Probably because they were not living the Law of Chastity and no doubt had been disfellowshipped or excommunicated if they had been members while making the baby.

1st calling and a request
mnn727 replied to dahlia's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Its the fellowship we want also -- our missionaries never go hungry, there's way more people willing to feed them than there are nights in a year. A pretty good idea, will do that, but I still stand by " if you can feed the missionaries on a weeknight, please do so and leave the missionaries free on weekends for people like us. " -
1st calling and a request
mnn727 replied to dahlia's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Most wards pass around the list in Sunday School or Relief Society and then if no one signs up for a day the person that is handling it then calls people to ask. I agree there are many people who are teaching at the time it is being passed around so be sure to catch those people every now and then Now a pet peeve about the missionary calendar: Unfortunatly since both my wife and I work (we're older with no kids at home) and don't get home until after 6:30 at the earliest, we can only feed the missionaries on weekends. Yet weekends are always taken way in advance, thus we almost never are able to feed the missionaries. Come on people; if you can feed the missionaries on a weeknight, please do so and leave the missionaries free on weekends for people like us. -
Addressing each other as brother and sister
mnn727 replied to JThimm88's topic in General Discussion
Close but not quite, a Nun is a Sister, however a leader of a group of Nuns is a Mother. -
Out Scout leader was just released after 14 years in the position, his assistant (who had been the assistant Scout leader for 7 years) was called to take over.Takes a special breed to be a scout leader, but they should be in the position for many many years. Why are yours being released so quickly? Sounds like your Bishop was never a Boy Scout himself.

The Book of Enoch is not a part of the Book of Mormon, although Enoch is mentioned in our Scriptures I Covenanted with God that I would follow His Word of Wisdom part of my Covenant is to drink no tea or coffee -- its an obediance thing. Gods part of the same Covenant is to give us health, thats an in general Covenant and not a specific - we still have to do our part; we can't lay around eating chocolates and chips and expect to be able to run a marathon. I follow the Word of Wisdom because I Covenanted to. I'll leave the death question to someone else as it's time for dinner -- Welcome though Here is a link that may interest you, it takes you to our Articles of Faith which are statements of our beliefs Articles of Faith 1

Gee, so he talks on 1 out of 100 shows, 200 shows, 500 shows? about correct things -- even a broken clock is correct twice a day. Sorry, but IMHO his political arguments are shallow (like most talking heads on both sides) and his hucksterism is legend. The fact that he throws in some (mainly protestant) values occasionally does not give him redeaming social value or make me think he is an average representation of Mormons.

'Pretty bad' does not adequatly describe its horridness compared to the book.

That would be quite an undertaking, probably on the scale of The Lord of the Rings. Excellant books though.

My only problem with polygamy is the way some offshoots run it - the FLDS for one, with compounds, under age marriages, etc. Say what you want about Big Love -- In general I like the way they (usually) handle their marriage.

Jurasic Park the movie was nothing like the book. I absolutly hated the movie the first time I saw it. I have gone back and rewatched it and can now enjoy it for itself, but it has very little in common with what is in the book other than dinosaurs running wild.

Glenn Beck in NO way represents my beliefs of any kind. IMHO he's another talking head, good for stirring up the masses with platitudes like so many other on both sides of the political spectrum but short on actual substance that would actually fix things. You mileage may vary.

Oh, please! Look; I won't tell you that you must eat meat, but don't you tell me I can't.Thw WoW was not even given as a commandment when given. God gave us guidelines and did not give us exacts in this, he also gave us brains-- its about living the commandments as you see them.

If you are baptized...
mnn727 replied to Lilac's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I am the Ward Executice Secretary-- the guy who gives out speaking assignments and the answer is plenty of people say no, some are even on an "I will never speak" list. Makes it harder for me, but hey, if it causes you that much anxiety - then just say no, my only wish is that you tell them right away so they can look for other people rather than (like some people do)avoiding our phone calls please. Thats the worst thing, I'd much rather get a quick no so I can find someone else than wait and wait for a phone call back and finally get a no after calling someone 4 or 5 times. -

How can people believe in this version of the trinity:
mnn727 replied to LDSChristian's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
You mean like this? from THE TESTIMONY OF THREE WITNESSES -
Make him prove that statement.Hint: 'rending the veil' does not mean they were done away with. Yes, our bodies are temples, but not the only Temple. Lots of things the Bible doesn't mention, like: the trinity, election, pre-destination, popes, once saved always saved, trans-substantiation, etc that many Christians believe in. We have firther revelation, just like the Bible claims we would. Besides, it was Christ Himself who commanded Mormons to build Temples.

Can you show any physical evidence that Christ was in the Middle East? Josephus was at most 2 or 3 years old when Christ would have been crucified according to scholars, so he's not credible.

Pornography - Who is it a sin against?
mnn727 replied to quickquestion's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Its a sin against yourself and you spouse. First you are cheating on your spouse by giving what is his/hers to porn Second you are setting yourself up to be unsatisfied with your spose (or future spouse) because they are not 'perfect' like the images you saw (which are ususally younger people, air-brushed or photoshopped and normally have spent a long time applying makeup, etc) Compare your wife who has has 2 or 3 kids and is in her mid 30's to that 19 year old body you are lusting for on the internet porn site. Are you interested in the body or in the person? Compare your 30 or 40 year old body (if male) against that 20 year old guy with his clothes off -- do you look like that? You are setting yourself up to sin against yourself and your spouse if you view porn, because you'll not be satisfied with their real body when you can go online and see all the 'hotties' there, at best you'll be fantasizing about teh hotties and thus not be "two becoming as one" when you make love and at worst (and this happens) you'll stop wanting to make love to your spouse because they will no longer excite you. That's Real -
The new Church Handbook of Instruction says that only the LDS version of the KJV are to be used (as much as I hate the KJV personally - best to use it in classes) You can always do as Elder Holland does by saying "Another version renders it as......." if you want to clairify something.

Once you put something on the internet - its forever. I work with computer security professionally and know what bad people can do with a little info.I am very security conscience -- which also means no; facebook, myspace, linkedin or twitter. Let me give you a true story, someone at the company I work at put on her facebook account all about the family vacation they were taking figuring that since her setings were for freinds and friend of friends viewing only it would be no problem - their home was burglarized while they were gone - extensivly , lost not only TV's. computers but a lot of family heirlooms ans jewelry.

Frankly I hope Church members don't get too riled up and give it free publicity. I remember how Christians got riled up over the movie The Last Temptation of Christ, millions went to see it just because of the controvesy. It would have died after a few days in the theaters except for all the protests that kept people going to see what it was all about - it really was a terrible movie. As far as this: Ignore it, it'll go away. Nothing will prevent the work of God from going forth.
