  1. Aww shucks, though I am a 'worst case scenario' obsessive person-- I have come to believe after you make sure that you are where you are supposed to be, doing what you are supposed to be doing (obeying all the commandments the best you can) then do not worry further, but keep in tune to the Holy Spirit and whatever happens, God can turn it to the good of them that love the Lord. :) -- otherwise, I would be a nervous wreck ! And when we are bound in fear we can't hear the Holy Spirit!
  2. Wow-- I think I will pick up some more soap at Costco TODAY, as I need to go there anyway! :) Barter item-- yes! :) and pests don't eat it, nor does it have a shelf life? :)
  3. Anybody see and can review "Midway to Heaven"?
  4. True :)
  5. It is interesting to me how many people think that the Bible is ALL the truth, but then insist that the doctrine of the Trinity is the test of a Christian, when it isn't even IN the Bible, but can only be pieced together with ignoring so much IN the Bible! Oh, well, I feel if people get awake enough to feel the need for God, they will continue to seek his truth, and that is why God sends us out as missionaries! Some day I will get to go, but for now I do what I can where I can, to spread the truth! 1. Jesus Christ organized his church 2. men changed it 3. it has been brought back to earth- by an angel is prophesied in Revelation 14:6. :)
  6. I wish it had been his own terrorists who had finally repented and realized that he was evil and leading them to do evil-- but then the non repent ones would probably have just lied and blamed it on the U.S. anyway-- so whatever. -- I am glad that he didn't "get away" with his crimes. __ I understand that he used a woman as a shield -- hiding behind her live body (probably his wife?) and she died too. what a poor excuse of a man. Maybe he and Hitler can commiserate together over who was the "greatest"?
  7. Might I say here, that we raised 5 kids of our own, all now temple married, and all served missions! Plus we did foster care for 10 years, and the Love and Logic parenting is the greatest thing!
  8. I am not taking time to read other replies, and it is serious as apparently the girl has not realized that no one can really "prevent her" from making bad choices. the VERY BEST thing I can recommend is that the parents get the "Love and Logic" parenting helps (look on line) which use first empathy (not anger !) and logic with the CHILD learning by choices between things (from toddler age early in life is best!) to think for themselves-- "how might this choice effect me and my future choices?" so --- also is it MAJOR that the child and parent have a good relationship-- which the methods of the L&L totally promote as it is how I see God works with us! but it is not too late-- and there is a video called "A time to Love" made by LDS that might help-- but the best is L&L!
  9. While on the one hand, what you wear to your baptism is not all that important, but what is in you heart is, and since you have the CUTE white suit, (which you could wear to church anytime, or firesides, or going TO the temple or whatever! :) I suggest that you don't HAVE to have "matching" shoes. Taupe colored, or a shade the color of your skin are fine (the prophet has asked us not to wear flip flops that could be worn to the beach, to church) or you can have fun and have even pink shoes and a pink purse, or even wear black shoes if you want! (I personally like the shoes to be a shade darker than the skirt- ) I think what is MOST important is that whatever you wear, that you don't wear something that will distract you from the REASON you are there, as your clothing should not be the main focus. Think about the Savior and the path you are entering, -- in His days I even totally doubt it was required to wear white to be baptized in-- how many poor people had even a change of clothing? So- happy for your baptism! you are on the right path! :) May God bless you to keep going on it!
  10. I have not taken the time to read the other replies. -- The Prophet wants females and males to get an education, and at the same time is good, but when babies come, it takes a back seat for the mother who is needed MORE by them "at this season". Also, an education for the woman helps the children SO MUCH-- and the work done within the walls of the home is the MOST important in the world-- though we don't usually get paid for it! There was the story of a high up female judge who wanted to make a difference and help kids, and after she had worked for several years she saw so MANY youth in trouble BECAUSE of the failure of the home front- that she literally QUIT saying she needed to be home to make the best difference in the lives of her own kids (she had two pre schoolers by that time as I remember) Yes, you can do part time work while the kids are in school, if you are intelligent and energized enough to do both, or volunteer as the church encourages, but the husbands responsibility is mainly to provide and protect, and work WITH the wife. the Family is the BASIC unit of all creation-- it is our family that is eternal-- the FATHER title of God, even given by Jesus Christ the MOST often as a title of respect, should tell us something. I believe that it is protecting our Heavenly Female parent that is the reason God the Father has not given us more info on her, and also that they work together as one. :) Not to worry-- I think women have the more blessed of duties/work!
