  1. This is me pretty recently. The missionaries in my ward really had no idea, but they did ask me to give people rides places, and that ended up leading to a ton of good for me. One of the reasons for that was feeling legitimately helpful to people. If there's something you genuinely need help with, asking a struggling friend for help with it could do them a lot of good. I'm not going to say it's the case for everyone 100% of the time, but it absolutely was for me.

  2. Stript, wounded, beaten nigh to death, I found him by the highway side. I roused his pulse, brought back his breath, Revived his spirit, and supplied Wine, oil, refreshment—he was healed. I had myself a wound concealed, But from that hour forgot the smart, And peace bound up my broken heart.

  4. So close. I was in a meeting. I pulled up the score and saw that the Gators were up by 1 with about 2 minutes to go and was impressed with the comeback. Then I saw the final score. 😟 That's why we play the games. I hope BYU can win at least one game in the NCAA tournament. 🤞

  5. There seems to be some progress with this young lady that I've been trying to help. I've convinced her to setup a retirement account even on her meager income. With what we've been able to work out, she makes less than $15k/yr. But she can retire a millionaire. And she's agreed to have a limited access account for savings (she doesn't have enough self-control when it is just sitting in her checking account) so she can build up an emergency fund instead of spending it all. I hope this works out well. She did tell me something rather appreciative that made me feel good. When setting up the limited access account, I recognized that many people in her life had betrayed her, especially financially. I explained that if she were to have a savings in a limited access account, she needed someone to watch over it. I asked if there is anyone who she absolutely trusts. She just stared at me with a slight smile and pointed with her arms at my family... So, I'll be the watchdog over her savings. She also happened to say something else (completely unprompted). She has called my wife "Mom" for a while now. But she never called me "Dad." She explained that her father and stepfather were (not good men) and she simply never associated "Dad/father" with anything positive. So, she never wanted to give me that label. But she did say that I'm the person that she turns to when she needs a life coach. And I'm the one that she wants to be proud of her. Since then, I've been trying to give her what compliments I can for having achieved goals. Baby-steps.

I was recently watching a podcast with Don Bradley (sorry, I’ve forgotten the link) where he mentioned in passing that the small plates may not have been physically attached to Mormon’s/Moroni’s record. Bradley also suggests that after the 116 pages fiasco, Joseph and Emma (and then Oliver) continued where Joseph and Martin Harris had left off; and finished through to the end of Moroni before leaving Emma’s parents’ farm in Harmony. If both of those are true, then Joseph doesn’t actually need Mormon’s plates anymore when he leaves Harmony; all he’s going to need are the detached, small plates of Nephi. And there’s something very poetic to me about the possibility that Nephi, himself a resurrected being, had a council with Moroni and said “my umpteen- great- great grandson, you’ve done so well taking care of your part of the record. Now let me take care of my part of the record.” Maybe it was Nephi himself who transported his own small plates from Harmony to Fayette, and later showed them to Mary Whitmer.
