  1. I've seen the damage that pornography addiction can do to a marriage. I wouldn't do anything until you have had this addiction under control for at least a year. Anything less would be premature and acting too quickly.
  2. If you want to talk with an older person, try @Vort or @pam. If you want a really old person, try @zil
  3. Not completely to the point, but probably still worth thinking about: Doctrine and Covenants, 42: 88 - 93 88 And if thy brother or sister offend thee, thou shalt take him or her between him or her and thee alone; and if he or she confess thou shalt be reconciled. 89 And if he or she confess not thou shalt deliver him or her up unto the church, not to the members, but to the elders. And it shall be done in a meeting, and that not before the world. 90 And if thy brother or sister offend many, he or she shall be chastened before many. 91 And if any one offend openly, he or she shall be rebuked openly, that he or she may be ashamed. And if he or she confess not, he or she shall be delivered up unto the law of God. 92 If any shall offend in secret, he or she shall be rebuked in secret, that he or she may have opportunity to confess in secret to him or her whom he or she has offended, and to God, that the church may not speak reproachfully of him or her. 93 And thus shall ye conduct in all things. On the other hand........ 2nd John 9 - 11 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
  4. oracle, serious violations of the law of chastity will not prevent you from going on a mission as long as they have been fully confessed and repented of and the proper procedures have been followed. Someone asked about this on this forum just the other day. Here is their question: About 10 months ago I had to wait to go on my mission due to some violations of the law of chastity. I recently found out that after a year of waiting, I should be able to find out when I can go again. In about 2 months the priesthood authorities and I will submit our letters to the mission office. My question is, does anyone know how long it should take once those letters are in to hear back from the mission office? I've heard of it taking a very short time in some circumstances, me in others, several months. I'm just curious to know if I should be returning to school in He meantime, if I should start buying stuff and packing now, etc. Thank you in advance!! You might want to have a look at the discussion here
  5. and you're such a cowie
  6. I don't quite understand the question. You're saying how pressed you are for temple staff but you are advocating for longer opening hours? Wouldn't that simply exacerbate the staffing shortage? It sounds instead of encouraging members to go to the Temple on Sundays, they should be encouraged to go out and do missionary work instead.
  7. I know of someone in my stake who was in this same situation. My understanding is that the problems with the violation of the law of chastity did not have any impact on the length of time it took for a mission application to be processed and a call issued. The timing associated with these things is always highly variable and very difficult to predict. I endorse what @Jane_Doe and @DoctorLemon have said - you'll have plenty of time to prepare and try to relax and enjoy the pre-mission down time in ways that will minimise the likelihood of any more temptations or violations.
  8. What you get out depends on what you put in, so if you feed your brown cows lots of chocolate milk............
  9. Think about the consequences - if going out to celebrate such an important milestone will make both of you feel good, even just for a night, then go out. If going out will make one of you feel guilty or remorse, then find another way to celebrate that won't cost as much. Whether you go out or not, the important thing is to find a way to celebrate that you will both enjoy and feel good about and remember fondly. I've always thought that its not where you go or what you do that makes for a good occasion, but who you're with and how you feel about each other.
  10. When visitors arrive from Heaven, whether God, Christ, or Angels, the records we have indicate that they are always dressed. The description of Moroni's "clothes" in JS - H vs 31 may be of interest: 31 He had on a loose robe of most exquisite whiteness. It was a whiteness beyond anything earthly I had ever seen; nor do I believe that any earthly thing could be made to appear so exceedingly white and brilliant. His hands were naked, and his arms also, a little above the wrist; so, also, were his feet naked, as were his legs, a little above the ankles. His head and neck were also bare. I could discover that he had no other clothing on but this robe, as it was open, so that I could see into his bosom.
  11. This scripture has always bothered me and when I come across it, I sometimes think about it. One example: I suspect that in the pre-existence, while we were in the presence of God, there was probably very little in the way of punishment or misery - but there surely was God. And in the celestial kingdom, in the presence of God, there will surely be very little in the way of punishment and misery. And yet Nephi is suggesting that in the absence of punishment and misery there can be no God. I find this to be a difficult conclusion to agree with.
  12. I could be wrong about this, but its my understanding that the main ingredient of chocolate milk does indeed come from brown cows - and white cows and black cows, and spotted cows.
  13. As the father of a currently serving missionary, I hope that the members in the branch where my son is serving will always respond positively when asked by the missionaries for assistance. Education is important but the highest priority always has to be the saving of souls and the work associated with that task, so I recommend saving first and educating later. As the first Australian born missionary serving in the first, newly created Chinese branch in an Australian mission, with a mainland Chinese companion as his trainer, my son has a lot of cultural issues to work through.
  14. Great decision, Kimberley, probably the best decision you've ever made. May you find joy and happiness, and be able to share this joy with others. Something drew you here from Europe and now you've answered the call!
  15. No need to wait - move to Australia!
  16. The existence of the FLDS is the main reason why I so firmly disagree with the teaching, that is sometimes taught even by apostles, that if you believe the Book of Mormon is true, and if you know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, then you know the church must be true. It's my understanding that the FLDS believes that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a prophet but that they do not believe this church to be true.
  17. I haven't read all of the posts so I don't know what your current situation is or if you have or have not yet said anything to your bishop or Stake President. If you haven't, and if you are still delaying this essential step in your progression and repentance, then may I suggest that you write out your confession, in full, in detail, in all sincerity, and email it to one or both of them. The last line of your letter should say something like "Please ask your executive secretary to call me so we can make an appointment so I can tell you this face to face." If you write it all and send it to them prior to actually meeting with them, then by the time you actually meet with them they will already know the full details, and you need not be concerned about seeing any signs of shock or disappointment. I expect that all you would see would be love, care, compassion and concern.
  18. I think this is something on which we are in complete agreement. Congratulations on finally, belatedly reaching the obvious conclusion that all who know you probably realised very quickly, years ago. While I'm reluctant to discuss all of your development needs in a public forum let me suggest that perhaps the first three items on what would surely be a very long list of your developmental needs should be 1) social skills 2) penmanship and 3) the ability to write an interesting and thought provoking post Ps. I say this as a caring friend who would love to see you develop your full potential
  19. I think I know a few automormons, (or maybe they've had the app implanted?) but unfortunately, they don't do even half of these functions
  20. I think its the North Korean people who should be the most concerned.
  21. I'm looking for an app to do my scripture reading for me, does anyone have any suggestions?
  22. I’ve also come across this idea that in our journey towards godhood, we would have to take our turn at being a Christ. The support for this idea came from the difference between Matthew 5:48 and 3rd Nephi 12:48 where in the first reference, Christ, who had not yet been resurrected, says be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect, and in the second scripture, after His resurrection, Christ says be ye there even as I or your Father in Heaven is perfect, the implication being that in order to become perfect, one must first pass through what Christ did in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross. I’m not saying I agree with the idea, I’m just pointing out that others have claimed that the difference between these two verses gives support to the idea. (No idea why its all come out in bold, that wasn't intentional)
  23. I'm amazed that your standards of what constitutes good looking and wonderful are so low but I'm happy for you that you have this belief if it gives you comfort.
  24. And try to ignore those "guys" who have an over-inflated opinion of themselves, they're nothing but trouble.
