  1. don't ya mean, it's the fault of her boss who refused to pay her WHAT she is worth.
  2. I only tip a waitress/waiter if their service is good. If the food is not very good, I tell the waitress/waiter so that they can tell the cook. I also tell the manager if one is on duty. If the service was sloppy or if I had to constantly flag down my server I tell the manager. Having been an owner of a Tavern, I never expected to receive monetary tips when I worked a shift. Thus I never tip an owner. When I was a waitress/cocktail waitress & bartender for another establishment I never expected to receive tips. I served as though I were being paid $10.00 an hour and not the $3.75 that I did receive. Consequently I received the most tips. I then passed the largess on to my bartender (if he/she doesn't make the drinks in a timely fashion and correctly, then I can't serve good drinks in a timely fashion). Where I worked the cooks got paid the most- well above the minimum wage, so I never tipped them. The hairdresser who rents space is still an owner, he/she would have to lease/purchase a building to operate out of. Never would I consider tipping a tax consultant, lawyer, gardener, or the guy who dumps the trash into the truck. In 1997 my ex husband worked for the local garbage company, he was making $1200.00 a month, plus wonderful health benefits to drive the garbage truck and pick up trash 3 days a week and to sit at the dump site and take peoples money to dump their own trash 2 days a week. During that same time a friend of ours was a teller at the local bank and he was making $950.00 a week! So I never tip the garbage man either.
  3. just being nit picky here, but there is no E in tomato unless you make it plural as in tomatoes. Don't know who invented it, but I much prefer to have a Bacon, Fresh Spinach, Tomato with Miracle Whip on un-toasted Dark Rye bread.
  4. Yum, yum, yum. Sweet cream poured on Hershey's Chocolate Pudding Cake. Naps in the afternoon sunshine with Fred my cat snuggled into the small of my back.
  5. First of all, Welcome Back:bouncingclap:- missed you a lot, am so happy you are back posting! Now to your questions. I have a testimony of the rightness of the Gospel. I have a testimony of the aid, comfort and direction from the Holy Ghost. Because of these testimonies, I walk with faith in believing in Jesus Christ. I doubt lots of things, ideas, etc.,etc. When I am at a crossroads in which path to take regarding my spirituality, I turn to Jesus and to the Holy Ghost. When I have a clarity of thought, clarity of purpose then I know from past experience this is the path that Father says is okay to follow. Afraid of not knowing. Yes, we all are afraid of not knowing. Pick nearly any subject and at first we will be afraid of not knowing. Experience teaches us to either fear or not fear. I was fearful of my first husband. He said he would kill me and hurt my family if I displeased him, or if I left him. For 20 years I believed him. AFTER I came back to Church, learning the principles of the Gospel AND the Doctrines of the Gospel and the experiences where I was learning my testimonies and trusting the Holy Ghost in how He was guiding me, and comforting me, I came to the realization that 1st Husband would not make good his threats. So with faith in Father I left husband. I did not hide, or cower or go to great pains to avoid him. All of his threats were empty hot air. It was with a great leap of faith that I married husband #2. The Holy Ghost had witnessed to me that marrying Mr Iggy was T H E R I G H T move. I only knew Mr Iggy for 13 days. We married, I moved from Oregon to Arizona and not once have I ever regretted it. I thank Father daily for bringing Mr Iggy and myself together! I look at Mr Iggy now, as he is watching a Netflix program and my heart does a flip flop. I love this man, and I am Oh So Thankful we are together for eternity.
  6. Don't know why the commercial companies do, but I added it to help repel mosquitoes, fleas and tics. Plus the Vet said it was heart healthy. Her heart was stressed from lead poisoning. She also loved it. Onions & garlic. Plus it made her drink more water. Being on prednisone pills, she needed to drink more water. Oh, fyi- she smelled sweet and clean. Even the Vet was impressed. Her breath was sweet and clean too. Giving her beef rib bones two to three times a week helped with that too. Local tavern has All You Can Eat BBQ Ribs on Tuesday night. I knew the bartender and cooks, they would set aside 5 to 6 bones for her that I would pick up on Wednesday morning.
  7. After a quick search, this is what I found: Bolding is mine.
  8. Salvation Army, St Vincent dePaul, thrift stores- measure the inside rim of the pot where the lid will sit- it does NOT have to seal tight. I buy my glass lids at all of those places-I use lids on all of my casserole dishes, whether they came with one originally or not. That way I don't have to use plastic wrap, waxed paper or even a paper plate to cover the dish when I nuke in them. My husband loves soup bowls that are super size coffee cups, large enough to hold RTE can of soup - so far I have found 5 lids that fit. Of course those lids fit a lot of my round glass bowls too. I have a list in my purse of the measurements of my oval dishes too- actually made paper drawings of them & keep them folded up in my day planner - one day I will find a lid.
