At the Adult Session of Stake Conference last night, the first part we could hear what sounded like someone talking loudly in the back (we were in the last row of the chapel, noise was coming from the cultural hall which had about 25 rows of chairs set up) people started looking around, the Spirit was getting ruined. After a bit of this I turned around to see a couple of members trying to get this guy out of there. A drunk had came in to harass some family member (sounded like it was a parent, but really couldn't tell), thing got heated, our newly called Bishop and 4 other (large) male members of our Ward including an ex-policeman jumped up and escorted the guy outside (somewhat physically as he wasn't going anywhere on his own) the police had already been called and arrived about this time. The ex-cop member explained what was going on and the cops hauled the drunk off. The choir had a musical number, the Stake President gave his talk and we closed the meeting. Never a dull moment at the adult session of Stake Conference. Sad though how one drunk can drive the Spirit away.

Minimum wage was designed for entry level positions NOT for someone to support a family on. Every time minimum wage has gone up prices go up also. Min wage was $1.60 in 1972, McD's hamburgers were 17 cents, gas was 17.9 cents a gallon*, Campbell's soup was 4 cans for $1, smokes were 25 cents a pack. Average new car was $3520 Compare minimum wage and prices today. * first time filling tank on my own car, I went to a cut rate station so I wouldn't have to pay 25.9 cents a gal at a full service station. Cut rate means they still pumped it for you but didn't check your oil, wash your windows or check your tire pressure and add air if needed which full service stations did

The international jury is still out on who actually carried out the attack. We do not have to be the worlds policemen. So we're going to kill how many people by bombing them? Dead is dead, whether its by chemical attack or bleeding out from shrapnel from a cruise missile attack, both are horrible ways to die. NO to bombing Syria or any other country that is not attacking us on our own soil!

My two cents on the subject. Having a baby at 55 means you'll be 73 when the kid graduates from high school -- sorry that's too old. Assuming you retire at full retirement age (67 currently in the U.S.) the kid would be 12 when you retire. My parents were in their late 50's (same age I am now) when I was in high school and that was too old. I would be against it, but ymmv

Correct I don't think you can come back from murder (actual murder not manslaughter or accidental death) if you have made and understand Covenants, but will have to leave final judgement to God.

They all had fonts and I participated in baptisms in most of the buildings at one time or another. All the fonts had doors into the restrooms except one. If you count the narrow walkway to the restrooms I guess you could make the claim it had a tiled area. Not sure how you'd do anything but walk from the font to the restroom there however.

Do you believe every word of the scriptures?
mnn727 replied to tovarisch's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I don't believe any scripture is 100% historical and accurate. I do however believe you can learn lessons on how to become more Christ-like from any scripture. -
After not having a car payment for almost 15 years, my wife's car up and dies last spring, so now we once again have a car payment - I HATE IT! If your current car is working ok and you're just tired of it.....too bad. Put the money you'd spend on a car payment in the bank each month and have more of a down payment when you do need one. --- proud owner of a paid off 2001 F150 and not so proud owner of a payment laden 2012 Camry

I've been a member of 5 wards in 3 states plus add to that another 4 Stake Centers to that and never saw any that had either a tiled area or showers and only one (the newest Stake Center) had decent sized restrooms, the rest of the buildings it appeared the restrooms were an after thought. I won't even use the restrooms at the current building, that's how small and dingy they are , luckily I only live a couple blocks from the building.

Talk with the Bishop or Stake President. They can assist.

Should I go talk to the bishop!? I'm struggling
mnn727 replied to Beaubracken's topic in Advice Board
The Bishop is not there to punish, he is there to assist you with the repentance process. Having said that, I do realize that some Bishops are easier to talk to than others. I'm glad you are already taking care of the anxiety issues I do wish you well.- 8 replies

If you have to ask if you should see the Bishop -- you should. I would also recommend a mental health professional.- 8 replies

"Bishop, the doctor has me on a new medication that a possible side effect is a personality change I don't anticipate any problems however I just wanted to make you aware due to my current calling." This lets him know without telling him everything and you shouldn't become a WC project. If he questions what it is, say "that's personal"

The Stake President didn't do you or your husband any favors last time, hopefully he will not repeat the same mistake twice D&C 121 7-8 Specifically given to Joseph Smith while in Liberty Jail but is true in for all people in a bad spot.

New Jersey court sets precedent for distracted driving texts

So once again we transfer responsibility away from the person causing the problem. <<Shakes head>> PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY people! Is no one accountable for their actions anymore? -
Intellectual Compatibility in Marriage
mnn727 replied to guenzo's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
Obviously you see it as being important, however I think you will need to seek an outside source for your intellectual comparability. I would suggest looking in your Priesthood Quorums, especially the HP Group - ours is just really deep - no one falls asleep during that class. Also online is a good source. I don't see it as that important to me although my wife and I sound a lot like you and your wife. My wife refers to me as 'knowledge' and to her as 'Spirit' and we get along just fine. I get my intellectual challenge in HP Group classes and online and she teaches Primary, it works great for us. Please stop trying to fit your wife into your mold, neither of you will be happy, understand that differences are good, they give spice to life, trust me; people like your wife are wonderful, strong in the gospel who know and follow the basics. You're a lucky man and don't even realize it. Its time to change your expectations or you'll both be miserable -

So I did a word count this afternoon during Sacrament meeting (we meet at 1PM) Just during Sacrament, NOT including prayers and songs, the following were said 43 times: Savior, Lord, Jesus and/or Christ, God, Holy Spirit, Spirit, He/Him where it applied to the Savior -- 43 times! When you add hymn's into it you add another 33 times for a total of 76 times members of the Godhead were mentioned JUST during Sacrament meeting. I'm really not sure what Church some of you go to but He sure is preached in mine. I challenge any of you that say we don't bring up Christ enough to do a word count yourself next Sunday.
-
You know, I bought into this saying myself for a while, then I started counting how many times Christ was mentioned on a Sunday (not including prayers) and was pleasantly surprised. I urge you to do the same, keep a running count some Sunday yourself. We hear what we want to hear and we buy into what we want to buy into. Just because we don't have a paid professional minister, that doesn't mean we don't: "talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."

Sacrament more then Once in Different wards?

So many comment possible -
How do you meet this one? 1. Be worthy, baptized members of the Church. But you are correct - talk with your Bishop, just don't be surprised when he tells you that you must wait.

This is it - exactly

Every time? Every fat person? Stereotyping doesn't help, you won't find any of that in my cart and I've never been on food stamps.
