  1. You can still get candy cigarettes in the States too. You just have to find the right kind of candy shop. There is one such shop near where I grew up. They still sell: Dots Candy Cigarettes Wax candy (such as wax soda bottles and wax lips) Chocolate Coins As well as many other types of lesser seen candies I loved Dots when I was a kid, even now I still like buying a sheet of them.
  2. The following cartoons: Thundercats He-man Shera Smurfs Snorks Gummi Bears Rescue Rangers Duck Tales Tale Spins I am sure there were lots of others that I am not remembering. Plus lots of other stuff, I am listing only the cartoons right now because that is one of the clear memories from my childhood.
  3. I am sure that repentance can be obtained and forgiveness given sufficent to result in the couple getting permission to be sealed in the temple. But what a terrible way to start a marriage. Not only have they destroyed one or two marriages (depending on the situation), but they never really got away from the adulterous situation as they left their former spouse to marry the person they cheated with. I do wonder what the repentance process would be like for a couple like this. There is a refusal to let go of the affair, it makes me wonder what would be needed to obtain forgiveness sufficent to obtain a temple recommend again. In the end the final judgement comes down to God and we have to trust in him. I just know I would not want to have a marriage that was initially based on the destruction of my previous marriage.
  4. From what I understand the disciplinary counsel is being held for the man who the affair was committed with. Here is what I am gathering from what the OP has posted. ~She had an affair with a man ~She went through her own disciplinary counsel (DC) ~After her DC her bishop contacted the bishop of the man she had the affair with ~His bishop confronted the man about the affair and the man denied it ~The OP's husband contacted the other man's bishop, three other bishops (I am guessing one of them was her bishop) and the stake president over the other man's ward ~Now the Stake President has called a DC for the man and has asked that the OP act as a witness of the affair The OP seems to be worried about whether she will have to be there physically as a witness, and what effect this will have on the family, particularly the wife of the man she had the affair with. Do I have this correct?
  5. This is completely different than a minister making money off his congregation. In those situations the congregation is paying donations to the church which the minister is then using as his income. As for our prophets and other leaders, very often, especially with the prophet and the first presidency they give up their income to serve as leaders of the church. I don't know how book sales go in regards to their income, but I don't think we should worry that they are getting rich off of their books. As for marketing to LDS people, you really only see this happen in the Mormon Corridor (aka Utah and Idaho) outside of those states seeing a CTR ring in a Walmart is unheard of, or if you want to buy a Setters of Zarahemla game you have to special order it or find a rare LDS bookstore. I personally think it is fine. It allows us as a religion to have things that we can relate to. We can play games that remind us of scripture stories, we can wear jewelry that helps us to remember what we should be doing. We can fill our homes with beautiful pictures that really touch on our religion and our beliefs. Sure someone else is making money off of it, but we are the ones buying it, we are the ones telling our friends where we got the new "Who's your hero?" book for our kids. If we don't like it then we don't have to buy it. I have no problem with people making money off of a market that is available, as long as they are doing it legally and are not guilting people into buying the items I think it is just fine.
  6. They could be either, however if she had someone taking pictures of her at work that is a good bit creepy. I am guessing that they are pictures she took after to strengthen her case. The real thing though would be if these pictures are shown in court and the people she is taking her case against say, "Well, that isn't what she was wearing at work." Then we would know that she went out and bought an entirely new wardrobe just to plead a case. If the people say, "Yea, that is what she wore to work every day." Then we know that whether staged or not, that is what she was wearing to work.
  7. They do look staged, but if that is what she normally wears to work then staged or not she should be ok.
  8. If you look through all the pictures you see her in all sorts of "business appropriate" clothing. Most are modest, and most would not be odd to see in an office setting. The outfit she is wearing in the imbeded video is a bit too much for work, but the work photos of her are completely appropriate.
  9. I am also glad to hear that it went well for the both of you. One thing when reading "The Miracle of Forgiveness" read it with an open mind. Some parts of it can be difficult to handle, so keep an open mind when reading. Some advice I have heard is to start from the end and read the last few chapters first and then start at the beginning.
  10. Ah, well if it is a romantic proposal that is a different matter completely! The way my husband proposed to me was quite in depth and is a story we often tell people. However, each person is different and a romantic proposal for one person might not be as romantic for another. I would have to say that my husband's proposal was not so much romantic rather it was a lot of fun and a big surprise.
  11. I agree with the people above. Having met her a few times doesn't mean that he developed an emotional relationship with her. I think it would be much like Mormonmusic says, it would be like a relative that you have maybe met once or twice but don't really know. When they die you don't really feel a loss because you never had an emotional relationship with them. The fact that she is his biological mother doesn't change that.
  12. Yea, too bad he is commuting to work right now. When do you plan to cook these steaks? I could have him hop on the board when he gets to work.
  13. The time frame is usually a year.
  14. Sexual sins are serious sins. Because of this there is more involved in repentance than other sins. Also, if your husband is a return missionary then it means he made certain covenants in the temple not to have sexual relations outside of marriage. A covenant is a promise between him and God, so not a small matter. Because of that he has more to repent of and has the disciplinary counsel. Having gone through a disciplinary counsel myself I can tell you that they are not as bad as what you might be fearing. The disciplinary counsel is actually there to help guide the sinner through the repentance process. Also if your husband is truly repentant there is a small chance that he will be excommunicated. Excommunication usually happens to those people who are unrepentant or who have committed such serious sins that it would be easier for them to repent through excommunication. Chances are, your husband will NOT be excommunicated. It may however take him a year before he can regain his temple recommend. The best thing you can do for him during this time is to be supportive and to help him with his repentance. Encourage church attendance, scripture reading, regular prayers, and a general drawing closer to Jesus and Heavenly Father. It may seem strange that he has to go through all of this, but it is necessary for him to be completely forgiven for his sins. Some sins require a more in depth form of repentance than others.
