Crypto got a reaction from Backroads in Tax = theft?
I'm not quite sure how opinions on taxes apply to not being charitable. Taxes fund political endeavors, and often projects, some of which will be charitable some of which will not.
The first thing to understand is that from a conservative perspective it is not the role of government to take care of the poor and needy, it is each individual as a collective' s duty.
The more liberal mindset is that the government should take care of the poor and needy (and through taxes or other methods via government everyone contributes)
The statistics on charitable contributions is higher among conservatives than liberals. (My source is a freakanomics podcast). So even if there is disagreement about taxes it has little to do with if people are charitable or not.
Either political view is still concerned about the poor and needy and their fellow man. To state otherwise is to misrepresent both.
(Also appealing to law and/or majority as morally good are both logical fallacies)

Intellectually, feelings are not a solid form of evidence. However to deny our emotions and feelings is to deny a part of our very humanity. Emotions are largely our guide to morals, such as a near universal feeling that murdering people for "fun"(I really can't see murder as fun) is intrinsically wrong. Emotions act as a compass that point us towards the things we think intellectually, are motivated to do, and believe. As such I personally believe emotions have validity, not as solid evidence, nor as something that can't mislead, just as logic can also mislead, but as the compass that it seems to be.
On the spiritual side of things, the holy ghost is described as a still small voice. You Don't have to feel a burning bosom to be feeling the holy ghost. Actually I think the holy ghost speaks through quiet feelings of peace and comfort more so than other methods. I Don't think the spirit is exactly the same as my regular emotions, but I'd take into consideration where that compass of yours is pointing towards. (The holy ghost is like a compass to Isn't it? Maybe that's why we describe it like feelings or a prompting)

Look at Galatians 5:22-23. Look at Doctrine and Covenants Sections 8, 9, and 50.  Read Alma, Chapter 32. Consider Parley P. Pratt's statement in Key to the Science of Theology:

Consider Joseph Smith's observation during the King Follett discourse:

In LDS teaching, the Holy Ghost isn't just about feeling--there are elements of "resonating", of enlightenment and intelligence and some sort of palpable spiritual growth and change.

I would also suggest that you consider the difference between "passion" and "feeling".  Think back to the times you had a "gut feeling" that turned out to be right, and see if you can distinguish it from the feelings or passions that have led you into error.

    Best of luck!

To start, my intended usage of extortion was as a synonym to theft. It wasn't too important to the idea what type of theft I portrayed.

The argument is that taxes can be theft when certain criteria are met, but that not all taxes are theft, since I believe there is nuance.

Government is simply a macro form of a community, and communities exist and thrive to some extent by sharing resources, whether that is land and the food thereon, time, talent, effort, belongings, or money to maintain generally agreed upon societal standards. Such as a tribe where hunters share the hunted food they capture, and get vegetables from what others have gathered, or baskets to hold stuff etc.

Modern society is a little more complex and has several generally agreed upon institutions that the society pools resources to maintain, military, police, schools, infrastructure, etc. Whether it is maintained by donation of time, effort, or money.

Taxes is simply the mandated pooling of resources to maintain that society if you wish to benefit from such pooling, It is an exchange or trade. You are not forced to pay taxes, but when residing in a jurisdiction that pooled resources cover there are penalties associated with not paying taxes to offset the benefits, since it would be difficult to prohibit you from benefiting, and act as a deterrent from free loading.  The alternative is to move to a territory without pooled resources (something increasingly difficult in the modern era)

Considering no two individuals will exactly align in how they view society should be set up, it is untenable to create a system that fits all.

Now if you stated something more similar to the more central the government authority, the less there authority on what should rightfully be regulated at a community or local level I would agree with you.

That being said, there are times when taxes are/can be tantamount to theft.

    Or...another way to put it:

    Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;

That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of death. D&C 121:43-44

So for what sort of damaging, addictive sin would you NOT tell him that? That is, in what sense is this any different from any other sinful and addictive habit your son might adopt?

