The Miracle of the Gulls - Faith Promoting or Fiction
talisyn replied to Snow's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Terry Pratchett once said something like miracles are a matter of timing, to which I would add also point of view. Was the parting of the Red Sea a miracle to the Israelites? Yes. Was it a miracle to the Egyptians? I doubt it. Were the seagulls answer to the pioneers prayers? Yes. The crickets prayers? Not so much. The seagulls didn't have to be in the area to eat those crickets, by that time they were probably good and wary of the pioneers. I bet there were plenty of crickets on the other side of the valley. I say it's a miracle -

Just struck me as odd that while there are very many things we could discuss about the USA Sect. of State her menopausal weight gain seemed to be the hot topic. Sorry that you happened to be the one quoted So here is a woman who is in a very stressful sit. of trying to be polite to people who while maybe not advocating but certainly not doing anything about systematic rape of women and young girls and the other crime of conscripting children for soldiers in neighboring countries. She gets a question about her former USA president husband who pulled off a great diplomatic rescue of journalists from N. Korea just a few days earlier. Translation error maybe, but she has to answer the question as put to her. She makes a joke about 'channeling' her husband and instead channels her inner school teacher. I really don't think it's as big a deal as those who hate everything Clinton are making it out to be. mmm doughnuts...

Strong Meteor Shower Tuesday and Wednesday night!
talisyn replied to begood2's topic in General Discussion
My daughter and I stayed up until about 1am and saw a goodly number of shooting starts, well worth the effort. The mommy-daughter time was an added bonus since no one else wanted to come out with us I can't wait 'til the next one, umm Leonids I think, right? -
Well, if it ain't broke don't fix it

I live in Idaho, I qualified for nothing. Seriously. And there are a lot of people in that situation, either they don't have any kids or not enough (me) to qualify for various programs. The world is a scary place when you don't have a way to protect yourself. I wonder if that's why Pres. Obama is so keen on universal health care. His g.parents may have been comfortable but his mom wasn't when she was taking him all over the world. Kids remember when their parents cannot afford things like medicine Back to topic....Canada healthcare rocks. But I am reminded of a Monty Python skit where they are all in a hospital in England waiting to be seen when a private patient comes in and it was like a visit from royalty. I pay $3000/year insurance premiums and get 1 dr. visit co-pay of 20% per year, any other visit is coming totally out of my wallet. I cannot imagine how Pres. Obama's healthcare plan could possibly be worse.

So what I get from this is when I worked for Wal-Mart I had the option of spending 1/2 my take-home pay on insurance for my daughter and myself, leaving $200/month for rent/car/utilities? I guess I did have that option....

There was a fire today about 1 mile north of my uncle's house, 1 1/2 miles from my gramma's house. I saw it start as I was driving to my mom's house today. I wasn't too worried until I saw actual (huge) flames but the BLM guys got the helicopters and 3 trucks to put it out. It was on the side of a very steep hill/cliff so I was really impressed they got it out so fast GL with your fires, the firefighters are the best.

If she can she should get another pc for business and other important stuff while her original pc is getting fixed.

Considering all the stuff I've told my nephews about the nature of the universe I can totally see this happening.

Wow I never heard about that theory of the Earth's creation! I love my fellow humans and their ability to reason out just about anything to a multitude of conclusions

A Curious Observation: Different sites, Different Attitudes
talisyn replied to Janice's topic in General Discussion
You know, sometimes they really are wrong. I spend a fair amount of time on another lds site which is great fun with all the discussions and references flying around like hyper winged-monkeys, and I have to say there is a whole spirit of peace and tranquility here that is missing from the other board. I've looked at the Feminist Mormon Housewives site and a few others and maybe I went at the wrong time but all I found was a bunch of people saying pretty much the same thing (it was during the prop 8 debate so you can imagine), like PC 'intellectual' Mormons. What I object to in places like that is the pervasive feeling that there is a lot of wink-winking and nodding going on behind the backs of the literal-flood, GA-as-spiritual-guides, Joseph Smith-knew-what-he-was-doing-with-polygamy, minded people. I apologize if I am rambling, I haven't slept in about 22 hours, yay cherry coke -
Couldn't she change her passwords using the onscreen keyboard? Totally bypasses any keylogger. It doesn't totally solve the problem if it's a nasty trojan but if it's just the guy using a password then she should be good

One of the best things you will be able to do for your son is let him say "I can't, my mom won't let me/kill me/ground me". Sometimes I hear my daughter say that to her friends when she doesn't want to do something and it just thrills me to be the bad guy

I remember when my daughter slept through the night all by herself the first time, about 2 am I woke up in a cold sweat absolutely certain something horrible happened to her...she was sound asleep and I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night >< Congrats on finding the right motivation for your 4 yr old! I am a firm believer in appropriate bribery

This would have been a lot more convincing with Cheney instead of Obama
