  1. I’m also remembering that the last rebellion here was put down here relatively easily. The south got annihilated. So, if Civil War 2.0 breaks out, why won’t the same thing happen?
  2. Great. You are the expert here, not me. I have no military experience at all. Never claimed otherwise. I still remain extremely skeptical that the an armed insurrection would do anything substantial against the US government. I think I hit the nail on the head when I said this is the middle aged, out of shape guy trying to take on Mike Tyson. Again though, I hope it never ever gets there.
  3. I could probably name all state capitals without a map or Google. very cool question.
  4. Just to be clear, like I said before I’m 100% in favor of you owning an arsenal. I’m staunchly opposed to new gun control. But this belief that we could take down the US military reminds me of the out of shape middle aged guy who hasn’t left his couch since 2007 but thinks he could beat up Mike Tyson because “I just go red and black out bro.”
  5. Actually, if you’ve studied military history, or history at all, you’ll know that the side with the best technology and resources usually wins the war. Are there exceptions? You bet. But yes, you’d rather have drones, nukes and stealth bomber jets than even the best civilian hardware. That’s why the militia run by the guy who also owns Jimmy’s Chicken Shack stands no chance against a professional army like the US Army. This isn’t Vietnam. Warfare has changed dramatically in the 50+ years since that war. The only chance “the people” would have against the US Armed Forces would be if they (Military) had mass, widespread mutinies. And I’m not optimistic. Soldiers are programmed to obey-I have little confidence they wouldn’t open fire on civilians if given the order. Look, I pray I’m wrong here. I’m just not naive to the technology of the Army. Your AR-15 will do absolutely nothing if they drop the bomb on Dallas.
  6. @mikbone our friendly boomer lawyer @Just_A_Guy made some great points. I recommend not betting the house on the authenticity of the pic!
  7. I can tell. It’s cool to see my friend.
  8. So in your view, this picture is accurate?
  9. That’s my sole “issue” with this pic. It just doesn't look like him to me, judging on how I’ve seen him portrayed in other paintings . In the end though, I’m certainly no expert. If it’s him, very cool
  10. This really is an amazing find. Hope it’s authentic
  11. We agree in part, though I think the progressives out there aren’t as evil as Christians make them out to be. Also, this goes back to what we said about fishbowls. If you don’t know any LDS, then it’s easier to paint them as crazy or worse. If you don’t know any progressives, same thing.
  12. Yes, agree fully. When you swim in one fishbowl only you begin to delude yourself. Nope. With the exception of the professional atheists like Dawkins and Mahr, the average atheist in America would protest in the streets if the government banned religion. The awful truth is that apathy is far more destructive to religious growth than the atheist who screams in rage at God. A growing amount of people simply don’t care about religion.
  13. More context: gay marriage and abortion are vastly different issues. The right won a victory on abortion recently, but gay marriage is a totally different fight. @NeuroTypical-this is very fascinating, but I’m still terrified that religious belief is in a free fall. I know I’ve said it before and I apologize, but the Southern Baptists down here put cotton in their ears, blamed a liberal conspiracy, the media, etc, and are just now waking up to the reality that their churches are in a death spiral. The Catholics up north are learning this too. Blame “the gays”, blame “the left” blame whatever you want, but the pews are still empty. We can ignore reality, but reality doesn’t ignore us.
  14. Very true. Most wards have a bunch of people who genuinely want to help you. You don’t need to be someone’s home teacher in order to just be their friend.
  15. You might be right. Sure, those people absolutely exist in the church. It’s more their problem the ours though. That kind of attitude you are describing is more self destructive than anything else. The other thing is that those you describe often think they have far more power and influence then they think they do. But I truly, truly believe that the overwhelming majority of people in the church are not like the ones you are describing.
  16. Not an argument, but what can the church repent from? Many LDS already struggle with being way too hard on themselves. 80% of LDS would give you the shirt off their back if you were in need. Most are polite, decent, neighborly. What do they need to repent for?
  17. Update: I’m donating to a first responder charity if Utah wins, he’s donating to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids foundation if the Gators win.
  18. No worries. If we agreed on everything none of us would be here. Also, in the big picture like I mentioned I’m with second amendment advocates on virtually everything else.
  19. I actually agree with that statement 100%, but to me it’s irrelevant. I have the right to own a gun for self defense, hunting….basically whatever reason I want to.
  20. I have better hair too.
  21. Actually, on the contrary, you are one of the few people who has read more than I have about the Titanic. I hate admitting this due to my massive and fragile ego, but you know way, way way more about her than I ever will.
  22. It’s an interesting issue. Those who want to take the guns also want to defund the police. So I don’t know who will take the guns. And, on the flip side, those who scream “Molon Labe” also have “Back the Blue” bumper stickers. So when the police go door to door to confiscate guns….these guys will be very confused.
  23. Not sure about that. The coal fire had little to do with it sinking, and it wasn’t racing to New York. https://www.quora.com/Why-was-it-such-a-big-deal-that-Titanic-make-it-to-NYC-fast-in-record-time-when-the-ship-was-already-famous-and-making-headlines-as-the-largest-and-most-luxurious-ship-of-that-time-Why-not-worry-about-arriving?top_ans=238082441
  24. It’s sad-but it’s also horrifying.