  9. Not me Not me, I prefer wearing the garments. Not just because I covenanted to wear them all the time, but because they are comfy.
  10. Apostles are always men is why.
  11. You get sunshine, just not near as much as other places. I was raised in Seattle, my family are all there and I live on the central Oregon Coast. To compensate for the cloudy days and oust the depression I use only real sunlight bulbs. One of the sisters in our branch has to use a special bulb a few times a day. She sits under it during her lunch break at work and then again at home. I lived in AZ for 6 years- will NEVER go there again! Talked to lots and lots of people living in TX- through my job, and the consensus- humid hot. Like kill/cook lobster humid hot! Eown is right on about the cost of living. Want to know what it would cost to live in any city, check out the store ads online. Safeway, Thriftway, Fred Meyer, Walmart, Albertsons, Etc. If you can't afford the sale prices, sure as shooting you can't afford regular. Also check out rental ads for the local newspapers or real estate agencies. Because Hubby is a Day Trader, we made sure the area we moved to had reliable and fast internet service. I wouldn't even consider reading the ad unless there were pictures of the house. Then I used googlemaps to check out the area. Love that program! I grew up in Seattle. Seattle is a huge city, so where are you considering living? My family lives in Shoreline, Mt. Lake Terrace, Enumclaw & Bothell. All are close to Seattle. I was raised in the Ballard area of Seattle. Then it was a sleepy, family orientated Scandinavian community, then it went downhill as the parents aged, children moved, parents died and wannabe gangs tried to take over. Now it is trending upscale. The old homes have been renovated, turned into duplexes or revamped. No one in my family can afford to live there now. When my folks bought the 5 bedroom, two story home with a nice yard they paid $90.00 a month on the mortgage. Bet the monthly rate would be 10 to 12x that now.
  12. Unless they want him fired so they don't have to pay him a pension- 27 years on the job!
  13. Be cautious with essential oils- they are oils and can stain clothes. Another way to keep from mustiness is to take out of the traveling bag and hang in the closet. My best friend in Church stored their Temple clothes in their travel bags in the garage. Whewie did they get moldy and stinky. NOTHING she did got them clean. Also when hanging in the closet, protect the neckline and shoulders with a portion of old sheet. The light from your closet can turn the white to yellow.
  14. Never wash anything other than your shirt, pants and socks in a machine. They will fall apart. Hand wash using a very mild soap, push and squeeze in the soapy water, do not wring, squeeze the soapy water out. Rinse well, squeeze the water out, then place on a large towel, roll up and push on the roll to get even more of the water out. Fold each item and hang on a separate hanger in the shower to dry. Don't drape over the shower rod- often there is grime that will transfer from the rod to your clothes. Use hangers and hang them from the shower rod. It was recommended to me to gather up three folds of the robe and using a straight pin, pinning them together at the hem. Do this until all the folds are gathered, pulling the folds down and straightening them out. Allow to air dry in the shower. Do not take to the dry cleaners. Do not put anything other than the shirt, pants and socks in the dryer. You really do not need to launder these items except for once every 5 years or longer. Not unless they get musty from being in a carry bag. I have had mine for 11 years and never have had a need to launder them. My dress yes, after every three or 4 times I have worn it. That is because it is always way to hot in the Temples for me and I end up perspiring so much. NEVER, NEVER Iron nylon or rayon. It will melt.
  15. I am in a small branch. At the beginning of the year it was even smaller than it is now. We had a boundary change and acquired around 50 households into our fold. Our numbers were nearly doubled. Our inactives were doubled as well. The original membership were thrilled to have the addition to our Branch- new people to fellowship with, more members to accept callings. No longer would the active members be wearing two to four hats. Have two to four callings. We have those who accept callings and then never do a thing with them. I really love our Branch President- he doesn't force you to accept a calling. He accepts No without dumping the Guilt Trip on you. I don't know how I would feel if members were dumping the guilt trip on me for accepting and magnifying callings. I like Gwen's response. Also, JSB- remember that the Church is separate from the Members. The Church is not a negative entity. By not attending Church you are basically cutting your nose off to spite the non-calling holders/complainers.
