My seminary teacher told the story of when he was maybe heading out on his mission. He was so excited and gung ho. He got to talking to a guy in the next seat and telling him about the church. The guy was interested so he told him that he could be with his family forever. The guy was no longer interested. Of course this seminary teacher was the same guy who decided to teach his kids about the evils of gambling since they were going through LV. He got out a quarter, showed it to his kids and then told them. "I am going to go in there and you can see what happens when you gamble." Of course he came back with a huge hand full of quarters. :) Then there was the time he was desperately looking for a motel room very late at night and saw the really nice looking Lavender Motel in Oakland but that story can wait for another day. :)

I am just grateful my daughter flew home this last week to Texas and isnt going back there. Good timing in my opinion. The surprising thing to me is that with their new leader who had every indication of being more sane that his dad, N. Korea isnt following a more rational public image. Makes me wonder if there isnt a power struggle and he is losing.

Sorry Eowyn, I had to run to town to clean out the car my son wrecked this morning. But ok. Chavez was elected, whether fairly or not is probably in doubt. Some people did like him. I think he is detestable if only for the way he tried to get publicity by taunting the US. He played the David against Goliath card quite often and it no doubt got him support.

I am surprised, ClassyLady. Oh well if they dont ask you then no wonder they dont ask me! lol.

I only know what you say here. You expressed doubt as to whether voting makes any difference so I am taking you at your word.

I dont know. I feel like some of us are invisible and others are visible. We have only been in one ward that we were actually seen. Not surprisingly it was a wonderful ward and people were very close. I am sure they thought we were nuts but they gave us jobs and we were even asked to speak. It never happened before and never happened again. Maybe its just part of our trial here on earth. Just remember God loves you and sees you even if no one else does!

What? I have a feeling you have misread something somewhere. Chavez did have elections but I was not talking about him or his country. Since you have brought it up though, I do feel if people do not like their government they should change it. It is not our responsibility to do that for them. It would be very hard to do in some areas but real change has to come from inside.

Matthew why are you posting personal information on this public forum? No I am not going to call you. I do not know you and its dangerous to respond to this kind of thing or to post your information.

Graft is illegal. That is a big problem. Immoral needs to be changed so change it. Elect people that you believe will enact moral laws. My 'argument' in no way encourages illegal and immoral acts unless you believe the system we use of electing officials is a bad one. It does encourage public participation in telling our politicians what they need to do.

Eowyn, its not here. Theres a lot of disagreement here on politics but I dont ever remember anyone here calling me evil. It does happen frequently however even by family members. Anyway no I do not mean here and I am sorry I didnt make that clear.

All taxes are given for the welfare of the US in some way or other. They may not be used how you would personally use them but they are used in the ways the people we have voted to represent us have chosen. Dont like the way they chose then pick other representatives or run yourself.

Hmm so how does scouts teach survival skills if they cant learn to make heating and cooking facilities?

Hoosier does not really help the ideas of liberalism but to say he should consider leaving is defeating a basic concept of how our society works. We need ideas from many different viewpoints to be successful. When we limit the ideas people have to only the ones we agree with then we become less than a free society. I do not like Chavez. He did much evil in the world. Still people have the right to live here and think he was wonderful. What we should do is listen and see if there is any value in what people say. I get so tired of being told I am evil because I am not conservative in many things. Sometimes I get angry and strike back at those who hold me in less than high esteem because of our differences in opinion. I often feel like putting on armor and building protective defensive walls around myself. It is not a good thing. When I do this I stop listening and I stop expressing myself. None of us have perfect views on issues or how things should be accomplished. By talking with each other and respecting each others ideas we can be more perfect. I notice Hoosier likes to stir up arguments by taking far left views and denigrating anyone not in his corner. On the other hand he gets lots of people who are willing to do the same to him. Neither is the answer.
