  1. I am reminded of that saying from the Godfather: Once you think you are out, they drag you back in (or something along those lines) Welcome back becca.
  2. I say meet with the Bishop and discuss your concerns with him. Be honest and up front about what you do and do not believe.
  3. I like this one line from "The Walking Dead"Herschal "I always believed in the Resurection. I just didn't think it would be like this" *Please excuse the spelling.
  4. I think you should re-name the thread. You weren't "Frisked for being Mormon". You were pulled aside because they saw an anomoly that just happened to be your garments.
  5. I'm not going to get into details, but it has shaken her testimony. Let me use an example.***THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXAMPLE AND NOT WHAT THE CHURCH BELIEVES***** For years you are told that the sky is blue because God used a rollerbrush to paint it. You go on a mission and people tell you no he used a paint gun. You defend your position because that's what you are told from the leaders of your faith. 15 years after your mission a book is written that is well researched and proven to be factual in its accounts. In that book it states that God did indeed use a paint gun to paint the sky. How would you feel about the leaders of your faith at that point? How could you believe anything else that they claim is true? ****THE PRECEDING WAS AN EXAMPLE AND NOT WHAT THE CHURCH BELIEVES*********** That's where my wife is. And she feels that if she talks with anyone about it, she'll be labelled as an Apostate, a sinner, deceived, etc.
  6. I find this highly offensive. It is simplistic, arrogant, and sounds very "Holier-than-thou". My wife is going through a faith crisis at the moment and I know that if someone told her this, she would never set foot inside a church building again, and probably neither would I. My wife had a strong testimony until she read some factual stuff about Joseph Smith. Not from anti souces, but from credible sources (Bushman's book Rough Stone Rolling). She has made it her goal to avoid anti sites because she knows how biased they are. Her testimony is weaker now and doesn't always attend, but it's not because of sin. It's because the church hasn't been fully up front with it's history.
  7. So the next time that I am sad, I'll need to repent? Will I need to see the Bishop? Me - "Hi Bishop. I need to talk with you. I've sinned. Last week I was unhappy for day or two." Bishop - "Ummmmmm"
  8. You're comparing health care to luxury items? So unless you can afford some sort of coverage, you shouldn't be allowed to recieve medical treatment? Sorry, I disagree. The humane thing to do would be to treat everyone equal as far as basic medical coverage and no one should be turned away because they do not have insurance. Is it not our duty as human beings to help those in need? To lift society up? To strive to be/do better? If not, then why are we here? Now, let me go put on my flame suit as I'm sure I'll get bashed because I'm from Canada where we have universal health care and I don't understand your situation.
  9. Seriously? So you're saying that we should make these boys feel even more like outsiders and not give them support and loving just because they aren't attracted to women? Please show me where God said to shun people who are different? It's this kind of attitude that causes these young men to take their lives.I seem to recall a leader saying "Love the sinner, hate the sin", or something like that.
  10. The O.P. knows nothing of the two people involved. They don't even know the names. If it was me who smacked my older daughter on the behind and then I was called into the Bishop's office to explain myself, that would probably be my last day in that ward or even church altogether. If people know nothing of the relationship, they should "butt" out.

If he's only in it for the money, he'll sign. If he wants to win a championship, he should sign. If he signs, it's win/win for him. He needs to start being the leader for when Kobe is no longer there, and Kobe needs to start letting him lead for when he retires. We just had something similar happen to our hockey team this year. The leader of the team (Jarome Iginla) was the leader for 9 years. The team was going no where and they traded him. People needed to step up and take his place, not easy. People did and we won something like 75% of our remaining games. The Lakers can avoid the sudden loss if Kobe allows Howard to assume some of the leadership roles now so he is ready when he needs to be.
  12. My wife and I started this about 2 weeks ago. I;m down 4.5 and my wife is down 4.3. So far so good. The big thing is to make sure that you track your food. I didn't for the second week and only lost 0.3. Good luck.
