  1. Any food storage you have should be consumed regularly. And then storage replenished. So you know how (and that you can) prepare it, so that you know you can stomach it and eat it, so you know how you function when you do consume it, and ... so it doesn't get too old to use. dc
  2. What an excellent and easy to understand link. But it goes beyond truth, it includes the idea that those special ones reading are indeed thinking "but I really am special!" It may have a deeper infiltration into the LDS world, as I hear the word "Awesome!" far too much from a lot of the young ones. (Awesome, another word for 'special') dc I'm no mind reader, but I can't help but think you are thinking of coming back into the church. dc

  4. When I move into the new ward I'm looking at, I hope that you are there. I'm also interested in working at the Temple. And learning to use the back yard for some gardening. dc
  5. Jane Doe I have a heart of stone, but you just about break my heart here. I am glad to hear you are happy in your marriage. If a lady were to tell me she would convert to LDS for me I would drop any consideration of her immediately. That could only be a very shallow person. On the op's good side, he says nothing about converting after 4 1/2 years. dc
  6. I can't understand why someone would think someone of a different faith is "the one". Particularly different being LDS. There is just so much to it. It isn't like the Catholic Church, where you go to church on Sunday for one hour and that's it. It is a full time deal. I would like to remarry. And the first qualification I look for is ... faithful LDS in good standing with recommend. There is far more than enough difference, me being male, and she being female (2nd qualification) to give us all the "diversity" we might ever need. All kinds of "mixed" marriages MIGHT work, and probably some do. But I do believe it's less than half that do. The general divorce rate is very high where they are not mixed. Why lessen the odds? I think you are barking up the wrong tree, and just don't know it. Jane Doe and yjacket have set it out rather explicitly. dc
  7. Nobody is trivializing it. Was it or was it not your decision? Did you or someone else make the decision? Who can make the decision for you to come back? You, or someone else? dc
  8. The reasons are varied. The net result is the same. They want to leave. They make excuses to do so. They leave. dc
  9. The excuses they use to leave the church are a cop out. dc
  10. 100 posts? I'm not going to read them all. Why do people leave the church? Because they want to. I think it's absurd to think they left because somebody said the wrong thing, because they disagree with this or that policy, or whatever. The decision is still that personal decision to leave all that there is to the church (which to me is a very large lot) because of ... whatever. I think it's simple. They just want to give it up. dc
  11. You are hardly talking about all of the sinners with this thread prisonchaplain. There are vast armies of them out there today. We are quite a small minority. And then there are the "easy" churches. The cafeteria Mormons. It's all sad, yes, but no one ever said it was going to be easy. dc
  12. The pattern I see is I guess the bizarro world. The bizarro world grows and develops and encompasses all things. Right becomes wrong, and wrong becomes right until everything is turned around, backward. And ultimately, Satan reigns. dc
  13. Anatess2 We are not Filipinos. I think most of us are not. I think most of us understand that you are but now live here. I look to you for education on these topics. I have no idea who is who nor what they will do. I just raise the issue that we heard the great hue and cry some years ago from certain people, Mexican, south American and others who saw Hugo Chavez as some great hope for not only Venezuela but perhaps all of south America. And maybe central America too. And we know it didn't happen right. In fact it all happened horribly wrong. And we know why it happened all wrong. Now, I hope things will be different in the Philippines. And I would say by your enthusiasm that you think it will all be different. I was just asking how. And how is he different or similar to Donald Trump. dc
  14. I cannot read thru' 140 responses. That's just too much for me. However, I did skim Gator and gave a thanks. And from the first page highlights I saw Travelers response above. There you have it. The government proved that you cannot cure "poverty" if there is any real poverty in this country by handing out money. The Johnson administration (a few years ago?) declare a "War on Poverty" and started handing out money on a wholesale basis. And today they report there is MORE POVERTY THAN OVER! How do you figure? They have no idea what poverty is, nor what causes it. It isn't that someone doesn't have enough money. Because there is no such thing as enough money. There is only that thing that we all need to remember, if we have, that we have 'sufficient for our needs'. dc
  15. I suppose I'm worthy. I'm not certain if I get a paper on that or anything. Or do I? I can mention I went to 3 sessions at the Manti Temple this week, 2 on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday. I say that not to brag, but to testify as to how much I love the Endowment session, and particular the Manti Temple version, which is presented live, with live people, just like in Salt Lake. And to encourage anyone who has not been there to go. They just finished the Manti Mormon Pageant Saturday. Which is another reason to visit Manti in June. That's not why I went but many people do. dc
  16. Well, I hope he doesn't turn out to be another Hugo Chavez. There is a happy medium, you know. dc
  17. I think they wanted me to sustain. They maybe wanted me to feel 'a part of' or something. I was going to do that on my own. There is no record kept of any sustaining vote. Only the objections are "noted" but only in the sense that they notice that there was an objection. Then they are merely told to see their Bishop or Stake President. Between going with you or the missionaries, I will have to go with them. They are "official". So far I don't know if you are "official" or not. The church may call it sustaining as that is the historical term, I suppose, but I think it's actually a "vote of confidence". That is how I shall consider it. As a vote of confidence. dc
  18. Who are the Lord's anointed? All of us? Or the 12 or 15? Further, is making a true remark about someone, at least from my point of view, is that speaking evil? What is speaking evil? dc