  11. I didn't take the time to read the others replies, as I feel you are right-- it was YOUR choice to discredit the churches teachings by doing things you knew you shouldn't that has caused him to lose respect for the true teachings. Your only real choice is to first respect yourself enough to really repent FULLY and get back on the path-- which MAY help him to see better. Then- who you marry will be up to you and God-- and I would sure work to have all the possible options on your side! It is so hard in this day and age to make (it IS work, but good work :) a great marriage- that having such a basic thing as Faith/religion on which our view of life rests, be not the same, can be a tremendously huge stumbling block! Even marring IN the church, still there are levels of commitment/testimony and follow through that must be dealt with. May God bless you in what choices you make, as you remember that Gods plan is the plan of Happiness, given to us so that we will KNOW the way to go to be MOST happy! :)
  12. My youngest bro was so large for his age, that when he was a deacon (age 12) adults who didn't know him would rail on him for not "acting his age" as he looked to be 17! "Santa Claus" refused to let him sit on his knee, as he thought he was older and just trying to cause trouble
  13. Interesting- when so many are trying SO hard to even get noticed ! she has a GREAT "head start"! Here is something that might open her eyes-- an LDS author with MULTI awards wrote the "Ender" series- which is basically about a really short but super intelligent boy AND part of the series focus on yet an even SMALLER but MORE intelligent boy! What is important is what you do with what you are given to work with. I would much rather be short than so tall that no boys wanted to dance with me! Small also lets your sweetheart sweep you up in his arms etc! We can only really control ourselves- not others choices though we can often influence them. Sometimes taking something "outstanding" and USING it to our advantage works great! Also looking at all the short people in the world who went on to do BIG things might help? Lord Nelson of England was short AND lost an arm and an eye and was STILL their beloved military leader! Essentially- size does not REALLY matter-- God gave us each our bodies, and how wonderful to have so many great of mind etc and just this one small challenge? Besides, with a large person like my daughter in law- who is over 6'2" -- she has to pay DOUBLE to find levies long enough for her, and work extra hard to find any stylish clothing to fit her arms too Even to sew for herself, she has to buy MORE material and remake patterns! while a small person can save big bucks shopping in the girls department-- as SO much of style is duplicated for the YOUNG girls! Even shoes!
  14. The interesting question/fact in this is that where did the "Trinity" idea of God come from? since the word "Trinity" is not even IN the KJV and the balance point that the MEN of the council of Nicea used to oust those who didn't agree with THEIR conclusion about deity = insisting that the Father Son and Holy Ghost be of one "essence" also isn't found in the KJV and the VERY council was called together by a Pagan, wanting to force the Christians who had apostatized so considerately to unite- so he could use that to hold together his empire BY FORCE not true conversion-- which is hardly a Christian teaching-- I think the poster of the original post is really worrying about the wrong questions. When I read the Bible I see that an apostasy was totally prophesied before Jesus Second Coming. what more diabolical thing could Satan do than mess with the VERY definition of God? Also-- the original poster do NOT represent the full stance of what LDS belief in God is either! but God may be working to help the original poster get closer to the truth by using this very forum! :)
  15. What does this mean to you -- considering the question you asked? # John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
