  1. Sort of reminds me of cats. When a cat finds a nicer house where he gets more food, or better food, or more affection, he stays over there. Then maybe he only comes home to eat, then goes back over there. Your sister has found this new family (his) and it seems she is happier over there. It was inevitable anyway. You may have been close and all when you were younger, but eventually she grows up, gets married, moves away, and hardly has time at all for you. However, if as younger girls you two fought like cats and dogs, then the inevitable is even more understandable. You are going to the wedding, aren't you? At least she didn't 'not invite' you. dc
  2. You know, rather than just dictating out the conclusion, it would be better if you were to just post a photo. Then we could draw our own conclusions. But, even without a photo, I will say 'no tie - not well dressed'. I don't know what church you attend, but the one I go to, it's about 99% ties and WHITE, notice I said white shirts. Except for some kids or teenagers, and you know about them. You are going to worship our heavenly father, our lord. Why not be better dressed. dc
  3. 337 posts and Vort wasn't in there? That seems like it may be a record or something. I couldn't read 14 pages, and I've been busy since Wednesday, so I just saw this. I'm surprised it went on to 14 pages. dc
  4. I'd say a big wimp when it comes to discipline is a woman with a lot (or too much) heart. Believe me the kids need to learn discipline. I think as a general rule, women tend to think with their heart, rather than their head. I understand not always, nor all men and women, just more than half. dc
  5. Maybe I'm simply all wrong, then. Maybe it's a Yankee thing. But the peaches. Yes. Georgia is the Peach state, you know, which must mean they grow and eat a lotta peaches there. dc
  6. I think it's a southern thing, mostly. It would be Utahns with a southern background or influence. Or maybe poor southern. The only thing I ever had like that was peaches in milk or cream. Apparently that is a somewhat southern thing also, so my father in law was curious as to where the influence for that came from. Probably a magazine with regard to cooking that my mother read. Unless it was an old European thing that my grandmother started. Or it could have been old American from my American grandmother. dc
  7. pam Sometimes I can click on the sign in and I reappear. But most times I have to sign in with user name and password and x the box for remember me. But then next time I leave and come back a day later, it didn't remember me. Only on rare occasions does the sign in button make me immediately reappear. dc
  8. For me it all depends on who I am with. For most occasions, I suppose I just need to wear my work clothes, if I want to look good. Or ok. Of course having worked as a law clerk and then Attorney for more than 40 years, my work clothes are 3 piece suit or suit and tie, and WHITE shirt. And notice I said white. There is nothing that gives a poor impression (to me, anyway) than a purple shirt on an Attorney. Purple? No. This is California. That means casual. It should not mean sloppy, but it does. Comfort is important. But sometimes, it's just nice to have women compliment one on how nice they look. dc
  9. Ditto I mean, my avatar is still ruined. Plus, the website logs me out every time I leave. The remember me function still doesn't work. dc
  10. Ironhold In this current political and socio climate I am going to say it may well NOT be a dead bang winner. dc
  11. Amazon doesn't sell what I bought there. No one does. dc
  12. NightSG I want to make a little suggestion here, which I hope does not offend your religious sensibilities, if it might, the read no further. I don't want the HR agents after me, nor the Inquisition, for that matter. Let me suggest that if you think you might go broke on hot chocolate, then maybe you should be out looking for a job, not sitting around chit chatting. dc
  13. Big deal. As a first time buyer I got 50% off at Deseret books. dc
  14. What on earth do you mean, save the house and senate? The house and senate were lost long ago. Does the term RINO mean anything to you? dc
  15. Then get on the bandwagon. It's the only possible hope we have. dc
  16. I have had difficulty in life in enjoying the many blessings I have been given. As a result, I had to learn how to appreciate all I have. To look toward it all with appreciation. I found about the self fulfilling prophecy. If I state that I will feel good the next day the night before, I usually feel good the next day. So I have to make a conscious effort to appreciate it all. And when I do, I feel rather good. Even tho' I know I have a lot less than a whole lot of other people. But still I think about those less fortunate than me. The husband leaving the church? That is difficult, as you really have no control over that. I don't have a wife but if I had one, I would definitely want her to stay in the church. dc
  17. I too have been mistaken for a Jew on more than one occasion. But frequently that is related to being a lawyer. Some people just think any lawyer is a Jew. I also have been told I am not Jewish, but that was by an idiot who probably thought I couldn't be Jewish cause I didn't have a big nose. Apparently he, in his wisdom, never heard of Fixed Nose Jews. I knew that some Jews did have their nose fixed, but I didn't realize there was a specific name for it until a girlfriend (Jewish) told me that, remarked about them. In college and law school there were a high percentage of Jews, female, I didn't ever notice the males, and I was attracted to many of them. As a result I befriended, well actually more than friends, a fair number of them. That was long before I joined this church, just so you know. They have a law of celibacy here, I don't think the Jews know about that one. dc
  18. Different. Each one is different. Some are ok. Some, I can take them or leave them. dc Mostly friendly or at least somewhat responsive. Of course my interaction has been limited to law students, lawyers, and Judges.
