  1. Nope. Brigham Young claimed that he was taught the doctrine from Joseph Smith. Specifically not ‘thus saith the Lord’ Most likely Joseph Smith was trying to teach Brigham Young some profound doctrine that Brigham Young obviously misunderstood.
  2. You may need to brush up on your understanding on doctrine. May I recommend: https://rsc.byu.edu/vol-17-no-3-2016/doctrine-models-evaluate-types-sources-latter-day-saint-teachings If you did your homework reading Journal of Discourses 1: 50-51 You will see that Brigham Young prefaces his discourse with the commentary “upon which subject the Elders of Israel have conflicting views. Scripture is the golden standard. General Conference talks and official proclamations are of a lesser standard. In official proclamations there is obvious unanimity. The Adam God Theory is categorized as esoteric doctrine.
  3. Thats the beauty of having the scriptures and all the GC talks. You have to personally do your homework, know the scriptures, read (and understand) GC talks, as well as employ personal revelation. All the sources disagree with the so called ‘Adam God Theory’. From time to time there will be big policy changes in the church but Eternal / Core doctrine never change. You may have noticed thru the many postings of this thread that one person has been arguing their position contrary to everyone else. That is called an outlier, and generally the outlier is wrong. There is benefit to understanding doctrine and living your life in accordance to the covenant path. Take the material as a whole and stop clinging to your personal doctrinal fancies, or conspiracy theories. Jesus Christ is not trying to confuse you, and the General Authorities have made great sacrifices in their personal lives to help not hinder the saints. If you look at Joseph Smith’s final general conference talk (the so called KFD), and you study it, you will find that he quotes scriptures extensively. He did not give chapter and verse, but he quoted scripture. The Adam God theory is confusing, contrary to eternal and supportive doctrine and isn’t supported with scripture. I’m not sure if it was ever taught during a GC meeting either.
  4. That’s pretty simple minded. If you believe in God, the Light of Christ, and the holy Ghost, and you have honed your spirit of discernment; then you personally know what is right and wrong, fringe and grey. Most everyone knows when they are sinning. It ain’t hard. This past conference there was a talk given by Andrea Muñoz Spannaus wherein she took the 5 stones that David had prepared to fight Goliath and used them as a medium for a message about the “strength we need to be triumphant in our lives” Faith, Trust, Courage, Obedience, and Praise Then she added that she wished David had a 6th stone - Testimony. She kinda lost me there with the analogy. Her talk was fine and I know it was reviewed before she gave it. But it just wasn’t the same caliber as Holland, Oaks, or Bednar. Sometimes we just need a reminder to keep on the path. The Beware of Pride talk was life changing, if one would allow it.
  5. There are some General Conference talks that are obviously inspired. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1989/04/beware-of-pride?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1977/04/our-great-potential?lang=eng D&C 1:38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same. Joseph Smith routinely gave us revelations in the voice of the Lord. Ezra Taft Benson’s talk about pride is in his own voice. The question is, do we appreciate those messages equally?
  6. I’m pretty sure we have more revelations than any other dispensation. Other than the City of Enoch perhaps. There is great struggle with the Family Proclamation. I wish that we were ready for more revelations. That we could live a higher law. Don’t think we are ready yet.
  7. What about D&C 138 1918 I consider a vision continuing revelation.

  9. Nope, GC is super chill around here. Im not on call. No plans other than meals and TV. Will have it on in multiple rooms and outside speakers as well. Fixin to make the pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Real maple syrup. Berries and cream. Dress up or down. We don’t care. Just enjoy. Now, temple road trip to Sacramento. That can be trying.
  10. https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxdDh4pzPc6w_himUIY9D22uZCJo2d9uZn?si=7UextFFR-pB3BAEO Guess Im old fashioned. I like a traditional wife.
  11. When I was in Oregon the Local LDS church had the parking lot chained off - And the Bishop had missionaries on guard duty. We were not invited. Perhaps the Bishop had read the 10 virgin parable recently…
  12. Hope you have clear skies. Make sure you are in totality. Close does not get it! Bring binoculars - not a telescope. Get to your viewing site early and don’t plan on going home till the following day. Have a viewing plan. Look for the corona & solar prominences, look for the stars and planets. Big open spaces are better than in the city. It’s great to watch the animal reactions. Notice the temperature changing. Looking directly at the sun for a second wont blind you permanently. But it will totally ruin your eyesight for a couple minutes (the duration of totality). Bring water and snacks / food. Full tank of gas. Toilet paper, baby wipes, shovel just in case. Suntan lotion etc. #14 Welding glass is the best to look at the sun prior to totality.
  13. Drove me crazy to see girls in Jr. High and High School putting all those beads in their hair. You have dated yourself sir.
  14. Reminds me of Enos. I know darn well that his uncle Nephi and Father Jacob taught him numerous times many details of the gospel. Surely he had gone to church on a routine basis Enos 1:4-8 Yet, the knowledge without the spiritual work does not allow one to take advantage of Jesus Christ’s Atonement. It took Enos a might prayer to gain his testimony, and forgiveness. All of us must pass a personal test of spiritual work. Salvation does not occur via osmosis. Having a prophet father figure probably helps though.
  15. Not sure if time is running out for everyone. It certainly is for some.
  16. May you run out of hot water just as you step in the shower Curse you Vort!
  17. Thanks for the response. This point of view is kinda why I made this post. The new evangelical Christ marketing catch phrase, “He gets us.” Absolutely drives me nuts. Yup, He gets us. But so does Satan. Do we get him? When we take the Sacrament we commit to witness him. How can you witness him if you don’t know him. Isn’t it imperative to know who He is? Joseph Smith - “It is the first principle of the Gospel to know (with) a certainty the character of God, and to know that we (can) converse with Him as one man converses with another."
  18. Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. My wife taught herself how to read by age 2. She is the 3rd born child in her family and their mother read them stories @ night. She never had a reading lesson. Just started reading the stories over her shoulder, cereal boxes, labels, etc.
  19. Not sure what he learned. More like, “Oh yeah I recall saying that to Moses.”
  20. How intelligent do you think he was? I’m betting at least 300 IQ. Likely learned egyptian listening to it as a baby, Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic. But had gift of tongues so fluent in all languages. At age 12 he astounded the priests at the temple. Knew that Elohim was his father. Likely recollection of the pre-existence. I’m fairly certain he could read minds.
  21. Im confused here. Are we talking about the space program, hunting, golf, or axe chunking ?