  16. I think the answer you are looking for is in the doctrine and Cov. I will copy paste it here for those who don't have easy access? -- please excuse what looks like "type errors" as they are what in the print are SMALLER a, b, c etc to indicate footnotes. -- still the message should come across. :) Section 19 Revelation given through Joseph Smith, at Manchester, New York, March 1830 (see History of the Church, 1:72–74). In his history, the Prophet introduced it as “a commandment of God and not of man, to Martin Harris, given by him who is Eternal” (History of the Church, 1:72). 1–3, Christ has all power; 4–5, All men must repent or suffer; 6–12, Eternal punishment is God’s punishment; 13–20, Christ suffered for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; 21–28, Preach the gospel of repentance; 29–41, Declare glad tidings. 1I am aAlpha and Omega, bChrist the Lord; yea, even I am he, the beginning and the end, the Redeemer of the cworld. 2I, having accomplished and afinished the will of him whose I am, even the Father, concerning me—having done this that I might bsubdue all things unto myself— 3Retaining all apower, even to the bdestroying of Satan and his works at the cend of the world, and the last great day of judgment, which I shall pass upon the inhabitants thereof, djudging every man according to his eworks and the deeds which he hath done. 4And surely every man must arepent or bsuffer, for I, God, am cendless. 5Wherefore, I arevoke not the judgments which I shall pass, but woes shall go forth, weeping, bwailing and gnashing of teeth, yea, to those who are found on my cleft hand. 6Nevertheless, it is anot written that there shall be no end to this torment, but it is written bendless ctorment. 7Again, it is written aeternal damnation; wherefore it is more express than other scriptures, that it might work upon the hearts of the children of men, altogether for my name’s glory. 8Wherefore, I will explain unto you this amystery, for it is meet unto you to know even as mine apostles. 9I speak unto you that are chosen in this thing, even as one, that you may enter into my arest. 10For, behold, the amystery of godliness, how great is it! For, behold, I am bendless, and the punishment which is given from my hand is endless cpunishment, for dEndless is my name. Wherefore— 11aEternal punishment is God’s punishment. 12Endless punishment is God’s punishment. 13Wherefore, I command you to repent, and keep the acommandments which you have received by the hand of my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., in my name; 14And it is by my almighty power that you have received them; 15Therefore I command you to repent—repent, lest I asmite you by the rod of my mouth, and by my wrath, and by my anger, and your bsufferings be sore—how sore you know not, how exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not. 16For behold, I, God, have asuffered these things for all, that they might not bsuffer if they would crepent; 17But if they would not repent they must asuffer even as I; 18Which asuffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that I might bnot drink the bitter cup, and shrink— 19Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and afinished my preparations unto the children of men. 20Wherefore, I command you again to repent, lest I ahumble you with my almighty power; and that you bconfess your sins, lest you suffer these cpunishments of which I have spoken, of which in the smallest, yea, even in the least degree you have dtasted at the time I withdrew my Spirit.
  17. here is a copy paste from the topical guide to the scriptures in the LDS edition of King James Bible Man, a Spirit Child of Heavenly Father see also Man, Antemortal Existence of; Spirit Body; Worth of Souls. * God of the spirits of all flesh, Num. 16:22 * Ye are the children of the Lord your God, Deut. 14:1 * there is a spirit in man, Job 32:8 * breath of the Almighty hath given me life, Job 33:4 * Ye are gods … children of the most High, Ps. 82:6 * the spirit shall return unto God who gave it, Eccl. 12:7 * he that giveth breath … and spirit to them that walk, Isa. 42:5 * Ye are the sons of the living God, Hosea 1:10 * Have we not all one father, Mal. 2:10 * Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father, Matt. 5:48 (3 Ne. 12:40). * Our Father which art in heaven, Matt. 6:9 (3 Ne. 13:9). * we are the offspring of God, Acts 17:29 * Spirit itself beareth witness … we are the children of God, Rom. 8:16 * One God and Father of all, Eph. 4:6 * be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, Heb. 12:9 * he hath created his children, 1 Ne. 17:36 * spirits … taken home to that God who gave them life, Alma 40:11 * from God, for the benefit of the children of God, D&C 46:26 * inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God, D&C 76:24 * spirit of man in the likeness of his person, D&C 77:2 * your Father, who is in heaven, knoweth, D&C 84:83 * spirit and the body are the soul of man, D&C 88:15 * I may testify unto your Father, and your God, D&C 88:75 * man is spirit, D&C 93:33 * God, had created all the children of men, Moses 3:5 * I made the world, and men before they were in the flesh, Moses 6:51 * intelligences that were organized before the world, Abr. 3:22 See also Luke 23:46; Acts 7:59; Eph. 3:14–15; Eph. 5:1.