  13. Flat fronts with Slip on shoes. My choice.
  14. Winter Olympics PC. The Summer Olympics were in Seoul. That was when Ben Johnson disgraced our country.
  15. Went to the ski jumping during the '88 Olympics and watched Eddie "The Eagle" jump. Don't remember who won, but I remember the worst jumper ever! Several Calgary Flames games (back when they were good). Lots of CFL games, even a few basketball games when the Calgary 88's were around (not NBA, but a second tier league). I also went to the Vancouver Indy when they were running and the Mantreal Grand Prix. Tired to get into a Manchester United game when I was in England and would love to go to an NFL game sometime.
  16. Yeah, that's in the upstairs TV room. That's where we watch our movies on the big screen. The room I was talking about is the family room with the smaller TV.Upstairs: TV PVR Surround sound Blu-Ray PS2 Wii Downstairs: TV PVR Sound Bar WD Internet TV (for Netflix) You'd think I had a remote fetish or something!!
  17. We had looked at our current house online and thought, Meh. But we went and looked at it. Nice community, close to my sons new school and it had a basement suite for the in-laws. It was perfect. We looked at a couple of others but it came down to this one. We put an offer in and it was countered. We countered that and they caved. Two months later we moved in!!! 4 months after that we discovered a leak in the basement. Pulled the walls to fix the leak and there was mold. Lots of it. Lots and lots of it. So my inlaws got a new bathroom and revised kitchen cabinets and we were out almost $7000. Now the house is perfect and we couldn't be happier (except with maybe a little one running around, but that doesn't seeme to be in the cards). This summer will mark our 1 year move in date and we will be fixing up the back yard with a patio and a gazebo to house out fire pit!! LOVE IT!!!!!
  18. You're complaining about using two remotes? I have one for the TV, one for the PVR, one for the soundbar and one for the Internet TV. The PVR controls both the TV and the box, but not the soundbar. The Internet TV remote controls that box and the TV, but not the sound bar. In fact, if I use the Internet TV I need to use the TV speakers because the soundbar is hooked up to the PVR only. Drives my wife nuts!!!
  19. Ok, so this is technically 2 lines but it's good anyways: "I am not asking you to pretend to Faith you do not have. I am asking you to be true to the Faith that you do have." - Jeffrey R Holland - April 2013
  20. 1-1.5 hours is nothing. We were married, then had a family lunch, then had a 3 hour drive home, then a 3 hour reception. It was a long day. We were almost too tired at the end of the day. Almost!
  21. I was ordained a High Priest at the age of 37 with no specific calling at the time. A year later, our branch formed a High Priest Group of which I was the 1st assistant. The way that I have seen it work is that if the elder is older than the majority of the other elders and the Bishop thinks that he would be more comfortable in the older High Priest Group, then he is asked to attend. Not always are they ordained. My father-in-law is in his late 60's and still an elder, but he has attended the High Priest Group for many years. He will probably never be ordained a High Priest due to mental issues, but he will always attend the Group.

I thought this article was interesting about Howard. Never thought I would see the day when they start talking about life after Kobe. Dwight Howard Must Be 'The Man' for Lakers After Kobe Bryant's Eventual Return | Bleacher Report
  23. Um, No. Only Jesus is the Messiah.
  24. At home - Turning 40 - Stupid, stupid, stupid. In Theater - The Great and Powerful Oz - Boring and predictable Last good movie - Life of Pi (at home) - Les Mis (Theater)
  25. This is sad. Just recently we had a former leader of our province passed away. He had to make some tough choices that upset a lot of people. But when he retired, our province was the strongest in Canada had had NO DEBT!!! He did upset a lot of people, however, there were very few people who said "Good riddance". People who say these kind of things to people who did what they believed in because they believed it was for the greater good, are the lowest kind of people. Let the dead rest in peace. They only did what they thought was best for the greater good. If you have nothing nice to say about someone who has passed on, then keep your mouth shut.
