  1. That right there needs to change. These are people who have spent decades being fawned over and petted by lobbyists, and have come to think this is what American people want. Get rid of the seniority system, give chairmanships and seats by random lottery, and offer the same health care/pension to all citizens that they, our public servants, enjoy. They write laws..big wow. Put them on an HMO.
  2. It is true, there is new info not available during the trial. However, there was much more during the appeals process. Most of the people in a position to help Mr. Willingham didn't even bother to read the info
  3. Fair warning, it's 17 pages long. But you learn a lot about how fire spreads and how things that were accepted have been proven false I also found this out
  4. My daughter likes goth stuff, Maxel, and while she may be a heathen at times at least she is an LDS heathen You'll be fine, daenvgiell. Maxel has good advice, even if he does have floppy ears.
  5. And without healthcare reform as well.
  6. I was happily playing on the green spot app in myspace when I saw a comment made by one of my fellow gardeners about a guy named Cameron Todd Willingham. Ordinarily I pay no attention to anything but feeding the bunnies or the dog or weeding or raking the leaves from the gardens (you get fake money for them ) but for some reason I decided to google him. And wow. Here it is Cameron Todd Willingham, Texas, and the death penalty : The New Yorker My mind is just torn between sorrow and anger. I don't know what to think. This whole story is just Shakespearean tragedy. The New Yorker has never been one of my favorites but I give them credit for their researching. I'm not saying the death penalty is a bad thing. There are more than a few people I can list that seem to deserve it. But, and it's a big one, shouldn't the people who decide these things do a little more than this I hope there was a great reunion with the kids.
  7. How very sad! First thing is your friend's relative will see people who love him, and things go from there. I agree with Ben, and the relative will get the help he needs.
  8. Well yes it was worth the wait. 10 years would have been worth the wait. But a few months would have been better
  9. I love this line daenvgiell, sometimes the Spirit is a whisper, sometimes a yell, and sometimes it's a little nudge in the right direction, which is where your thoughts seem to be in this regard. You have a sense of Eternity and one of the steps to get you there. You are a daughter of God, Creator of worlds beyond measure, and He loves you so much. It seems you are at this point http://www.greenwichworkshopgallery.com/christensen06/images/Christensen%20k.jpg Take the leap of faith and see what happens
  10. *hug* I'm sorry you're feeling lonely, that's never a fun thing. Misshalfway has really good ideas, maybe you're the one that your ward has been waiting for! You don't have to be a 'loser' to talk to your bishop He's there for a very good reason. He can help organize and get you involved with others who may be feeling the same as you. A very wise man said 'be the change you wish to see in the world'. It's tough and probably not fair to a new person like yourself, but you can help others. And I totally agree with Miss: or we'll tell their moms.
  11. awww bmy, we're just trying to help! If your girl is with you on this then go for it, you have a good plan. Background from my point of view-I waited 2 years for my fiance to finish his psych degree in Philly while I was here in Idaho. It was a very very very long 2 years.
  12. bmy, all I'm saying is you're gonna be in debt for a few years at least. Let's say 3 years. That's 1095 days total, not counting a leap year. A lot can happen in over one thousand days. My fiance graduated with over 65K in college debt. If we waited until most of that was paid down I'd be an old woman, and I want babies, darn it! I recommend crunching the numbers again, including her income, and seeing what you come up with.
  13. It means he should have stopped with himself, like countless others who have been abused as children do every day. 6 years seems extreme, especially considering the abused guy could have taken a crow bar to the abuser's head and got the same sentence.
  14. Man jailed for blackmailing pensioner who sexually abused him - Times Online Here's what I totally object to How can a 45 year old man have a “mutual sexual activity” with a 13 year old??? Poor guy! To be blackmailed all these years by someone he sexually abused! The cruelty! The shame! What could the abuse victim possibly have been thinking??? EU people, is this common judicial practice over there? I know we have out share of bad judges in the USA but I can't remember any cases like this.
  15. Wow that cool, Snow. It's a beautiful land with beautiful people. I betcha your son would havehad the whole 'stoic and uninterested' look if he had been sent to Boise, Idaho
  16. The world does not have to know you made a mistake in order for a mistake to be made....if a couple in the woods sin just a little bit and no one is there to hear it is it still a sin? I agree, it is foolish to rush into marriage. Rushing would be what, a 3 or 4 month engagement? Or a 3 year commitment? And you're gonna be under a mountain of debt for the next 5-10 years, which would take your unmarried relationship to 8-13 years without marriage. Church culture hasn't changed much in the past 40 years (back when there was much less divorce)...so think about it a while. Why do you not want to marry this girl? Why are you making excuses? Why are you doing your part in keeping this nice young woman from an eternal companion (hopefully that will be you)? Why is she putting up with this? If the two of you have reached an accord that empowers the both of you then more power to you, stand tall in your unmarried responsible state. But if you are simply in a rut then buy an ATV and see what happens
  17. Congrats, Pam!
  18. Does anyone else think of Elizabeth Smart when they read about this poor woman? I had a good talk with my daughter today about what would happen if anything like this ever happened to her, especially telling her I would never ever stop looking for her and loving her no matter what. I also told her she would need to watch for opportunities to go ninja and escape or ask for help from strangers. That's the part that just kills me, she had opportunities just like Ms. Smart to escape, and was probably so terrified and/or brainwashed she couldn't take advantage of them.
  19. It got people to spend money they otherwise would have held on to. And do you know how many 'foreign' cars are made in America? lol
  20. Considering he died from a brain tumor I can see that. My great-uncle who had one did a lot of funny things before he died.
  21. I remember hearing about this as a child as well. But my thoughts were more like 'I'm never going east.'
  22. I bet he was shocked.
  23. Someone once said something about sin and stonethrowing...
  24. The horns is the only one I've heard. Believe me I was disappointed when my daughter was born and there were no little nubs, that would have been so cool I think the 'tachyon beams' might be because of what Spencer W. Kimball said about interstellar travel and communications. I can't find the quote right now, but basically he said we already have interstellar travel (angels) and communication (prayer). I thought that was awesome.
  25. Not a surprise, but sad nonetheless. The Dems lost a political lion last night.
