I have head of some pilot programs in Idaho and Florida doing a one hour church meeting.  I have also heard of my area having a special conference in May, although it could be for any number of reasons.  Does anyone in Idaho or Florida know of these pilot programs?  I have heard that if we went to a one hour church, we would have both a sacrament meeting and another meeting, probably alternating on the second meeting every other week, as they do with our current 2 hour church.  I have heard it may be to help us be even more family centered and preparing for what is to come.  But does anyone have any information?  And when  anf if it might happen?

I doubt this will ever happen. But if it were to happen, here's how it could be done.

1. We will never omit the ordinance of the sacrament, relegating it to every two weeks.
2. We could have a shortened meeting for the sacrament and announcements.  No talks or intermediate hymns, etc.
3. We would have an abbreviated meeting covering what has been second hour.

I keep hearing about such things too, but when asked for specifics, they are not forthcoming.  I'm really hesitant to give the notion much serious thought until someone can provide a little substantiation.  Which wards?  How many?  When did the pilot program start?

The only specifics I ever heard were about one particular stake that had at least some wards meeting for one hour as a temporary thing while a building was being renovated.

I have heard through the grapevine of at least one stake here in AZ with one hour meetings but it's also an area with historical logistical problems (too many members moving there to keep up with buildings) so I guess that's not very good proof of anything.

As I said in another thread, I'm still adjusting to other changes they've already made!

If they went to 1 hour church, the best solution would be to change it back to what it used to be.  Sacrament was an hour or more on it's own.  That was one meeting.  You only had to go to that.

They did not have the block (no 3 hour block, no 2 hour block).  It was just Sacrament.  Sunday School was another time entirely (and so was Priesthood).  They also had sacrament during Sunday School (depending on ward and location).

I'd be in favor of that type of One Hour Church, where it was just Sacrament, and then they had other meetings at other times.

I don't think that's what people are meaning though.  I think it's more as what posters have said above where it relegates the Sacrament Meeting to 1/2 an hour or so, and the other half an hour is the other meetings.

That's too short for my liking, but it's not what I prefer, it's what the Lord prefers.