When women, especially LDS women, "condemn" pornography, they often do so by leaving their husbands or otherwise deciding that their marriage is null and void. Unless their husband is unrepentant, this is condemnable behavior. I have occasionally heard women at Church talking about such things, and I cannot but believe that at least some of their husbands have had issues with porn. (We had a stake-wide concentration on pornography for probably five years, at least, so it was clearly an issue.) I have pretty much never heard any compassion expressed in such conversations.

I recall people on this very forum making (or at least reporting) statements along the lines of, "I'd rather my husband commit adultery than view porn." I mean, this is lunacy. It makes no sense at all.

If you found out your son was involved in pornography, and would actually take that opportunity to tell him what a piece of filth he was instead of reaffirm your love and tell him he needed to get away from it, then you are not the man I think you are. And I'm pretty confident that, in this case, you are not the man I don't think you are.

I am willing to bet that if you found out your son had a problem with pornography, you would not tell him what a filthy, worthless piece of subhuman scum he was and then throw him out of the house.

Since you already admit there are things you can work on as well, I won't go there, but I did want to express that temper and verbal abuse is a valid reason to want refuge (and to protect your children) even if your spouse has never physically struck you. You don't need physical scars as proof that things have grossly crossed the line.
I'd recommend seeking counselling from someone that specialises in at risk and troubled marriages. Go with your husband or go alone but get some outside perspective.

How is it that we preach leaving judgement to God but then feel comfortable judging someone?

Saying someone isn't going to hell is just as judgmental as saying someone is.

I say we leave such judgment to God...good and bad...righteousness and wickedness.

It's not comforting, but this is a common phase through which most relationships will go through to a lessor or greater degree. Both Husband and Wife will need to work through it, to accept each other for who they are. Most couples develop true love, agἀpe, over time, and it takes work. Eros is what attracts them to each other. *

My recommendation is similar to LiterateParakeet, find some counsel. Do Not vent to parents, friends, or colleagues about it. (There are always exceptions to this, but don't expect them to be a therapist, and it can cause more trouble)

Invest maybe in the languages of love book that is sometimes recommended. Read it together and practice it together. Hey Just like Scriptures right ;D !

    Everything?

I mean, more time is life is simply more time to do all the things I haven't been able to get around to yet.
Unless infinite possibilities sounds boring. People continue to play the same [sport] over and over again and enjoy it. A hobby is essentially people doing things they enjoy repetitively.

This idea of eternal boredom baffles me. We won't be sitting on clouds strumming harps in the chilly weather eternally.

The idea behind "White Privilege" is simply an inversion of discrimination, subtly diverting attention from the woes of racism, to the partially alleged benefits, partially privileged benefits of another skin color.

The problem is still racism, whether you look through the looking glass of "privilege" or "disadvantage".

This is helpful, though it seems like continually bringing up white privilege only makes matters worse. We complain about the nastiness of white privilege attacks because we have only seen it as an attack. It's dividing and helps no one.

I'll admit that white privilege exists.  So does tall privilege (I'm 6' 4").  My status as an American and a Protestant Christian helped me getting a teaching job in Korea.  So...do I take some things for granted?  Yes.  Might I be ignorant of some hurdles that African-Americans (and short people, and religious minorities) face?  Of course.

What I loathe is that phrase, "Check your privilege."  It's all the rage in college classroom discourses these days.  Professors sometimes invoke it.  The meaning?  "Be quiet.  You don't understand because of your privilege, so you get to just listen now."

We all have our perspectives, our privileges, and our blindspots.  Yes...we should listen more.  However, to tell someone to be quiet  because of their background is "rude much."

    I skimmed through the articles.

I saw the bullet point on what "white privilege" is.  I have no problem with the idea that everyone should have the same privileges as a white person does (assuming which we usually do that it is the top)  In fact I think that was the whole point of Martin Luther's I have a dream speech.  I have no problem with the idea of trying and working toward lifting everyone to that level.

But I have to agree with JAG that is not how the accusation of "white privilege", or "male privilege" or even "white male privilege" is commonly used.  In my experience it is used to try to get me to shut up, sit down, and take whatever 'they' think is fair from me.  And that is just not going to happen.

Pull others up...  sure... try to pull me down.  No way.
