  1. This site has everything! Thanks!
  2. Who is the leading contender aside from Romney?
  3. i suggest instituting small groups. The ward activities are great, but there are a lot people that get missed/lost in the cracks.
  4. I waited and waited, but it never got interesting.
  5. CAMPAIGNER PERSONALITY (ENFP, -A/-T)
  6. The NYT totally misses the point that church government comes from God, it is not "Mr. Monson's" personal choice to dictate the doctrine we follow. The tween and follow up article are clear out right attacks on any God loving/following people. imo...
  7. The violence in the BOM, if it can be deemed as such, is G compared to the every day violence that exists in our current existence. Because of where this world is heading, I really think there is some benefit to understanding it. Mind you, I don't believe we need to jump in it like it's a pile of leaves, but there is a purpose for it. How do you deal with violence in the media?
  8. I thank you for your answers and the links. I will be going over those soon. I did want to add that the guy did not say it was "all" text only "sacred" texts. My feeling is that still doesn't hold water based on the skimming I have done on the first link.
  9. In a lot of talks "um" and "like" are very popular sounds before each word. I know I did in a lot of my talks!!
  10. That is awesome!!
  11. Hello there, I am paging all grammar police/LDS doctrine individuals. I was recently watching a video and the man was explaining how the first verse of the KJV is grammatically incorrect. I haven't done much personal research yet so I am starting here. Basically his stance is that it is wrong because the sentence starts with a "Ba" instead of "A" or Aleph and that all Hebrew sentences start with the A/Aleph. Any thoughts on this or references I can be directed to would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  12. @clbent04 I completely understand how you are feeling about the mentality of this world. If you step back and look, it appears to be a mindless obstacle course of how can one get more, or it's little things like the lack of concern people seem to have for our planet, to wasting food products, to just being flat out rude in public. Not to mention human suffering through oppression, starvation and pure immorality. When I look through those goggles too long I tend to become complacent in life and depressed beyond measure. I have to come back to the reality and soak up the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. No matter what has done or what will be done (only going to get worse) the sins, pains and agonies of this life are already purchased and paid for. After that I am able to breath and just let it go to God who knows all things and that I should try not to contemplate that which is out of my control. I also thought about the early church while reading over the posts in this thread. There was a time that the church wanted to live the "higher law," but were unable to leading to the law of tithing. As far as I remember there will be a day when the church will be called to live that higher law and an amazing thing it will be.
  13. Speaking from experience, it is best to stay in the shallow end of the doctrine pool and keep a relationship where the influence of the Holy Spirit can be felt. Focus on the similarities between the faiths, also be sure to not only invite him/her to LDS functions but, be willing to attend their services as well. I agree with Grunt 100%, "be yourself." Something you may try if you haven't already is to prepare your actions/words through prayer and scripture study so you are led by the Spirit. Regardless of how difficult we may think it is for someone to grasp all the quirky aspects of our religion, it is the Spirit that converts the heart.
  14. It sure seems like our society is going toward that avenue. "I was born that way." ...however, that is a different topic, but I know what you mean. When 50 shades came out, I really had some internal discussion about "gray" and came to the conclusion there isn't any. I mean when reading the scriptures, it either lifts up the name of Jesus or it does not. So instead of good/bad, I look at it from that aspect.
  15. That makes sense. I suppose as long as any form of contention is non-existent and the parties involved benefit in some way; win-win. Does what violates the Word-of-Wisdom for one person apply to another? Is that the debate? I think that is a good example and shows where one's heart is when being discreet.

    Greetings @Sunday21
  17. I really like the way explained this. It seemed like it was right there, but was just out of my grasp. Very much appreciated. How do you think this relates to modern day. Does it relate to all denominations or only on one?
  18. It is quite all right, in my opinion, to think the LDS church is weird because it is. Essentially, that is one way to know the true church from others. We are directed to be "set apart" or be different from those around us so embrace the weird. Best wishes for you on your journey.
  19. Do you have to set those configs on each page, or do the settings replicate?
  20. Romans chapter 14 offers up some very interesting guidelines on how we should discuss the Word with our peers. However, at the same time a lot of it is confusing where it talks about meat in v. 15 and eating in v. 23. Does anyone have any insight or wisdom they would like to pass along?! Thanks!
  21. It is really hard to explain and when presented an opportunity in a non-LDS bible study, I did not chime in.
