  1. Recently been in quite a few wards over the past few years and one thing I noticed was the lack of new families here for the summer trying their hand with door to door sales. Which is a good sign, but for others out there are young couples still getting duped into making riches over a period of three months trying to sell pest control, alarm systems, or living scriptures? I got roped into one of these years ago for summer in between college at BYU-Idaho, wasted 8 weeks working 12 hr days a day 6 days a week to come out with nothing.
  2. The day I have to give up bacon cheeseburgers is the day I become inactive.
  3. 1 Nephi 2:15 And my father dwelt in a tent.
  4. I wish I had the ability to eat an endless amount of double bacon cheeseburgers, without consequences to my health or weight.
  5. Obama has something positive going, he's become the #1 gun salesman the past few years.
  6. "Tender Mercies" Ever since Elder Bednar gave that talk its been way overused in just about everything. Call me grouchy but members using in every context of their life and ordeals, it doesn't have that much meaning to me anymore.
  7. A big misconception of garments being magical is a very big lie. Garments represent covenants we make in the temple to help remind us of them. Garments are very sacred, this link produced by the church does a very good job giving a understanding of what the garments represent and why we wear them. Unfortunately many of the stories of lds members surviving deathly encounters by wearing their garments if of urban legends (not to say there are legitimate ones out there). Wearing of the garments most importantly helps protect us from the many dangers or temptations of the world by giving us a reminder of the way we live a Christ like life.
  8. First of Byron, this is not offensive to ask as others might have suggested. The nature of Mary becoming pregnant manifests the power of God. How it was done on a physical level one might never know during our period on Earth. I applaud you for asking of these questions as many misconceptions can lead to incorrect teachings and beliefs. We should seek out truth and understanding. Many times we may not know or understand the answer, but remember faith helps us in knowing that God is all powerful and knowledgeable.
  9. I drink Pepsi or Mountain Dew, and yes I am not going to outer darkness which some Mormon hardliners might think. There’s no commandment that says you can't eat a bacon cheeseburger every day, but your health and gut will say otherwise. We self-govern ourselves to make correct principles, which in hand can lead to a healthy or poor lifestyle.
  10. A few weeks ago the lesson for third hour was on husband and wives. I shared the importance of human initmacy in marriage and the sacredness of it, midway through my thought I got interupted by another Elder that said he didn't want to hear any more of it. Seriously nothing rude or even remotely specific to sex was brought up. Why is it some members can't even feel comfortable talking about a important part of marriage?
  11. If you want a good read, turn to the Journal of Discourses and read about Brigham Young’s thoughts on inhabiting the moon and the people 20 feet tall that reside there. These are not doctrinal teachings and such should be taken very lightly when researching the church. We live in a current time of transparency where the church is being more open. Which I am very happy about, I've gotten to know more insight into early church practices and teachings. Critics will always look for the faults in our leaders and never the good. Their sole purpose is to show offense and cause offense in this pc rubbish world. But I say let them stand on their soapbox and rant all they want. We have ordinary men called as prophets and apostles to lead this church, who I will always support.
  12. I've never been so ruffed up, bruised, tripped, received a sprained ankle and argued over stupid fouls than during church ball. Been over 10 years since playing church basketball and don't regret it.
  13. If you pay tithing once a week or once a year it doesn't matter, every person’s financial situation is different, I knew someone that paid his tithing the very last week of the year due to investments, business agreements and various other means. He wanted to make sure it was all accounted for.
  14. My feeling is its your house, lounge in what you feel comfortable. I had plenty roommates walking around in their garments, it never bothered me.
  15. Prayers over meals seem to always bless the food and that it may do us good feels like a vain repition of prayers. Do people have other suggesions what can be said? Latley I've been focusing more on giving thanks for various things.
  16. Is it just me or are other people feeling the same way about seeing this movie. In sacrament meeting\stake conference\sunday school\relief society and elders qourum we got pounded about seeing this movie. Our stake president even said it was our duty(a commandment from the brethern) to see this movie. I plan on waiting till its free on the church website to see it. Too many members are like you'll be gauranteed a spot in the celestial kingdom for watching it.
  17. I enjoy seeing and listening when new discoveries happen in science, as we come to know more about this universe I see more of how the Lords hand plays in it. Think of the smallest objects we know of quarks and leptons currently. Yet there are elements that make up those. God knows all of this and all elements of life obey his command. When the resurrection happens we will be restored with a perfect body. Even for those creamated will be restored. God knows our gneome of our bodys and every particle thats needed for it. I have faith he will restore us no matter the outcome our physical body goes through in this life.
  18. Recently in our ward for three weeks strait we where drilled to donate $20 or more to Friends of Scouting during opening exercises for priesthood. I haven't nor will I ever donate to this. Too many friends have stated that none of the funds go to the local scouting groups. I wanted to stand up and ask if any the money would stay or how will it help the local YM in scouts. Has anyone else been badgered these announcements for Friends of Scouting.
  19. So I guess the rumors have been spreading around for some time about new super secret missions being opened up in countries that we had not been in yet. To bad I haven't heard any of these yet, would been a good laugh in church. Such nonsense always follows when a major announcement is made like this of missionary ages being lowered. To quote from Elder Nelson: "Such rumors are absolutely false. Refute them!” Elder Nelson said. "Leaders of this Church enter countries new to the Church through the front door. We do not go in through the back door or via the alley. Our relationships are based on honesty, openness, integrity and complete compliance with local law." Article from the Church Newsroom
  20. I predict a huge influx of 19 year old girls getting marriage proposals in the coming weeks at BYU Universities.
  21. Since you've been talking with the Bishop I would certainly say the Spirit has been with you. Your making an effort to correct a wrong in your life and the Lord could not be more pleased with you. The repentance process can be wrenching, epically if any disciplinary action needs to be taken. But remember this that your taking the vises Satan has no you and allowing the Spirit more into your life. There will be a time again to partake of the sacrament and when that time comes you will feel much joy.
  22. Sometimes the difference between a good lesson and a bad one is the teacher. I've had several teachers in EQ that literally read from the manual the whole lesson. There wasn't much discussion and I felt wasted after its done because there was more I wanted to contribute but never could. What makes a lesson is when both the teacher and members are contributing. Even better is when members read the chapters or lesson before hand and ready to give their insight and thoughts.
  23. I enjoy it, but not at the scale seen on tv. Nothing beets going to In-n-Out and getting a 10x10.
  24. There is a degree to what the Bishop/SP will do with an individual for a sin like this. If a person comes to the Bishop and says their spouse has been sleeping with another person and that individual refuses to change their ways. It could be grounds for excommunication or disfellowshipped for that person. On the other hand if this individual realizes they royally screwed up and want to repent of their sins then the Bishop will see what type of repentance process is needed and disciplinary action also. Since this is a serious sin to commit and the repercussions of it, it presents a sacred nature to it. That person needs to think deeply about it between God and their spouse. Trust is broken here and is very hard to overcome. Much like a Bishop judges an individual on the nature of their sins on how sincere they are to repent, so should the spouse in working to repair the marriage.
