Church allows missionaries to call home weekly

From what I understand, apple products are standard. The church apps run best on them. I got an iPad the last half of my mission. -
April 2019 Conference Predictions

A good argument for smaller wards? Perhaps, but not a new argument. there have always been wards with bishops this busy. My ward growing up had probably 50 young men and a young women’s of comparable size. -

Don’t be rediculous, We are trying to have a serious conversation here... -
Other interesting representations of this are found in Enders Game where Ender thinks he is running a simulation and commits genocide without realizing it. And also a short seen in “surrogate” where the soldier is shown sprinting into danger with no concern of death because he wasn’t really there but was just controlling an avatar robot.

There seems (at least to me) to be a preference to the Bible over the Book of Mormon. It’s not a matter of referencing without giving homage to the source, it’s the fact that biblical names are used everywhere and yet only one Book of Mormon name was used (as far as I saw). I don’t think it’s a problem, but it is just super interesting. The early leaders talk about immense and immediate conversions to the Book... but no one seems to be talking about it.

If salt loses its savor, is it really salt? If a saint isn’t good, is he really a saint?

I did some basic and quick word searching on the document and looked up a bunch of names. There are no references to Alma (beyond parenthetical references to the scripture added after the fact), Ammon, Nephi or Zarahemla. There are 300+ references to Lehi. The ones I saw all references his exodus from Jerusalem. There were also hundreds of references of Biblical names

I just find it interesting that you can’t go 5 minutes watching GC without hearing a direct Book of Mormon reference, but you are pressed to find even a few direct references from the church leaders in the 1800s
-
I feel like I’ve asked this before so forgive me if I have. I can’t seem to think of any early church leaders speaking about referencing the Book of Mormon beyond what we see in the introduction to the Book of Mormon.

To me that is more of a matter of “modern revelation trumping old revelation/policy” Maybe I won’t get swayed in it, but my confusion comes from a frustration I have with a lot of people who won’t see prophetic words as divine instruction unless it is “canonized”. To many, the Prophets are nothing more than commentators to the scriptures. Also, you look at the context of everything after the book of Acts and some Book of Mormon chapters like Moroni 10 where the writer who most the time is presumably an apostle or prophet and they are writing a letter to some specific group people or are quickly carving away final thoughts before they die... how is that more authoritative than modern day Prophets giving prepared and pondered over speeches at the pulpit? -

I’m in Vegas... so ya... we are still living the law of Moses. -

I never understood the hype behind “canonizing” things. Does a canonizes scripture have more weight and authority than a general conference talk? -

As much flack as Christopher Eccleston got after being compared to Tennant, I really enjoyed his stuff. He is the one that got me hooked (and NOT ‘Blink’). That episode you mentioned is definitely in my top 10 of fav doctor who episodes. It hits all the heart strings. Creepy, scary, confusing, sad, and heart warming.
-
My favorite episode was “closing time” which guest starred James Corden. Ever since I saw that episode I have been a HUGE fan of James. He is genius and the episode is absolutely hilarious! But don’t watch it first or you can’t appreciate the Doctor. Don’t jump to any episode until you have learned to appreciate any of the doctors (which means just watch it in chronological order).
-
I actually never really liked that episode because of how hyped up it was. And I don’t mean that in a hipster way, but that it is the worst episode to use to introduce yourself and others to Doctor Who. All my whovian friends told me “watch Blink and you will be hooked!” Well I did... and to someone who had never seen Doctor Who it was not a good first impression. I understood the plot alright, but The Doctor is hardly in it and it is one of the most in depth time travel based episode the series has so you don’t appreciate the Doctor’s background roll. It’s a cool story, but does an awful job of introducing the Doctor.

I have heard of three symbolic interpretations for the story of the Good Samaritan. 1) The classic everyone is your neighbor 2) Christ is the Samaritan and we are the injured man. He is in the land where everyone hates him, he still stops to take care of them despite the hate. He heals us and pays our debt (Samaritan paying the inn keeper to take care of the wounds of the injured man) and promises to come again and pay any remaining debt (second coming and in the parable the Samaritan promises to return) 3) The temple worker and the Jewish priest that ignored the injured man were actually doing right. Spiritual work is more important than saving one man from a physical death.

Probably a little. The missionary handbook says “You may telephone your parents on Christmas and one other time during the year (usually Mother’s Day), according to guidelines from your mission president. Take care that these calls do not ... create a financial problem for your family.” -
I discovered Dr Who in 2012 and was a die hard fan until June 2014 when so left on my mission. Loved all of them (or at least the newer generation) up to and including Matt Smith and saw every episode probably 3-5 times. Got home from my mission in 2016 and lost interest. So for about 2 years I was a die hard fan. Now not so much

I’ll shout you straight... I was catching up with the conversation and when I read your comment I thought you were someone else responding to Rob, who was responding to someone else. go ahead and discount my entire comment 😛

You seem to be confusing the Rob with Jesus Christ. Him not knowing the answer has nothing to do with it being true or false. Here is a quote from Joseph Smith that May aid in your question “When you climb up a ladder, you must begin at the bottom, and ascend step by step, until you arrive at the top; and so it is with the principles of the gospel—you must begin with the first, and go on until you learn all the principles of exaltation. But it will be a great while after you have passed through the veil [died] before you will have learned them. It is not all to be comprehended in this world; it will be a great work to learn our salvation and exaltation even beyond the grave” It appears exaltation doesn’t come immediately after death or even judgement. It is something that we will continue to learn. So both us and children who die early will still be working for exaltation after this life.

Not meaning to be rude to your brother, but this is a pretty petty issue. It’s like complaining that one ward has the bishop sit to the right of the podium and another they sit to the left. Why does this but him so much?

My advice is to stop caring about so much stuff my approach is: ”I have access to these streaming service, let’s wander around until I find something I like.” This is how I found Blackish, Brooklyn 99, Rookie, Good Doctor, Good Place, Series it Unfortunate Events, Vikings, and of course my only true love iZombie.
