Changing skin color
Fether replied to GaleG's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I personally agree with @Carborendum. I’m also not opposed to the idea that God literally changed their skin rather than the intermarrying having changed their skin. The Book of Mormon does not talk specifically of indigenous people, but there is subtle evidence* of it in the Book of Mormon as well as pretty clear archeological finds that pretty much prove it... also logically it would be very difficult to assert that The Nephites, Jaredites and Mulekites were the first and only inhabitants of the new world. As far as the color and where in america... there could be various plausible answers. *some example of subtle evidence: - There were“lamanitish” servants (Alma 17:26) rather than a lamanite servant - Sherem “had a perfect knowledge of the language of the people” (Jacob 7:1,4). Why would it point out his knowledge of the language of the people if there were only one people? - In the Book of Omni we read the the Mulekite language (originally the same as the Nephite) has become corrupt (Omni 1:17) over about 200 years. How could a language become corrupt if there were no other languages to sway it? this may not be hard evidence, but it certainly doesn’t ever bar the possibility of there being indigenous people. -
In our new ward, we were put into primary right away making it difficult for us to naturally meet others and build relationships. So instead we invited people over. For about 2 months we had couples over at our apartment for board games every weekend. Some of our closest friends now are people we invited over. The fix to this is to simply invite others to your home. I recognize that for some this is difficult, but it is that or keep being lonely in hopes someone will notice.

I have a good friend in high school who was actively homosexual. Long story short he got baptized and served a faithful mission. At one point he told me that he felt that he could see himself being straight
-
But in the spirit of pure non-specific speculation, I can see the following changes - An additional change in ministering - Changes in seminary/institute - Additional missionary changes - animal sacrifice - Additional clarification on the Word or Wisdom - introduction of worldwide church run education system for k-12
-
Clearly they are going to ramp up the Word of Wisdom by including 8 hours of sleep and daily vitamins to the other needs of avoiding drugs and alcohol

Ministering, the Lord vision vs. our own
Fether replied to Rob Osborn's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I’ve always said that any failure in the home teaching/ministering is a failing in the individual and not the organization. I still believe this. Any lack of genuinity(?) is on the one not putting forth the genuinity(?). Ether from a lack of care or from struggling to relate (this being more likely in my opinion). But I do agree that ministering is done best when the two parties already know each other and are friends. I have 3 “families”. One is a close friend of mine who I play basketball with every week, another is an inactive member that I enjoy going over to visit, and the 3rd is a family older than mine that enjoys babysitting my son. Because I know these people so well there is not much difficulty in me failing to fulfill my calling. I think assignments are great, it prevents anyone from being forgotten (at least in theory). Until we all become perfect saints, I would be sad to see assignments go, mostly because I imagine only a handful of members in my ward would reach out to the many innactive... but perhaps that is a better situation than just assuming those assigned to the inactive are fulfilling their calling. -

I love taking notes on all aspects of my life. But what I found myself doing was having too many journals for different things. - History (standard journal) - scripture study journal - Self Help (notes from podcasts and books) - Work notes It became somewhat tedious keeping tracks of all these notes. I decided to only have two. (1) a standard journal where I put a record of my day and an overview of lessons or things I learned and (2) a journal where I record all my notes (scripture, self help, and work). I love this a lot more

I’m a huge believer in using notes. I was once someone who believed that I studied better without a note book and had a few arguments for why I never studied with a note book, a lot of the time it revolves around the claim “we all learn different!”. But I tried it out on my mission and never have gone back. Now I get anxious when I study without a notebook because I know I’m missing out on a ton of gems.

Still the greatest comedy of the era, close second was “where the red fern grows”

I did feel a little joy and burning in the bosom when I watched Thanos shove Gamora off the cliff.

I just saw bumblebee too. I have never been a fan of Transformers movies, but this one was alright. I thought the intro was amazing and the ending was alright...but everything in the middle was just dumb. There was no point to it but to make his story 2 hours long. I also recently saw Venom and Antman and the Wasp. I loved them both.

So wait... you wait till 8pm to open presents... but open stocking before Christmas??? ... no wonder the church needed restoring...
-
It’s Christmas man. I was up at 4:30 and had to wait till 6:00AM for my 8 month old and wife to wake up
-
It was 10:30 and you hadn’t opened gifts!?!?

I don’t care what belief you have on diety. If you know someone is cheating on their spouse, you should tell the other spouse.

What we know is that “[fell] from his exaltation” (D&C 132:39). Does that mean he is a son of perdition? Maybe. But we do not know such a thing. Not sure if you were suggesting that or not, just making sure we were clear on this. -
This brilliant argument summarizes why I don't believe people are born with any mental, physical, or emotional deficiencies. If you think they are, then you are wrong and a hater. I can't wait for your type to hurry and die off. Glad we are all on the same page! I have a friend who was “diagnosed” with ADHD and had severe anger issues. I also worked with a guy in a group home who claimed to have schizophrenic attacks. Oh how I laughed in both their faces and told them to stop making things up. God loves us, he would give us these disorders! Right @Tyme!?!?

I have had this thought too. I know they have some ambitious plans to start their own network, to pull from the actors they met while on BYUtv to make online series. Perhaps they also thought they could make more money running there own gig on the YouTube scene?

Great point. I do have a worry that Saints, homo and heterosexual will naturally start looking to him as an example of how a homosexual saint ought to live. There have been so many times that our “poster boy” has failed us.
