. When I was in pilot training my instructors always said, "Remember kids-don't jump out of a plane at 30,000 feet without a parachute.:"

PS - just wanted to say sorry to @LiterateParakeet (and anyone else) for making you upset earlier on the discussion on obesity.  Wasn't trying to get under your skin, and my intent wasn't to be mean.  Mostly I like discussing various topics of the gospel and reading others' opinions.

As for the obesity discussion, I primarily became interested in how we as members can interpret something differently that seems to be straightforward to me. It's very interesting how we have access to the same material, but yet still have various opinions. But it's also that diverse perspective I enjoy.  I've had a lot of questions for so long without ever having a chance to discuss them with others.  My friends and family never liked talking about gospel related questions so I was left with no good discussion or improvement of my own religious thoughts by comparing notes with peers.

So anyway, I know some feathers were ruffled eariler, and again, I'm sorry for upsetting you especially considering this is a personal struggle for you.  I hope you know my posts weren't meant to be cruel or inconsiderate (except maybe that one to @MormonGator, only because his opinions never make sense to me).  Anyway, I enjoy reading your other posts and hope you don't hold this one against me!

Does this really surprise you?  Truthfully?  There is so much diversity in human thought and behavior on this planet that to find similar diversity within the Church does not seem like it ought to surprise anyone.

I think we both know that some people lack the imagination needed to understand any point of view other than their own.

Of course there's diversity out there, but when it's something that seems straightforward to you (treat your body as a temple), it's all the more surprising when you read different interpretations as to what that means - especially when it's members in your own church who you thought you were on the same wavelength with

This did truthfully surprise me. Now when it comes to other topics I've posted on and people voice differing opinions, I'm not so much surprised there. But this particularly topic, yes, I was surprised. Especially how much out of context it became in relation to the original intent of discussing it

Again, I do not understand your surprise.  Does one really have to be 50 years old before they've been exposed to enough diversity to recognize that everyone sees things differently, everyone has their own doubts and struggles, Satan is powerful indeed and deceives us in unique ways, etc., etc.  In other words, you don't have to live and observe for all that long before you realize that what's obvious or important to you is not always obvious or important to others.

Take for example, the accelerator pedal.  I happen to know that it's the pedal on the right and that the harder you push it, the faster the car goes.  Others don't seem to grasp this fact.  It's been a long time since that surprised me.
