I say 'oh my goish'. I don't know what my goish is, but it gets pained when I see something really dumb. So I'm not taking the Lord's name in vain It is a good question though. I've been reading 'The Witch of Blackbird Pond' to my daughter and last night we got to the part where Kit's uncle uses the Lord's name. She literally gasped when I said what he said, so I explained that the uncle was saying it in thanks, not as a curse. Good teaching moment

There were more than enough Mormons willing to accept a fatwah. Porter Rockwell would be proud lol.

TY Maxel, I read the speech yesterday and told her it would be really good. What burns me is she didn't get the chance. So..it might be a little late but tomorrow I'm calling up the school and asking why she didn't get to listen to the President of these United States give a speech where he talked directly to her and her peers
-
My daughter did not get to hear the president. Foolish me,I didn't call the school and say I was glad of the opportunity, so the one person who did call about the speech and complained kept all the kids from hearing it. I don't know who I'm mad at more, the school for caving to one person or me for not thinking this would happen.

Ohh you could also covertly record what he says and put it on youtube!

UN wants new global currency to replace dollar
talisyn replied to bytor2112's topic in Current Events
Considering the USA still uses Imperial measurements while the rest of the world uses metric I really don't see a universal currency affecting us over here...besides, we all know if there's gonna be a rising new star in the financial world it'll be the Chinese money. -
From the article Doesn't that kind've take away the whole idea of the book?
-
Have you tried to get kids off the video games? It's like they're wired like Neo. Don't get me started on homework. Trust me, Maxel, the tasks listed for parents are not small, nor insignificant!

Haha sure. Don't you hate the feeling that your vote doesn't count?

Two wrongs do not make a right. I was very clear to my daughter that both Democrats and Republicans love their country but they have different ways of making things better. Living in Idaho she has plenty of opportunity to see Reps in action, and has learned that even though they may vote different from her mom we all can still be friends. I wish others would do the same.... Wow that makes me sound like Mary Poppins. Disclaimer: I am not a perfect mom though I do have moments of brilliance

An interesting graphic on unemployment . . .
talisyn replied to Just_A_Guy's topic in Current Events
So what were the numbers if Pres. Bush II hadn't signed off on the first stimulus bill? Remember that one? The one where the economy was tanking even before Pres. Obama ran for office? The economy did not magically crash when Obama took office, this had been going on for years. My fellow workers and I did a lot of discussing when the economy started tanking (mostly, are people gonna be able to buy french fries?) and we figured if the stimulus bill, instead of giving money to banks and whatnot, gave $10,000 to every single US citizen the economy would have been back on track before January. People would have caught up on mortgages, they would have bought cars...Give money to people who don't make political contributions? Yeah, like that would ever happen -
I wrote my last post late last night and apologize for unnecessary roughness But...I am tired of it all. The people here are great with reasoned discussion, and I love that. But it seems like when I listen to the people on TV they hit, and get hit back a little harder, so they hit back a little harder, and pretty soon what was mere poking becomes kidney shots. We have people calling for revolution when all that happened is what's been happening since the US because a nation, giving others opportunity to make this nation greater. It may not be your path to greatness, but your path is not everyone's path, either. This country is strong, precisely for the reason Glen Beck and Hannity are screaming about. Every 4 years we have a revolution, thank God Almighty for His wisdom. We had in the last 20+ years a Republican president for 4 years, a Democratic president for 8 years, a Republican president for 8 years, and will have a Democratic president for at least 4 years (lol hopefully 8 years). It's all good, it will be good, and it will be even better if people eat more french fries (small plug for my place of work). I couldn't resist...we've had Republican presidents for about 25 years of the last 37 years...just wanted to bring up the idea that one party as president all the time might not be a good thing....

This is so pathetic, I've stopped reading any of the news outlets. My daughter is excited to hear the president she's wanted in office since January of last year. Did I tell anyone she's the only person in her class to vote for Obama in the school mock-election last November? It's a good opportunity for parents to discuss the nature of politics and how someone can be a good person even if you don't like their policies. People, CHILL. Our freedoms will not end Tuesday because of a speech by our president. They will end, however, if this irresponsible behavior by adults who should know better continues. Remember what happened to all those really great homeland security policies the Bush administration put into place, and remember the sheer panic by the right when Obama won the election? Right-wingers with guns at townhalls is scary enough. What happens when the Left decides they need guns too? Goose meet gander.

I miss him, too. He reminded me of my grandpa, while Pres. Monson reminds me of my dad

Top Ten Ways some General Authorities would eat a Reese's PB cup

This is so irreverent....but anything with J. Golden Kimball rocks -
Because it was spelled 'mormonapoiogetics' on the webpage. With an 'I'. Tell me that isn't the work of an anti-mormon I checked it again. It still has an 'I'. And then I cleaned my computer screen....dang.

Here in the real universe, the one where the stimulus package did go through, we like to speculate but with the understanding that no one knows what would have happened. It may be that if the stimulus package did not go through a vast space-time warp would have sucked away all of the currency on the planet. Betcha I could even find some statistics and make a pie chart, too. -
President Obama is also a dad with 2 daughters he obviously adores. He has also had an upbringing and yes, his community activism, that has shown him the value of education. It may be that his speech Tuesday is not for any of us, but for those children who will be inspired to stay in school and take a good look at maybe running for an elected office, especially those who never even thought they could. Think of this...Pres. Obama did not come from a rich family, he did not come from a well-connected family. But he became president of the most powerful country on earth. If he did it, then so can more than a few children that will listen to him speak next Tuesday.

I missed the game BYU was suppose to lose by 25 points and won by 1??? Sometimes earning a paycheck just isn't worth it
-
Well on the plus side you can come here, it's nicer anyways But I understand your concern. If they've been hacked cause of content then so can this site.

Pres. Obama's speech to kids on Tuesday is why I voted for the man. This is a person who cares about people and wants them to succeed. He has ideas that he thinks will help. They may not be Republican ideas, but he's the president so he gets to say them

Oh that's rough, Maxel. I know how hard it is to deal with clutter, I have a livingroom filled with cool things and no where to put them, because trailers are obnoxious that way Also, clutter can make you so tired just looking at it. Your spirit wants to be free yet it cannot right now. You might try to get your mom to do what I did, I went out and bought a bunch of storage totes for my stuff. They may be all over the place, but by gum it's organized! How would your mom feel about a few sessions with someone trained in dealing with past issues? And if you don't feel like cleaning your mom's house right now wanna help with mine? I'll give you a cookie
-
Ohh in a few short hours you will be completely sin-free, awesome! And most importantly, Welcome

For a while there I was tempted to vote Libertarian just in protest against the likes of Janeane Garofalo. It passed. I still want to hit her, though.
