My only question is how do you get clean in the shower?

I was legitimately surprised, I did not think the choir would have it's name changed.

Yes, we Mennonite & Amish are anabaptist cousins, some live old order, some have adopted everyday technology, such as the use of power grid services.

Why do modesty discussions always have to turn to this, it's not always about others.
Modesty is about respect for your body, it's sacred nature, and that it isn't for everyone's eyes. My that sounds like we are talking about a temple, I wonder why.

Whoa! @Styln is mennonite? Is that the one that is like Amish except they use electricity? I'd love to know more about it!

Adimittly I do live in a dry area however I do recognize that humidity sucks! I am surprised about you perfering cotton in high humidity, I actually found it, as you stated, absorbed sweat. But I also found that it held onto the sweat and just turned into a damp swamp in unsavory places.
Maybe when I visit a high humidity place myself I'll have to put your words to the test and see what I think.

A California ward? About the only population in the foyer is all of us late comers that didn't make it before sacrament has started to get passed. Or the occasional child wandering the halls with a parent.
I may have been a tad bit theatrical with the description, but I do remember it being difficult with our first child, a difficult child, trying to feel a part of the ward when we had to take him out of meetings constantly pre-nursery. I do remember feeling alone in our struggle with our kids, seeing other families with their perfectly still kids and wondering what was wrong with us etc... On top of other stresses. My heart just reaches out to parents struggling with their kids I guess.

What kind of weird ward do you live in? We have people who are permanent fixtures in the foyer. If they came into the chapel, the bishop would probably have a heart attack. (And no, they don't have kids.)

I just realized that you aren't a Latter-day Saint, If my comment seemed rude I apologize. I tend to use sarcasm when I shouldn't and I forget how it can come off as.
We believe our bodies are God's temple. Our bodies are sacred, It's just a peeve of mine that many shrug off modesty standards as being all about not tempting the opposite sex when I believe it's so much more than that. Our bodies are sacred gifts from God and are to be respected. You just happened to land on something that people say that bugs me sometimes.

jerome1232 got a reaction from MrShorty in Was jesus married
I'm not sure why this matters. On one hand it stands to reason that Christ was baptized to show us how it's done, that he'd also get married much for the same reason.
But you know what, Jesus was God before He had a body. Therefore he need not be married here on earth to attain celestial glory since he was already there. I'm not sure how that works.
I'd chalk this up to "I have no idea, It's possible but it's never explicitly stated." We know that we are commanded to be sealed for eternity in God's temple.

When you have a controversial religious figure healing people, raising the dead, driving out demons, and claiming to be the Son of Man (a divine messianic figure, according to Daniel), claiming to be the only way to God, calling the teachers of the law white-washed tombs, then could it be that his marital status would have been considered a minor matter in light of everything else? The gospels tell us often that the rulers planned to kill Jesus. This for what he said and what his movement might result in--not whether he was hitched or not.

The person who starts marketing Benedryl-spiked Cheerios to Mormon mommies is going to make a fortune.

I am no apologist for soda pop -- I honestly can't think of one significant redeeming quality about it, even though I do drink the stuff -- but I heartily disbelieve that it is "more detrimental to long term health than the same amounts of alcohol". No way.

When you're in a high humidity place, wet doesn't become dry... so you have 2 choices - wet on your body or wet on your clothes. The reason you have underwear is so that something absorbs the fluids from your body so it doesn't end up on your outer clothing. When your underwear repels the fluids instead, it stays on your body causing it to remain hot as well as causing chaffing and rashes and stink.

Not related to cotton, but: When I was on my mission (in the Philippines) about half way through I learned that wearing long sleeved shirts instead of the standard short sleeves that all other missionaries wore, was SO much more comfortable. Why? It absorbed the sweat and dried out. Much nicer than the sticky arms sticking to the back pack, etc.

If the "pacifists" are refusing to defend only their own lives, especially if that's a result of their own "many murders" for which they are desperately struggling to repent -- as was the case with the Lamanites who were the people of Ammon and refused to fight even in the face of death -- then I can respect that. For the rest, I am reminded of the words attributed to the Prophet Joseph Smith:
Peace be still, bury the hatchet and the sword, the sound of war is dreadful in my ear. [But] any man who will not fight for his wife and children is a coward and a bastard.
