Does Halloween tell us anything about ourselves?
talisyn replied to Traveler's topic in General Discussion
That you're probably going to be making tons of money in the next 10 years I always dress up as a witch for Halloween. Not because I want to have tons of magical powers and make people do my bidding...oh wait... -
I'm sorry you're in this situation. I'd go sit my butt down in that class with my daughter when not teaching because the 'naughty chair' and stuff isn't only happening to her. While you're in the class your child and the others have some measure of protection. Just have a huge smile on your face and be the most cheerful and kind person in the room, that usually drives people nuts.

I've read a few statements from Gov. Perry, and it seems to me this is a man who wouldn't even consider the idea of a death row inmate might not be guilty. He knows he's in the right, and that's that. Doesn't give me much hope that he even looked at the new evidence.

Yeah, major companies get tax breaks on the assumption that the money not spent on taxes would instead be used for either hiring more people or giving current employees larger paychecks, thus contributing to the community anyways. Funny how that doesn't seem to work so well.

neat idea! thank you!

I totally trust my child of course. But she's just so cute and clever I would love to read what's going through her mind. It's funny how someone I gave birth to and raised almost all by myself can have so many ideas that I never thought of

I'm totally on board with this one. Where's my bailout?

NO WAY!!!! That's just plain cool

I changed my mind. I like the cat/woman on Bleach better now

Don't worry, you aren't alone. My school district is considering uniforms and I plan to make my opposition heard

She's 10 years old. Kids are funny at that age aren't they? At once eager to declare they need antiperspirant and hiding little crushes. I think that's the golden age of childhood.

Modesty - A question in child rearing and clothing
talisyn replied to SeattleTruthSeeker's topic in Parenting
Congrats on the new addition! Yes I agree it is important to teach modesty. However, it is important also to teach kids that just because something has sleeves doesn't mean it's good to wear. My daughter has a lengthy body so the only modest swimsuit she's been able to wear is a tankini. I've also allowed her to wear tank tops when she was little and over teeshirts now that she's older. Kids can understand that what was ok for a little kid may not be for a bigger one. They are usually so eager to be adults that they have no problem dressing to adult standards. Sadly, in some families that means baby thongs and padded training bras. Padded baby bras!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it when I saw that at Wal-Mart. Of course my daughter wanted the super-sized one until I let her try it on (ok I admit it, I was in the mood for a good laugh). Out of her own volition she went and chose one that was much much smaller. Yet when she puts it on she looks like a pair of submarines ready for war (I swear it looked much better in the store). Totally of her own free will that particular undergarment hasn't seen the light of day in months. Like I said, kids are capable of choosing the right when they have the way pointed out for them -
My daughter has reached that quiet, contemplative, and secret age. And I'm just dying with both laughter and curiosity. She has a journal that says in big bold letters 'DIARY, Property of Genie K., KEEP OUT!!!!!!!!!' that she will write in every so often in the living room, and then casually leave on the table or couch. I'm sure it's simply carelessness, pretty sure she doesn't do it to test or torment me, but I really really really want to know what's inside! So far I've been able to resist (being asleep during the day helps lol). But I would like to know how others deal with similar situations. Any help?

Goth is for those who don't have the moxie to throw trash cans and bricks through bank windows Unless it's my daughter, then it's adorable. That pix though..it's a glimpse into the future where all the poked and tattooed 20 and 30 year olds are getting medicare.

Yes, obviously Illinois politics is so far-reaching that they got a bunch of eggheads in Sweden to vote for their guy. I can see so clearly now

Now that was a heart warming story

My very very non-Mormon ex mom-in-law sent that story to me via email, so it's not just gullible Mos that pass it around

I disagree, it looks just as bad on the skinny girls as on the chubby ones

What would you like to do to earn the Nobel Peace Prize?
talisyn replied to BenRaines's topic in Current Events
hmmmm...I would like to bring together people from various walks of life and have them come up with a way to combine capitalism and universal health care. Nobel peace prize heck, that would be worthy of translation. -
Is this the same plan that our favorite LDS Rep. presidential candidate set up when he was gov. over there?

Why are you so obsessed with koolade? Did someone try to drown you in a pitcher of it when you were a kid? You seem to be very set against the sugary drink for some reason.