  15. My husband is the steak expert but I do know he uses a dry rub we get from Aldi. Or rather I think it is a steak herb grinder that we get from there. He also uses butter, lots of butter. Not the most healthy and you also have to be careful as it can start fires but cooking your steak in butter is very tasty. He broils most of our steaks as they end up turning out better than our grilled steaks, our grill kind of sucks.
  16. My idea of a romantic date is different than what it was before, because I am currently married. However, I was married at 22, so my idea of a romantic date was very similar to what it would be now. Going out to eat or eating a home cooked meal with my hubby, possibly going on a walk or to a movie or just spending time hanging out, and then a night spent together. Before marriage though I had a few really fun ones that he took me on. Once in the middle of winter he asked me to dress in a nice church dress. He told me to dress warmly though, so I wore a dress and my long johns. He then took me and another couple out to a local park where we had breakfast cereal by candlelight amidst a snow covered park. It was cute and fun and sort of romantic.
  17. The nose guard thingies are called Breathe Rights. My husband uses them.
  18. I grew up in a household where no caffeine and no rated R movies was a hard and fast rule. I made sure my friends knew that I could not drink caffeine or watch R rated movies. I was ok with it all. Then I went off to college and had a culture shock. There were many members who would drink caffeine and watch R rated movies. I will admit that it shook me up a bit. Eventually I fell in love with a boy and got married, he drinks caffeine and watches R rated movies but is an active member. What I learned from my experience is this: We have been advised not to watch R rated movies, but it is still a choice of ours. There are some R rated movies that I would consider more ok than others. As for caffeine it is a decision that we have to make in our homes. There is no actual rule that we must avoid caffeine. Currently in my marriage my husband drinks caffeine and I do not. I have chosen not to not really because I think I "should" but rather because I don't like the way my body reacts to it. I am drug sensitive, meaning different drugs affect me more extremely than others. One can of caffenated soda can give me the jitters for the entire day. And there have been some cold medicine that with a normal dose has given me halucinations. As such I avoid drugs as much as I can and caffiene is one of those. As far as R rated movies, we own quite a few. However as we are currently pregnant I plan to cut that number down as there are some movies I really do not want in my house with a child around. It really comes down to how each member chooses to live their life. Some people choose to do things one way and others choose another way, when it comes to caffeine and movies no one way is right, it just depends on what you feel is best for your family.
  19. My mother is 5' 5" and when she is at her healthy weight she is usually about 110 to 115. People have come up to her and tried to get her to talk to them about her eating disorder, but the thing is, she doesn't have one. When she gets up to 125 or 130 she begins to feel sick and unhealthy. Some people just have a healthy weight that is lower than others. As other people in this post have mentioned, sit down and talk with her. It could be that she is fine.

    Comics

To tell the truth I pretty much exclusively read webcomics. So most of the comics I follow are not published by one of the big names, however a few of them have been taken up by darkhorse. Most are published by little known publishers or self published. Most of the comics keep their archives online so I usually just follow them online and only purchase the books if I really like the comic and want a physical copy. Many of my favorite webcomics are not even published yet, so I just read them online. I have followed different webcomics at different times. At minimum I generally follow about 4 to 5 webcomics at a time, but depending on the webcomics I have gotten up to about 20 at a time. I think my current list has something between 10 to 15 webcomics that I check at the very least weekly.
  21. Yes, I lucid dream all the time. I think I trained myself to do it because of my habit with my alarm clock. I tend to snooze for about 30 minutes every morning. It drives my husband crazy but it works for me because I slowly wake up. Basically I hit snooze each time the alarm rings until it is really time for me to wake up. Because of this I would hit snooze, lay back down and begin dreaming immediately. Often I would find that I knew it was a dream and be able to control it, or I would return to a dream I had before the alarm rang and go back into it knowing it was a dream and take control of it from there. I have pretty crazy dreams as it is, lucid dreaming mostly allows me to keep myself safe in my dreams or to stop nightmares when they are happening. Awhile ago I had a dream where I went to a restaurant and they fed me my dogs, the dream bothered me so much that I rewound it and redreamed it with a better ending. I will say, lucid dreaming does lead to interesting experiences in dreams.
  22. Ironically sharks don't bite because they think you might be fun to eat. They test what they are eating by biting it. Often sharks mistake people for some other type of food and then when they taste that it is a person they don't go for more. Sharks don't much like the taste of people. There are some sharks that get a taste for people but in general most sharks don't like how people taste. I guess white men resemble food more than the rest of us.
  23. Considering my experience with my husband here are my thoughts. Suits are worn by men. Men have a tendency to somehow without explanation get their clothes dirty very quickly. Darker colors have less tendency to show off dirt. Suits are generally dry clean only. It is much easier if the suits are dark in color to save on dry cleaning bills.
  24. I really think it would depend on the situation. I have known examples where a older child (or person) and a younger child do just fine together. And I have also known examples where an older child (or person) and a younger child leads to abuse or bullying. I think what really needs to be considered is how they are interacting with each other. If a parent does not feel comfortable then I see no reason why they shouldn't stop contact immediately. Better safe than sorry.
  25. I am guessing you are probably right. They haven't told me yet, I am only two weeks along. Next week they will do my first ultrasound and should be able to see if I am having twins or not. From what I have heard twins tend to be born sooner than single births so it may be earlier than Feb. I will let you know when I know.
