pam reacted to mikbone in Is Faith in Jesus Christ More Important for our Salvation than the Condition of our Hearts?
Faith in Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel.  Faith is an object of power and motivation.  When we have faith in Jesus Christ we desire to learn more about him. We want to become more like him.
True faith leads to a broken heart and contrite spirit which in turn allows us to repent and witness the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Everyone will be saved from physical death - eventually.  But only those who truly desire to become like Jesus Christ by following the covenant path will receive salvation from spiritual death.
Faith that does not lead to a broken heart and contrite spirit is not really Faith in Jesus Christ.
A broken heart and contrite spirit that does not lead to partaking of the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ can’t help us either.
There are many times when people have a broken heart.  Look at what is happening in Israel and Gaza right now.
There is a well demarcated path.  Those who choose to trail-blaze their own path via ignorance, pride, boredom, or (choose your favorite sin / distraction here), will never find true salvation.

We should and we will.  But in this particular case, I don't believe that "what we should do" will result in "what we hope will happen."  We're just going to see ruin at the end of this.

I wouldn't call it "Israel declares war".  I'd call it "Israel is under coordinated attack by Hamas, who has launched ~3000 missiles and conducted open insurgent attacks on multiple cities and areas all at once, with some reports claiming the insurgents have taken prisoners"
Recognizing that these actions mean you are in a state of war, is slightly different than Israel declaring war.

I miss how often they used to broadcast Conference at the Chapels.  It used to be a thing that we would all get together to watch conference together.  It felt like it was something that still united us in a common cause.  On Sunday it reminded us that it was still Sunday.  (Edit: One other thing I recall about conference before the internet was widespread and it was made more available was that missionaries tended to really love to invite investigators to watch a session with them at the chapel.  It would help with the spirit and they hoped investigators could feel it there too).
In some locations we could not get the broadcast, even with Satellite (when it existed) or via Radio.  I remember getting recordings of conference (so not even video of it) and being able to listen to it on a specified Sunday.  Later, I remember watching videos of it.  When in another part of the world conference would come on at a crazy hour so they would record that session and play it later for people to watch.
Today it seems they expect everyone in my area to have a way to watch it via the internet or TV.  I do, but I wonder about those who live in poverty which do not have such ease.  I was driving during part of the first session on Saturday as I had something I had to do and tried to see if any Radio stations at all in my area would have it.  They didn't.  Not even AM radio.
One blessing we have today though IS the internet.  I can go and probably pull up the Saturday Morning Session to be able to watch it via the church internet site.  That is something that we were unable to do in the past.

I may be betraying my age, but I grew hearing that religion is bad. For Christians, the refrain was, "It's not a religion, it's a relationship." The idea being that everyone else had to be religious because they were trying to reach God. Religion was humanity's attempt to find God. We learned that God came after us by sending Jesus to die for our sins.
Non-Christians, and some progressive ones, were fond of saying, "I'm not religious, I'm spiritual." What they meant was that organized religions were about systems and rules and programs. They were about personally connecting with their higher power.
My argument, as a chaplain, is that religion is good. If people are trying to reach God the Old Testament, New Testament, and Book of Mormon proclaim that they will find Him. As a great example, I've heard stories of Muslims having dreams of Jesus coming to them. Since Islam teaches that Jesus is a prophet, they listen carefully. After all, we should listen to and heed what prophets tell us, right? (i hear the faithful church members saying 'amen.')  Jesus tells them that he is more than a prophet--he is the Savior--the Son of God. They listen and some convert, because they are religious. Their religion teaches them that Jesus is to be listened to because he is a prophet.
So, no, religion will not redeem anyone. However, religion--a seeking after God--can build a spiritual bridge that can lead the soul to conversion/salvation.
    Bottom-line: Religion is good.

I watch on YouTube because I can speed it up - I find it easier to concentrate at high speeds.  Also, I can pause it to take notes, then resume.   But I like that the Church has an app and that it has all the features one could want (as far as I can tell).

And I saved you from being eaten by a real alligator.

Ms. @pam jumped in the lake and wanted to feed the alligator. I heroically jumped in and rescued her while the crowd cheered. Afterwards they lifted me on their shoulders and carried me around Myrtle Beach for hours.