  16. My first marriage was my refiners fire. No way would I repeat it. It was bliss for about 5 years, then it was Hades for the next 22. Without the trials and tribulations I went through, I would not be the me I am today. Coming back to activity in the Church at the same time I decided to leave hubby one, is what kept me from becoming a negative, vengeful, malicious shrew of a woman. Realizing that I made it out of marriage from Hades alive and with all of my parts intact made me a more adventurous person. Second marriage is to an active priesthood holder. He has been through 3 marriages from Hades- so he has been through quite the refiners fire. When he stated to me that he had "Danced with the Devil, AND survived, I knew that I too had been there, done that, aint going to repeat those steps!! Hubby Two and I are sealed, we both are active in Church, and we both are serious about nurturing ourselves and each other spiritually. For the first 6 years of our marriage, we were bombarded with his families (youngest brother is baptized, but totally inactive and should be exed) dysfunctions - emotionally draining dramas - negativity. We moved back to my beloved Oregon Coast, and now we get to be bombarded with my families (all but my oldest brother are super active LDS members) dysfunctions - emotionally draining dramas - negativity. Actually, my eldest brother and Hubby have bonded without any help from me. They both have interests in guns. Through that commonality they discovered they enjoy the same brand of humor. Oh, back to the original question: I strive to have the decency, respect, compassion & humor that my parents had in and put into their marriage.
  17. happy, happy birthday happy - happy birthday! ENJOY, enjoy this special day
  18. Yep I saw it. Finally remembered at 1:20 AM to go out on the back porch to take a look. We had a lot of cloud coverage too. Because the moon was bigger and WAY brighter, you could see it through the clouds. What was really NEAT was that you could actually see the layers of clouds. Closer to earth they were moving in one direction and the clouds closer to the moon were moving in the opposite direction. Anatess- my simple explanation for me being effected by the full moon is that the moon effects water (ocean tides, etc.) Our bodies are mostly water, and as a woman I am more in tune to my body. When I was a bartender/cocktail waitress I dreaded the full moon. Drinkers were more volatile on the full moon.
  19. I finally found an electronic journal that has everything I was looking for. It is Personal Historian - Personal Historian - Personal and Family History Writing Software I had tried another one that was free- it was lacking a lot and was not able to back up to a disc or flash drive.
  20. It's been three years- I use oxiclean, powdered all fabric bleach AND detergent together each time I launder garments. Also put the garments through three rinse cycles- I am so super sensitive to soaps that if I forget and only do one/two rinse cycle(s), I get blister rashes where the elastic hits my skin and where my bra holds the fabric tight to my skin. Husband only wears cotton jersey- and no matter how hot the water, how much oxiclean and all fabric powdered bleach I use, stains just do not come out. I have even bought Rit fabric whitener and used 3 boxes to a load using 190 degree hot water! Hubby washed all but one pair of his garments in a load and added liquid bleach, used cold water wash & rinse and I do believe they are now off white for the rest of time! No way am I buying new, these off white garments are still in good condition. When we bought this last bunch, I set aside a pair each for us to wear to the Temple. Once I launder them, I put them back into our Temple garment bag- so we always have nice, nearly new, still snow white garmmies to wear.
  21. Skalenfehl, I am so glad you are active again on this forum, your posts are so spot on and spiritually thought out and way, WAY helpful. What Skalenfehl said.
  22. A=Hala, only endowed members can purchase and wear the garments. B= If you are used to wearing under garments that are long sleeved and go to your ankles, then you may get chilled when you receive your endowment and start wearing garments. They have little cap sleeves and the bottoms end above the knee. IF you are not warm enough in them, you can certainly wear your 'long johns' over them, as well as your bra. C=The church is not concerned about revenue from the sale of garments. President Hinckley lowered the price of them a few years before he passed. Just as he started the 50% off the cost of the Temple whites (dress, slippers, veil, etc.) for first time buyers. The garments do cost more than some civilian knickers- but they last for years- I am still wearing garments I purchased 8 years ago- they are in excellent condition too. I wear DriSilque and love it. Have lived in Oregon (Central Oregon Coast) and in Arizona (half way between Phoenix and Tucson) and this fabric is warm enough in the winter and cool enough in the summer. It also cleans up easily and drys in 10 minutes or less! The only stain that doesn't come out easily is red drinks. I spilled fruit punch G2 all down my front- by the time I got my clothes off, it had soaked through to my garments. The only place where the stain is, is on the elastic of the bottoms, and one tiny spot on the lace at the neck. I rinsed them in cold water in the bathroom- it took many regular wearings and washing's to fade the stain out- but after 3 years, those little dots of stain are still there. Wish that was true for the blouse and slacks I was wearing.
  23. Translation: Yum Yum Yum Yum, yummy, mmmmmm good.
  24. I dream of the day when I replace all the wall to wall carpeting with quality non-carpet flooring. I just can't see myself pet free- I really need to be pet owned! Actually that is Cat owned
  25. Why isn't there is receptionist who is screening calls, sending them directly to your voice mail? While you are busy with face to face client, your phone calls should be going directly to voice mail. Actually your phone should be programmed to go to voice mail when you are with a client, and not even ring. When face to face client leaves - you return your voice mail calls in the order they have been received. Worked for me as CSR for and Insurance Agency. We had a Do Not Disturb button on our phones. When activated, our calls went directly to Voice and never rang to interrupt us.
