Another thing we would do is tie fishing line across the street. When cars would break it, it would make a loud snapping noise and watch peoples reaction. We also used to do that and run the line through a couple of straws in the middle so that they appeared to be floating (all at night). Cars would stop, their drivers would get out and we would steal their cars! Oh, well, okay we wouldn't steal their cars, we would just watch. Once we did that about 5 times down the same street, it was funny to see the car stop with each "floating straw" road block.

My ward friends would hang out Friday nights and tie a stuffed animal skunk on fishing line. We would then place it across the street and run the line into the yard on the other side. We would all get well hidden and when a car would come we would slowly start to pull it out into the road to see if cars would stop for it. Most would, but the bewildered look on there face to see an animal essentially roll out into the street, stop and then roll away was classic. Kind of like a "did I just imagine that" look. We got quite proficient at it. One time, a truck full of other youth tried to stop not to hit it, the stopped on our line and before they stole our skunk one looked out into the yard we were hiding in and said "I bet there are a bunch of kids right now just laughing at us"... well we waited for them to leave. But we needed to get a new animal. We had to stop when we started placing it into a tree and made it look like it was jumping down in front of the car after some cars swerved pretty bad, we didn't want to cause an accident.

I agree with those here, no biggie. If the Elders are hurt over not being asked to baptized, maybe they have some thinking to do as to why they are out in the first place. Don't worry about them. They are there to see the Lords work done, not necessarily do it all themselves. I have a feeling that they will be just as pleased to see you get dunked. Congratulations to you and your family.

I think if you would have stated, "I am against stop and identify laws" in your original post that may have helped. I myself do not like the route the police force in general is headed... for reasons I have already stated. However, that is not the route it took due to the lack of your original post simply stating something negative about "mini-Gods" being the police force. Now that you have narrowed your intent to a specific item, the discussions, if people still choose to engage, may be better.

I purchased my wife the Nike Fuel Band for her birthday in December. She loves it. The Nike one may seem overpriced, but it is very durable and interfaces with your computer and iphone seamlessly. I cannot speak for the others. I think it depends on why you are getting one. If you want some motivation to see where your movement is throughout the day, any might work. If you are hoping to count calories burned, you are not going to get an accurate reading from any arm band. The Fuel motivates like a game. You get points for movement, you can compete with friends, you can see where you stand with the average person of your age and gender. Once you start beating your fuel goal, you up it and try to maintain or beat it. It is pretty good for motivation if you are motivated by a goal that you can track throughout the day. If my wife is close at the end of the day she will do a quick workout before bed, just to reach it. I would read the reviews on each, Good luck!

By popular demand with a total vote of Wingnut, I am starting this thread. It should be fun. Write something you like about how the person above you posts. Things that you like. Treat this like if you go around the table at thanksgiving saying things you like, not the "air of grievances" off of Seinfeld. I am not sure who to start out with, so I will start with the most recent post that stuck in my mind. I choose Mirkwood to get this started. I recently posted something that I knew could be seen as potential paranoia or extreme. The moment I posted it I knew that Mirkwood would be a good person to respond to it since it had to do with his line of work. I knew however that I was exposing myself to some pretty harsh criticism. When he responded to my post, it was calm, to the point and not demeaning at all. I appreciate this, from responses such as these I know that I can trust that Mirk will respond in similar fashions. Thanks Mirk! Now it is your turn. Go!

Yah, no worries. I have come to appreciate everyone's opinions on here. I know what I am going to get before I start reading. This particular thread makes me want to tell each of you about what I look forward to when I see your names.

I guess we will just have to start replying with "EarlJibbs thanks you for this post" and "EarlJibbs laughed at what you said" but expound on it a little. Maybe we can start posting in third party like that as well? "EarlJibbs doesn't agree with your post, but respects it" "EarlJibbs slightly giggled out loud when you said that" AS for the OP, I just had get used to different opinions. Coming here means that I am not talking to people I feel think just like me in my own circles. But I have come to appreciate that. I am pretty sure that the first times that I posted I got into it with Anatess, well at least I thought we were fighting, it turned out that only I was. Unless you are used to taking any kind of advice or hearing thoughts from all sorts of people, online forums may not be for everyone.

I appreciate your take on all of that Mirk.

Unfortunately not all of the equipment comes from the police department however or are "voter approved". The Military "gifts" items to the police departments. I know that since I am making these claims I must give references, but I am not going to dig everything up right now. I will give reference to a few articles that reflect what I am saying however, feel free to read them. The military grade weaponry in a lot of police forces is real. Drones, Tanks, and Grenade Launchers: Coming Soon to a Police Department Near You | John W. Whitehead Military Surplus Diverted To Police Departments With Little Oversight I have already stated that I don't think that our police force should combat machine guns with pistols. they need to be equipped. But are we really at the stage of tanks? Maybe its more a sign of our times than it is conspiracy. But what need do police have of tanks, grenade launchers, military-grade helicopters, Ohio State University has a heavily-armored vehicle intended to withstand IED blasts... Where is America Headed with this? I don't disagree with what you have said necessarily, but I think we should be more concerned than we are.