  18. Maybe a few definitions need to be made about "unchangeable"? -- if you become greater, are you then unchangeable? Or is it that they are talking about that God will not change his nature and become evil? (my vote is on the latter) Also in the bible it says "ye are gods..." Jesus is the firstborn of SPIRITS- AND THE ONLY BEGOTTEN IN THE FLESH while in many places the Bible tells us, even in Jesus words that God is our Father too. :) (to Mary after his resurrection specifically)
  19. Humm- seems you are missing that ETERNALLY you ARE lost to your family at THIS TIME-- ALREADY? -- the ONLY possible way to repair that is through repentance! -- hopefully if you are really sincere and can convince your wife to trust you and forgive you, she will not leave you? This should be a matter of prayer for her and guidance from God for what is best. For me- the LONGER the secret is protected the WORSE for all-- as the less likely she is to think we are REALLY sorry and willing to do anything to be clean again! You do not have an "Eternal Marriage" at this time because adultery is a deal breaker- and you would NOT get to be with your family after this life, not because of adultery but because of NOT REPENTING -- and how do we know if someone has truly repented?? Because they will CONFESS their sins to the appropriate priesthood authority! hey get real here-- the only way to survive the disaster you have done to your family IS TO REPENT! How will your children ever be able to trust -- if you don't work now to show them how to heal a broken trust bridge-- you don't whitewash a broken bridge and let people try to walk on it till they crash, as it WILL be known- as all things hidden will be "shouted from the rooftops" the bible says! I think it is selfish and delusional to think to hide such a breach of covenants-- but benefit from their not knowing. --- IF you are a good person-- then ACT like it-- BE GOOD! Bear the pain you have caused, and endure the consequences of your actions or it will be worse later! And be careful NOT to die in your sins, as it is WAY harder to repent in the next life they tell us!
  20. You are right- If one looks at being "Jewish" as a blood line, then nothing can REALLY change that, even legal adoption, but you can "add" more family by adoption? While if one looks at Jewish, as a culture, or a religion, then still I think adding the "MORE" of LDS does not deny the good that came before.

    The Robe

Have and also read the book AND the movie (books are always best for depth and then there is the hard part where the movie can hardly live up to the pictures you make in your mind- but if the plot is good enough (and they don't change it that much) a movie after reading the book is like getting a familiar story told years later by a different character- the things they share are different etc. I think anyone would enjoy either the Book or the Movie, but I was a bit sad that they seemed to make the robe a bit of magic or talisman- instead of the TEACHINGS and LIFE of our Savior. : /
  22. I am excited to go find this playing somewhere! Too bad I don't live in UT!
  23. Well- there are several (you can buy in stores) movies about LDS missionaries that you might enjoy watching. "The Other Side of Heaven" by Disney- is about Elder Grobergs mission to Tonga years ago. It stars an early Ann Hathaway. Then there is "The Best Two Years" about a new elder assigned to the Netherlands. I LOVE this movie and my brother was almost in it. (He married a dutch girl). It is funny, insightful and also inspiring. "The Errand of Angels" is one taking a young lady through her mission-- (18 months for girls) and I think it is about Austria? (I forget) and it was also good at showing how hard it can be to miss your family and culture learn to get along with others in a 24-7 companionship learn a new language but the greatest thing is when you are the tool in bringing the re-established gospel of Jesus Christ to someone and they choose to accept it and change their life to the plan of happiness! YES! Enjoy!
  24. I think that it would be best to talk to your mother (if she is still on the earth) and any siblings you have- so they can understand that it will STILL be your fathers decision to accept or reject the ordinance ---- In my way of thinking of an example it is like you have set up for him- a pre paid life long health insurance account -- he can accept and benefit from it or wait and learn more about it, and accept it later --- it is just there by your work- for him. (of course we are assuming that he is totally worthy;)otherwise he might need to do a bit of repenting?) ---- so ACTUALLY the VERY best is to talk to him (and any other family) NOW! As it is much easier to repent in this life than in the next and also would give them time to show their faith BY their good works etc!
  25. I'm thinking that there are two postitions that Satan wants us to take when we fall; a. I'm too terrible to go to church, or pray or ___ at this time- later I will repent... b. I'm just fine and a good person, I pray and read my scriptures and later I will take care of this "little detail"... but either one of them leads us to not ----just "repent asap"! --- which is the ONLY way to clean up our act, and like stains on clothing-- the longer the stain "sets" the harder it is to get it out-- also like a sliver in our finger, if we get it out asap, it is MUCH easier than waiting for swollen, sore, infection that is hurting the rest of the whole body and can kill us if blood poisoning sets in! -- so I suggest you get a piece of paper and write down the goods and bads if you go to the bishop right now, and the goods and bads if you don't fix this asap! I think you will find out that it is possibly selfishness and or pride that is the problem? May God continue to bless you (and us all) with what is needed. Gramajane