  19. My concern is the result. No beast in the White House. (After the current one leaves, I mean.) dc
  20. The short hair and no beard i think actually dates back to Roman soldiers, in the day before the day, before ... way back there. I have only been in the church one year. I have short military style hair but a full neatly trimmed beard. I know, as I have been informed that to serve as Bishop I may need to be remarried (i"m working on it) and shave. And also to work in the Temple. And our ward Patriarch (before he moved on to Utah) I think itched to get me to shave, tho' he only talked about it, and didn't tell me to shave. One member in our stake told of being in SLC and Elder Ezra Taft Benson getting into the elevator with him. He (our member) had a mustache at the time (70s or so?) and Elder Benson merely said "mustaches are inappropriate". To this day our brother is clean shaven. It's obedience, it's conformity. Which I think is a good thing. If you are a member, walk, talk and act like it. And wear the robe like all the others do, also. My only problem is I don't think I look good without a beard any more. All my youthful good looks have worn off. dc
  21. Well, more specifically, I mean does it matter if they vote for him because they think he's a great guy, or whatever, or just that they don't want the hella beast? I don't think it matters. dc
  22. Yeah, it's funny how the only country they have to put a wall around to keep people IN is ... "the socialist workers ... PARADISE?" DC
  23. Does it matter? I talked to a fellow today and he (a Latino) said he doesn't care if Donald Trump does hate Mexicans, he will vote for him. I will too. (Not that we believe that Donald Trump does hate Mexicans, we know he doesn't) And the reason he stated is that all of the candidates are the same. There basically is little or no difference in a Rep or Dem any more. The Reps are the "Me Too" party today. Whatever the Dems propose (higher taxes, more spending, more government give-aways) the Reps chime in, oh, we want that too. More laws, oh yes, we want that too. Some of them even one up the Dems and propose more of whatever the evil is. So Trump is like a refreshing breath of fresh air. Something different. You know what you get with all the others. Something bad. There are no guarantees with Trump. But at least he proposes something totally different. dc And the more the "Establishment", both left and right attack him, the more I believe there must be something really good about him.
  24. I think we are saying the same thing. The non productive player doesn't get millions, does he? And his social value if he can't score the points is ... less. Social value is determined by the society. Unions get teachers what pay they get. The social value of teachers today is rather low. Particularly in view of the job they do in not teaching anything, like how to think, but in promoting or propagandizing the agenda. dc
  25. You keep harping about "people". But I suggest you don't know what you are talking about. Are not the ceos people? Are not the stockholders people? Are not those who profit also people? Or do you mean only those certain people who you decide should matter? Is there such a thing as a profit without a person, or "people" behind it? Does not the system reward "people" according to their productivity and social value? Do you not understand you can pay "people" to produce something useless, that cannot be sold, to your heart's content. Or you can do something with your life other than seek profit all you want. But where do you come off thinking the world has appointed you to impose your misguided ideas upon others? dc