I don't agree with the OP reflection on Police as a whole or to the opinion about this video, I want to make that clear first off. I have police friends and Maybe I shouldn't have expounded on the OP and the military in this thread but I did. However, Police training with the military in joint training missions dressed in fatigues, using the same weapons, the same vehicles... this is uncomfortable to more than just a small fraction or at least it should be. If we need tanks, we have the military. That being said, I believe that police cannot fight machine guns with hand guns, but where do we stop? I think the questions need to be asked. I like this article from CNN. Are police becoming militarized? - CNN.com The more the police act like a public service and less like a military unit is always better in my opinion. But I do not have the answers for how to do that with Urban society. As far as saying, oh martial law is the only time the military can take control over the police force, this sounds fine until you realize the police force is outfitted just like the military. I just don't believe that is what they are for. I realize where I stand with my thoughts is not popular and maybe in line more with the OP than what I state. But I'm glad that were friends none the less. :)

Militarizing our law enforcement is a bad idea in my opinion also. Many appear to be being trained by local military units and yes it is alarming if you are thinking of the police force becoming a branch of the military if the government states that the need arises. But this has nothing to do with the original post and is not supported in the least with what you originally provided. I am against giving the government too much control over any police force as they are there specifically for the people. On the flip side, what are cops supposed to do when they face what they do now days? Long gone are the days of Andy Griffith and Barney. Our own corruption and influences of the adversary has made us who we are today. Not the police force.

If this was brought up on this forum to shed light on bad cops, it’s doing a very poor job in my opinion. I certainly hope that was not the intent. The video shows five cops holding the man down and cuffing him. They are breathing heavy and there is no video of them beating him. The woman in the video says that they beat him, and the cop admits them struggling with this man. Trying to detain him could easily have looked a little violent. Struggles do not often look like a pillow fight. The fact that the article comes from an apparent anti-cop site rings an alarm in my mind. Of course there are bad cops, just like there are bad people anywhere, including church leaders for that matter. I was pulled over once with my children in the back seat, my brother (looks like a rocker) in the front seat in the evening one night. I have been pulled over before, but not in this area of town and not at night. The police officer tells me to place my hands on the steering wheel, and yells at my brother to do the same. My children looked worried in the back seat. I reassured them everything was okay. He looks at my information, He returned my information and we left. I wasn't upset that he treated me at first like a suspect, I was driving an older Honda Civic with tinted windows in a potential rough area. I could have been anyone, or my brother. Unfortunately police officers do not have the luxury that the majority of us do at our jobs, which happens to be a very high percentage less chance of death by seemingly regular looking citizens.

The form that we were handed had a "pay later" section and the BSA would send you a bill. And hound you like you really owed them for some service they provided if you didn't pay.

My last house, I finished a wall in my basement. I then paid someone to make it look like it was done correctly. I didn't do terrible, but anything less than perfect in a wall is highly noticeable :) New house now, I turned a game room into a bedroom and had to finish a half wall. I didn't even attempt, I got bids and had it professionally done. Not only was it done correctly, but it was done in a week. I would have taken a month and then still call someone! Now small items like garden boxes.... I will never pay or buy something like that.

We went through about a half hour testimonial about how good scouts is this past week combined with all the priesthood and Relief Society. Now that I have a boy in Scouts, I donate more willingly. As far as where the money goes, I am not concerned at this point. I use the church resources for scouting and they pay for a lot of it if you think about it. So I don't feel bad at all contributing $20 -$50 and do not question it.

Just got back from having a burger now. Thanks guys, I was going to work through my lunch today :) I added some Chili Cheese Fries to top it off.

Just watched Gravity. I didn't check to see if anyone has talked about it. I cant wait for the "How It Should Have Ended" version from HISHE to be made, because it should have been a 5 minute film. But hey, if I want reality, I would just go sit on my front porch. :)

I do have to say that my online customer service for software purchased online has been amazing. Other than that, utility companies are always bad. My banks are generally pretty good.

Maybe hurt the way she says it? I can't understand that the mere fact that if he doesn't believe it, why would it hurt? Or although he left the church does this mean that it isn't his unbelief as to the reason he left. What she said was true, however, how she said it may have been the hurtful thing. I can't say that I would expect my wife to act any differently, especially if we were sealed together. She didn't sign up for that. A covenant must be taken seriously. One doesn't just back out of a promise without consequences. Although I would hope my wife would have patience with me, I think she would be justified to remind me that I can't live with her in Heaven without keeping my covenants.

Does anyone else here despise a dead parent?
EarlJibbs replied to KountC's topic in General Discussion
My wife has as good a reason to despise and hate her Father and Grandfather as anyone else. I'm not saying she is better than anyone, but she is a great example to me along the lines of forgiveness and healing. I know that she didn't feel relief when her Grandfather died, even though he did terrible things. I know you asked for people who feel the same way. But details are lacking to compare. I am sorry that you did not have the father you wanted. Hopefully you can BE the father you wanted. -
I know I wouldn't be able to focus with 9999 posts.

My wife is to the day. She will eat her cereal with milk one day and the next day its expired and she throws it out. I tell her that the milk doesn't know the date placed on it and there is no magical spell placed on it to make it go bad on that date. Every time we have quite the humorous argument. I, like others use the dates as a "check to make sure it's still good to eat" if it has expired. Topical medicines we toss around the expiration, I was once burned on my face for using expired facial cleanser, although my wife said that isn't what made me look this way (completely joking of course) we like face jokes.
