Dress code has changed for Elders in some missions

All I ever saw them in was a white shirt and a tie. I thought that was the official uniform. Maybe jackets for Sacrament Meeting. But not in the Amazon basin. Vegas might be a little cooler in the winter. dc -
President Boyd K. Packer passed away.
David13 replied to Str8Shooter's topic in Church News and Events
My thoughts are I'm going to have to read a lot of his talks to find out what my favoritie is and all that. My other thought was, 10 children, 60 grandchildren, and 103 great grandchildren? Wow! What a birthday party he would have had. May he rest in peace. I guess for certain there will be quite a few people at the funeral. Ok, I read that he was described as a Conservative Mormon, and that in 1993 he said the greatest threats to the church come from feminists, homosexuals, and intellectuals. I like the way he thought. dc -
what would be the right and responsible thing to do?
David13 replied to Backroads's topic in Advice Board
I would say family comes first and family together for an outing comes very first. As a child, my best memories of the family were at the lake in the summer, or winter, for ice fishing. I notice when they do go, they always say "I have business to take care of". That's ok. Family business. dc -
I knew that. But I guess nobody likes me. Nobody ever sends me private messages. Maybe it's better that way. dc

A few weeks ago in Sacrament meeting, the regular organist was out, so the fill in organist had a problem with the organ, where on certain notes, they came out all wrong. It sounded almost laughable funny, but I couldn't say anything, other than later compliment the fill in organist. I know I would have done worse on the organ. Then in Gospel Doctrine, the teacher was using his cell phone/internet/scriptures and in the middle of chapter 24 it jumped back to the middle of chapter 23. Half the class didn't notice. I had to say something about that at the end and then others said, yes, it was confusing. Then in PH the lesson schedule showed chapter 11, so a teacher came in and did a good job teaching chapter 13. No one would say anything. At the end, the President announced "next week will be chapter 12." We are all human, and sometimes it gets a little humorous. dc

I have certainly heard enough about the Supreme Court ruling, and enough discussion on the internet to make me sick, which is what the first news of it made me anyway. And I sure don't go to church to discuss "hot topics" but the gospel and the priesthood and to learn. So I like the lessons to be just that; lessons. As to you Earljibbs, you are the future. Hopefully the future of the church. Participate. Learn. Dive in head first with both feet. You have got to be the leader in Priesthood in the future. The young people are going to need you to set a good example to them in the future. dc

C.O. I should relate an experience I had at a out of town ward I was visiting at Sacrament meeting. It makes your experience seem tame. It's too long a story, but concerned an extremely wild behaving female, perhaps age 50 or 60 who ominously chose to sit beside me thru' no fault of my own. (Other than there was space in my pew/row.) Suffice it to say I was able to sneak out after the service when she wasn't looking. The irony is that the speaker was speaking about how to keep the Sacrament meeting sacred, what not to do in Sacrament meeting, etc., all of which this woman was doing beside me. I stared straight ahead so as not to see her, seeing the speaker out of the corner of my eye. dc

They were willing to kill in defense of what they had done, and thought they had a right to do. Leave the union. And the only way it has ever been determined that they did not have the right to leave the union was determined on the battlefield. dc

Again, not really. All they did was leave the union. That's what their intention was, not to fight. dc

I visited St George and Torrey Utah in May for services. I found both places to have a very good and focused high Priest meeting with very excellent teachers who knew the material, the lesson, but kept it very lively by asking questions, asking and allowing brief anecdotes from the members, and also making a moving target (moving out to the sides from the podium). Basically the same as we have here in the Lomita Ward. Just good stuff. Now, I don't know about Alaska. Who knows what might go on up there. I'm tempted to say maybe they are all life long members and just bored with the material (know it backward and forward) but certainly in Utah, and also here the vast majority are life long members, and still entirely focused on the material. dc

That's pretty much the history. This revisionist idea that the Civil War was some great crusade by the North to end slavery is just that. A new idea that isn't true. dc

I will be. Who else? Post your contact info so that I might stop and say hello to you, or by pm. I believe the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be singing on both days? Is that correct? Or one day or what? It says that the talk and song will occur on Sunday from 9:30 to 10 with the choir. How are they going to do that if the choir is in the Conference Center for the Conference? dc

Need to confess to priesthood authority?
David13 replied to nate777's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
Well, this is an old thread, and I suppose the op is long gone. And done with this. But. I cannot understand how people say don't tell the Bishop. That should be done. If the Bishop says it's no big deal, ok. The wife must be told. This is a sin against the marriage and the wife. There can be no amends made without telling the wife and suffering the consequences. But I think the underlying problem here is this 'problem with intimacy' in the marriage. That also has to be dealt with. dc -
In 1972 at my last year as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan I had a professor, a retired lawyer, retired law professor who, in retirement wanted to teach undergraduates, in the hope that he could still do something in view of the revisionists who were busy taking over history, and education, even in those days.. He remarked how much had changed. That when he attended the University of Michigan, he rode a horse to school. I sat outside the Manti Temple last month just imagining the old days, with horses and horses and buggys bringing worshippers to the Temple, say, back in the 1890s. dc

Resigning from the Church

Resigning from the Church
David13 replied to David13's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Based on what the Pope has been saying lately, I'm happy to have nothing to do with the Catholic church anymore, anyway. As to making more money, or prosperity. I think you mostly would be the same. Now, you could say that without drunkeness you might do better financial wise. But that's debatable. There certainly are enough areas where alcohol fuels the success. There are jobs and professions where you have to share a drink, buy a drink, drink sociably. It's probably less so today, but a lot of people have no motivation without alcohol. That was what happened to my brother. The more he drank, the more money he made. It was all fueled by the alcohol. And that was what ultimately killed him. As to your drinking and smoking. That ain't no skin off my teeth, suit yourself. I have a Catholic friend who would never smoke, but he will relax with a small glass of wine in the late evening. He says it helps him relax and sleep better. Myself, I have no need in my life for any alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, including 99% of prescription drugs nor 'vaccines'. dc -
Resigning from the Church

10 year old Honda, Bentleys? Most definitely you should knock on those doors. You will find those people most gracious. They have a thing called Noblesse Oblige. dc Of course I shouldn't say anything about your drinking wine and smoking cigarettes, but it reminds me of a song I was thinking of a lot lately ... 'Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all, playin' solitaire til dawn, with a deck of 51, smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo ... Now don't tell me, I got nothin' to do ...' -

A Clean White Handkerchief
David13 replied to David13's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Aha I have found it. It is for Temple dedication. But was used in October 2000 by President Hinckley at the close as a dedication of the Conference Center. So I suppose that would then not be a regular part of the Conference. dc Now I guess I have to attend a Temple dedication. Which will be Provo I believe in February or so. I did make it to the Payson Temple open house, but not the dedication. -
As some of you may know, I plan to attend General Conference in Salt Lake City this coming October. I know in history, at some time, people came to General Conference with a clean white handkerchief. Is that still the case? I am trying to prepare across the board, and I would like to know about that. I suppose it is a bygone issue, but might that come back into the Conference? Thanks dc
